This book will help you see the problem, and precisely how the evangelicals had conflicted their faith with politics and at the same time through the wisdom of the scripture offer a workable solution whereas we all can be in one accord endeavoring to move this country forward, and by God’s grace as a result of us coming together as a nation, or as a united people, we can be a good model for the rest of the world to follow and will in turn be a better place for all of us.

    PROLOGUE

    My dear reader friends,

    My name is Pierre Fenelon, the author of this wonderful book that you are about to read. My coming to you through these few lines is in part to put in perspective the effort behind writing this book. Also, overall is to pour out my heart to you concerning the problems we encountered in this country in the last few years during the Trump’s administration, and most importantly concerning the attitude of the evangelicals and their support toward that administration.

    I tend to agree wholeheartedly with a statement the then former Vice-President, and now the President of the United States Joe Biden made saying: We are in the battle for the soul of this country. Frankly, I am not sure the whole reason behind this powerful statement that he made, simply because I do not know him personally, nevertheless I still agree with him for saying it.

    When I look at the magnitude of our problems through the lenses of the sacred word, the scriptures, I say we are really in trouble. The stake is too high for us to fail, because if we do, we may never recover from it. And so, the Vice-President then maybe from his political standpoint has realized, because of the poor job that the Trump administration was doing in perspective of the Corona virus Pandemic, the President, his job performance as the commander in chief, also his approval ratings when it came to the economy, when it came to issues such as: race, religion, inequality, police brutality in America, also other important issues when it came to the President’s fitness for the office, his temperament, his intellect concerning the global economy, the understanding of the world’s history, his influence in it as the leader of the free world, his vision strategically to move the country forward, might have been all the tangible proofs, and all the reasons he needed to make such a statement.

    However, despite all the flagrant lies and mostly the obvious incompetence of a man to assume the leadership of the greatest nation on earth, Donald J. Trump the President of the United States, those of the evangelical communities have come anyway to embrace a reality that he created and was obviously detrimental for the Christian faith in America. I was in awe how they allowed such a man to dismantle the very fabric of our Christian faith, one that took us centuries to build, in less than three and ½ years just to have a piece of the political pie. Shame on you evangelicals!

    As of right now, many of the evangelical leaders repent from their miscalculation of electing a false prophet as President, realizing that their votes have caused the gospel and the preaching of the cross to be ridiculed in the last three years or so in America, and have also decided to abandon Trump’s ship, and to return to their calling of serving the Lord faithfully instead of having politics to do the work for them.

    My dear reader friends, to be truthful I am not interested in politics at all. As you will be able to see when you read this book, you will come also to discover that I have a very different understanding of what politics is all about. I do believe sincerely that politics is the cause of all the problems of the world, particularly when it comes to the principles of love, wealth, prosperity, race, and religion. Politics brings division among us when it comes to these issues everywhere. My effort to write this book is to avoid talking about politics as if we do not want to normalize it in the same breath as what water is to our thirst, or what food is to our hunger. I do believe however, here in America that it is every citizen civic duty to do the right thing for this country in spite of politics that is out there driven by these two political Parties, the Democrats, and the Republicans.

    This might come as a shock to tell you that I neither support the Republicans nor the Democrats because of their politics. I am not a Republican because frankly, the Republicans do not get anything done. They are simply very good at making noise around issues that really affect the life of every American, but do not truly care about the way their policies affect people, especially people of color, and mostly the immigrants.

    However, when it comes to the Democrats, they are not shy about what they stand for and they always make sure to deliver on their promises through the legislations they put forth. One of the problems I do have with the Democrats is that they can be too far liberal in their agendas, and yet they are crystal clear about that, which makes them very dangerous, because they do not care really whether their agendas they put forth are evil or not.

    The Republicans unlike the Democrats, their enthusiasm is awesomely great about any issue they are advocating, whether in the senate floor, in the house of the representatives, or even in the white house. For examples: The Republicans would campaign on many moral issues such as: abortion, homosexuality, sex trafficking, race, inequality, same sex marriages, issues on police brutality, women’s pay gap, and many more other social issues. The Republicans have never passed any legislations pertain to these issues just mentioned, where politically we can attest that they are in par with their agendas they pretend pushing legislatively.

