About this ebook

Wrestling with Destiny is an inspirational autobiography. A short story with poems to inspire and encourage others. This story chronicles heroin addiction and recovery from it. Destiny is not only a form of fate but a play on words describing my lover. We spent three years together living out this tragically beautiful tale. Included in this publication are a collection of poems from 1986-2021. I believe this will give insight as to why I was predisposed to falling prey to this addiction. The poems are eclectic and cover all ranges of deep emotions and are experiential in nature. Enjoy the journey!

    Prologue

Laying in the bed we rarely left

    Forevermore is what we said

We took a blood-oath; a sort of theft

A precognition swirling in my head

Lacking luster too elusive to touch

I clutch, to her communist take-over laws

    Perfectly beautiful cover-up and flaws

    Even so, portentously addictive

I revolt, freedom from the predictive vomit in my mouth

Absconding (no longer all-in); I evacuate

Falling I sojourn solemnly through a cryptic speck of light within

    Chapter 1

    Wrestling with Destiny

    1994

Today, I want nothing to eat

I’ve been beaten and driven to defeat

With effort I hold on to hope

While still unraveling, she cuts the rope

All I wish is purity in us

Instead, she struggles with me throwing looks of disgust

Loving arms are the shelter I seek

I’m slipping through fingers that have fallen asleep

Where is the strength in togetherness?

As it curdles in my mouth bitterness

She says she is sorry and walks out the door

Mingling with thieves, vagabonds and whores

Two hours pass and she is nowhere to be found

Cracks in the sidewalk permeate the ground

    Wrestling with Destiny

How did I end up here? I live in a residential hotel, The Sands. Wyatt Earp, the cowboy, was said to frequent this
