About this ebook

Jack Frost, a Jack Russell made completely of ice, feels it’s his life’s purpose to find homes for lost and abandoned animals. Finished homing all the animals before Christmas, Jack has decided to go to Prince Edward Island in Canada for the Jack Frost Festival. And, wherever Jack goes, adventure surely follows.

This trip is no different as Jack learns how thrilling it is to live aboard a ship in the middle of winter. From finding a message in a bottle that turns out to be an SOS, to exploring a lighthouse and making a few unlikely friends, Jack has a lot of stories to tell when he returns home from his adventure in the Maritimes.

While sharing Jacks’ escapades, this book for middle readers also communicates the importance of acceptance and love while uniting lonely animals with people who love them.

    Chapter 1

J ack was running so fast the northern lights couldn’t keep up with

him. His heart was pounding, and he was filled with excitement. It was only two days to the Jack Frost Festival in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, and Jack couldn’t wait. Finished early this year with his work of finding strays homes before Christmas, Jack had decided to take some time to himself and go to this festival in his honor. He wondered what kind of adventure he might have on this frozen island paradise because adventure happened anywhere Jack Frost went.

Jack landed near Charlottetown’s harbor, Peak’s Quay, and made his way up through the quiet streets. Passing by shop fronts, Jack was suddenly stopped in his tracks by the mournful cry of an electric guitar coming from a nearby coffee shop. Jack had to flinch back because of the pure power coming from the instrument. The small dog looked and saw a cat sitting by the café doors. He wondered how the feline could handle the high-pitched squeal coming from the steel strings of the guitar. Jack decided to say hello, so he wandered over to the cat, being careful to avoid the wave of heat coming from the fire inside the small room.

Jack yipped a hello to the cat, who raised her hair a little in response before looking around. When she spotted Jack, the blue-gray cat unfolded herself gracefully and walked over to the ice dog.

Jack Frost, you’re a long way from home, the cat purred. Her Norwegian accent was impossible to miss.

Jack was not sure if he should be offended by her silky tone, so he wagged the tip of his tail. I could say the same about you.

The cat looked surprised and then gave a deep, throaty purr. You noticed my accent?

I wouldn’t be a very good Jack Frost if I missed an accent that thick, Jack said with a smirk.

A very good Jack Frost? You mean there are more than one?

    It’s a long story.

The cat stared at him with stormy blue eyes. It sounds like the sort of yarn that would be worth a listen.

Her wordplay made Jack wag his tail. At that moment, the boy who had been playing the