    So, you can see that politics is the problem here, because everyone is pushing for his or her political Party’s agendas, which sometimes makes the issue more problematic than to solve it. Granted, everyone has the right to choose which political Party to be affiliated with. As for me, I do not believe that all our problems can be solved through the legislative process. It is true that there are issues legislatively something can be done. However, because I am a Christian I pride myself to believe that there is a higher power than the authority of the government, and that higher power was the one that created everything in whom I put my trust, and to follow His commands in regard to what pertain to my life based on what is right and what is wrong.

    Make no mistake my friends, when God instituted the government on the earth, it was solely an idea to show us the ways of God in the manner we supposed to taking care of ourselves in relationship with one another while leaving on the earth. Which was to say, it was basically to provide protection for its citizens, but however, government was neither a substitution of God in our lives nor was it supposed to be the sustaining hand for our survival in supplying for our everyday need, and not even also a normal way to kill, or better yet to murder its citizens at any moment.

    In fact, regardless of the amount of power that we think we have on the earth through the agency of government, truly we are not in charge. There is only one that has all the authority over everything, and therefore has the final word. He is God Almighty in whom I pledge my allegiance and all my adherence to His word, because at the end, only His word will matter according to His will.

    For this reason, you will notice that I am not too happy with my evangelical friends in the way they comport themselves in the politics of our days, in the manner to make themselves relevant, which unfortunately destroys every opportunity to advance the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ as we have been commissioned to do from here and in all the parts of the earth.

    I hope and trust that you read this book with an objective mind as I tried to do in writing it in order that not only, to project the importance of the word of truth in all aspects of our lives, but also the responsibility that each one of us has to live the truth regardless of the season, the circumstances at hand, and whatever the situation that we are going through whether social economic, government, family, and others. Please keep in mind, that neither you nor I are in charge, we will certainly give an account for our lives at a time appointed, if not soon but without a doubt later. Finally, for those of us evangelicals, let us not try to embarrass ourselves because of stupid politics, let us instead make our lives count for something that has eternal consequence for the Lord, to whom be honor and glory forever, amen!

    INTRODUCTION

    Traditionally, when a newly elected President of the United States of America sworn in, people of all walks of life, different backgrounds, all faiths, and all different ethnicities should expect to join in witnessing history firsthand. The great American democracy brings both Democrats and Republicans together and the rest of the country every four years to celebrate and establish a new administration in power regardless of the political Party which is elected the President of the United States.

    On January 20, 2009, when America declared for the first time, the first African American Barack Hussein Obama II, President of the United States. That was again history in a rather unusual way, not only for the American people, but much more appreciated by all people around the world, and even so much prouder the black community, because this was unprecedented, never in the history of the land for a black man to assume the leadership of the free world, everybody needed to witness this historical moment.

    And so, you can imagine the sublimity of such an ambiance taken place in the heartland, in every corner of all cities in the country, and mainly in the steps of the nation capital city, Washington D.C. And of course, millions watching it around the world either online or through their television set.

    Beginning from the iconic and monumental celebration of the first black American raising his right hand to take the oath of office, was simply unimaginable, and yet incomparable to the previous forty-three other men who stood at the same place with pride and honor to assume the title of commander in chief of this great nation of ours.

    Needless to say, when this young state senator from Illinois, Barack Hussein Obama II was declared the forty-fourth President of the United States of America, it was completely surreal and was yet at the same time long overdue since the birth of this nation. Never such historical event happened in this land or in the world except the historical day of the release of Nelson Mandela from prison since February 11, 1990. Also, the historical public speech delivered by the great DR. Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963 I have a dream at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

    For many, each time for this great occasion, they believe that it is a duty as Americans to come together to prove once again democracy works. Regardless of their political affiliation to place in power the newly elected person at the highest office of the land, the President of the United States.

    This has been a tradition in the history of the land since the first President George Washington sworn in January 10, 1789. From the first President elected to the forty-fifth President, Donald J. Trump on January 20, 2017, this great American tradition has not only been one of the hallmarks of the democracy of the land, but it has been also the face of the American power for the land and around the world.

    Undisputedly, it has been that way because each President, not necessarily the political Party from which he came from into power, but he governed from his own doctrine within his own Party. Some of these Presidents and because of their own doctrines have been good in some ways for the country, and some others have been unfortunately a colossal embarrassment for the Party they represented and the office they occupied.

    Per history, United States of America’s government, since its independence, has not always been pursued by these two powerful political Parties, the Democrats, and the Republicans. The American government since its birth was under a first party system, which was in existence in the United States between roughly 1792 and 1824. There were normally two national Parties competing for the control of the presidency. They were: one, the congress and the other, the states. One of them was known as the Federalist Party which was created largely by Alexander Hamilton, and the other the rival Jeffersonian Democratic Republican Party which was formed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. At that time, the Federalists were dominant until 1800, while the Republicans were dominant after 1800.

    I suspect, as the American people were moving on about different aspects of their lives, they also made progress politically in the ways they sought to lead themselves where beyond the end throughout the first quarter of the nineteenth century, precisely on January 8, 1828, the Democratic Party was formed. By the way, this is worth noted, not to confound the Democratic Party that was formed in 1792, which was supported by Thomas Jefferson of whom his supporters began using the name Republicans, or Jeffersonian Republicans, which was also the reason to emphasize the anti-aristocratic policies. That Republican Party was also a different Party from the current one of our days. However, the Democratic Party retained its present name during the presidency of Andrew Jackson in the 1830’s which he was the seventh President of the United States from March 4, 1829 to March 4, 1837.(¹)

    I guess, we all can imagine today the Democratic Party had a different tune to play then as a political Party. Maybe such a political Party was not the hope or the vision that the American people were looking for during the last twenty-six years of the existence of the Party. Unfortunately, during the era of the Democratic Party, on March 28, 1854 the Republican Party was born, to bring about change throughout the political spectrum in the land and the future of a young nation in becoming great and powerful among other nations around the world.

    In our today’s society, in the context of political Party here in America: we find out that being called a Democrat, or a Republican does not truly or adequately define the position of affiliated members of either Party. It only gives however, an opportunity to contribute, through the political process, an idea, a plan, or a vote to either eliminate a problem, or to add in the development of an existent program for the benefit of a community or the entire country. Because, today we are hearing the following terms such as: for the Democratic Party: liberalism, or liberals, progressive, the left or the far left, also socialist Democrats, or progressive Democrats, also liberal progressive, and socialist progressive.

    Some of these labels are indeed accurate description of many who want to associate themselves with the Democratic Party and with the hope to see elected officials of all branches of the American government taking the direction of the country with such an agenda that reflects their views. However, there are others who have been called by these different labels because of their political views; the opposition would challenge them on issues that they are vehemently in disagreement with one another concerning those issues.

    Needless to say, the Republican Party, the affiliated members want to disassociate themselves different from the Democrats. They proudly called themselves the followings: conservative, or social conservative, the (GOP) which means the Grand old Party, the Party of Abraham Lincoln, the Party that fought to help largely end slavery in America, the Party that is fiscally responsible when it comes to taxes, they also called themselves the right wing, or the far right when it comes to some critical moral issues(²).

    If you have been around for quite sometimes in this land, or perhaps if you have studied the history of this land, it is certain that you will not deny the dramatic changes that have taken place that are in fact menace for the way of life in the land. You would notice the demarcation and the effort made by some groups based on their political views to push an agenda that is purely evil and detrimental against some other groups of people simply because of their ethnic background. Besides, we have noticed that mainly the Republican Party has worked ways to come up with unnecessary legislations to make it harder for people of color, and minorities of different parts of the land to vote freely. It is clearly intentional from the Republicans to exercise not only voter suppression in the open, but also it is an effort from their part to maintain power always regardless of the race.

    In reality this should not be a criterion with which to neither value one human being nor to devalue another. Unfortunately, this has become the new normal that brings people apart instead of utilizing their diversity to bring them all together. As the matter of fact, the seal of the American President emblem carries this inscription in it in Latin: E pluribus Unum meaning in English: Out of many, one. This has been a symbol of hope, a symbol of love, knowing that even though we may look different, but we are in fact one nation, one people under God(³).

    In the declaration of independence document, there is in fact power in the following words:

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their creator, with certain alienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness(⁴).

    In fact, these words cited here, if you allow me, they are not simply words to recite them at an opportune moment for political convenience and others, but they are also words to live by, regardless of the time, the place, the economic status of an individual, the color of one’s skin, the physical limitation, or the country of one’s origin.

    America was built by the power of God Almighty as a shining light, a city on a hill. That should mean something, and in fact, it does mean something. It is a picture of salvation, particularly to the oppressed, to the afflicted, to the ones that are searching for a better life, the pursuit of happiness, to the forgotten ones, and to the ones that are after freedom, a freedom to love, a freedom to vote, a freedom from tyranny, freedom from evil where places in the world women and children’s blood is being spilled mercilessly, also a freedom to practice one’s religious belief without being killed over it. That is what America represents in part in the pursuit of one’s happiness, and that is what America is for its citizens, and this is a noble cause, a righteous one with dignity and respect.

    Remember, if America is great it is because God made it great not in the power of evil doing in fear and intimidation. Of course, the evangelicals should know that, that is what they preach all the time. They preach about to love your neighbor, to give, to protect, to sacrifice for the sake of another. They also preach that the whole world should come to repentance to know the creator God of the universe.

    They would shout, scream, yell in order that to bring their message of love across. They would not stop at nothing to emphasize the message of love, but yet for the most part, they fail to practice what they preach because their political interest in adherence to their Party is greater than their mission and the responsibility they have before God. And they became surprisingly unapologetic in the lack of character they have shown, and for being careless in their support for the Trump administration, even after finding out the true color of the man and his unbelievable strength to divide. And sadly, the evangelicals have joined forces with Donald Trump and helped further divide the country, the same country they were supposed to showing the love of God and teaching His precepts. Oh, how miserably they failed in their mission.

    I believe for quite sometimes now; the evangelicals have conflicted their theology with their politics. As of right now, they are more prone to advance their politics than to advance the cause of God’s kingdom on earth and forget about the mission for which they were called. The evangelicals, this time, are more in the politics than ever before, and unfortunately, they cannot promote God’s will on earth as they should, they want to politicize God’s way to justify their actions with the kind of appetite they have for politics, which they should have combatted in all fronts to help bring truth, peace, love, compassion, and harmony among the American people.

    Frankly, it has been very bad for the evangelicals in the last century or so in the ways they have been neglecting their role in the affairs of mankind. They sometimes provided their platform to help promoting some cheap political ideology and social-economic agendas of which at the same time, discriminated against other groups, which inadvertently also encouraged the sentiment of evil and purposely that mindset they needed to defeat within the society whatever the form such an idea presented itself.

    Normally, if the politics is bad in the ways it may affect the lives of the people, regardless of the political Party affiliated with it, also if the politics is anathema to the theology of God represented among the people, the evangelicals would urge that political Party to reconsider the issue and to give credence to the moral obligation that is vitally critical, not only for the cause of God’s kingdom on the earth, but more importantly also for fairness and leadership ideal to be maintained among the people, not to destroy the effort that brought us all thus far as human beings.

    And so, when you look at the politics of the previous administration, the Donald Trump doctrine, it was an administration that clearly sought to divide on anything such as: on the basis of ethnicity, on the basis of economic status, on the basis of country of origin, on the basis of faith, and much more. Since the inauguration of Donald Trump presidency, and even during his presidential campaign, we sort of had a little glimpse of what to expect from him personally as a presidential candidate and the way he would govern with those vicious agendas he promoted and even the ones that he carried out as President by his administration. The Muslim band for example for some countries, the massive revocation of visas to many recipients from countries that really did not pose any threat to the United States, also the threat to deport massive of immigrants who have been in the country for many years, etc.

    Since the very first day of Trump’s administration, at the inception of his presidency, the very first speech that he gave in his inaugural was divisive and was meant to tear the country apart, to sow division among the people in order that to govern with a sense of fear. As the matter of fact, Trump said it himself: "I like chaos". And that is what he did and his administration in going primarily after all the infrastructures of the previous administration that were put in place, which resulted in chaos(⁵).

    Besides, he, as President, signed unceasingly one executive order after another to dismantle perhaps the whole fabric of the American government. He called some by name many elected officials which most of them were career politicians and public servants, to disparage their names and their services to the country, without realizing that his actions could, not only damage the trust of the American people toward their government, but also could seriously cripple his office to lead the country effectively during the challenging times down the road.

    Let us all agree on this, When Donald Trump came into power, he had a unique opportunity with an unprecedented moment in the American history to rally the country together in marching toward progress and prosperity. Granted, most of the American people did not want to elect Donald Trump as their next President. It was obvious everywhere clearly seen with protesters here in United States and around the world denouncing his presidency. As the matter of fact, Donald Trump would not be President if it were only for the popular votes. He lost them by a huge margin in favor to his opponent Hillary Clinton, but who was counting?

    Anyway, if he really had a good sense of love for his country or even to score a big one politically, he should have begun his presidency with a message of appreciation and gratitude for giving him an opportunity to serve the American people as their new commander in chief. Instead, he began with a speech that conveyed a message of division, of hate, xenophobia, knowing fully well that about 80% of the country, or maybe a little bit less, were not in favor of him elected, and even at the same moment of delivering his inaugural speech, there were marching millions across the country protesting against him.

    He had a moment, yes, a moment which could have been the one that turned the heart of the people in his favor to give him a chance to become the leader that the American people needed to have, especially when the country was already in that moment in the path of economic recovery with the promise to encourage them to work together, to build on the works that have been done by the previous administration that brought the country out of the recession. Unfortunately, he could not see those efforts as, collectively, a good thing, instead he spoke ill against his predecessor by unashamedly distorting the truth about the work he has done …

    As the matter of fact, before Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, the economy was in good stand, he inherited from the previous administration an economy, for example which was in its 74th month straight of job growth with an unemployment rate at its lowest. In fact, more students were graduating from college with almost no student loans. He had in his advantage the recovery of the auto industries, and of course the measures that were put in place with certain regulations against the giant banks and corporations, also the insurance companies and the drug companies.

    Besides, we do not want to forget millions of Americans who were able to receive medical care because of the Obama care the (ACA) which provided affordable care for low-income families and for those with pre-existing conditions and many more with medical drug cost which were substantially low. These are the kind of things that he should have promised to build on to move forward for a more prosperous America, but instead he threatened the way of life of many who have fought to keep America safe and prosperous by attacking their families, their heritage, their ethnicity, and even those who have given their lives in the battle fields of wars, the gold star families, something that he wouldn’t know anything about because when he was called to serve his country in uniform, he came up with an inexcusable reason not to serve.

    However, as being the President of the United States, Donald Trump would not change his mind about the policies that he wanted to implement during his presidency regarding the needs of the American people in many ways, his irresponsible behaviors directly affect the American people negatively every single day. Frankly, one could not help and wonder, if he were not after to deliberately destroy the entire American fabric in the process of expressing his hatred toward whatever it was that he perceived to be evil with the American government establishment.

    From this point forward, I am not going to argue the politics of all the reasons that compelled Donald Trump and his administration to prey on these poor people affected by his hardcore divisive policies. However, what I think I will continue to point out from a moral standpoint and decency, the attitude of the evangelicals that seems to give a blind eye at the manner that previous administration was treating its citizens in the way the President talked to them and about them, also in the way he acted toward them like an autocrat sometimes, and some of the decisions that he was making which potentially put the national security of this country also at risk.

    I also want to talk about the silence the evangelicals offered against countless of negative and unnecessary tweets that the President put out every day and his blatant lies that he uttered almost every time he opened his mouth. Those tweets that he put out and the lies that he also told were in fact his effort in part to manipulate the political discourse against the most vulnerable ones, not necessarily to hurt them, but to maintain control of the narrative, especially in the media, so that the overall objective would be that he would assume total power over the American people’s lives in a cunning way regardless of the written laws that stood in his way, and the limited power given to him by the constitution.

    Listen, let us all agree for the sake of civility, a lie is a lie regardless of who is telling it. What all of you the evangelicals should do, instead of pretending that you did not see it reporting in the news, or you did not hear it, your role as citizens of this land and more importantly as God’s representatives in this land also for this generation, was to speak against it with love and compassion, especially against the President of the United States, and whoever it may be, not in a way to put him down, but in the effort to bring back normalcy, decency, peace, and a sense of security.

    Besides, being evangelicals, your very mission is to speak the truth because for the simple fact that God is operating always on the account of truth, unlike the evil one (Satan) who operates on lies only. If evangelicals do not call a lie for what it is regardless of who is telling it, it is as if we, as evangelicals, are giving free way to the evil one to reign and to establish a culture of lies, something we all have worked so hard to prevent from our homes, from our schools, from our workplaces, also from our society, and now what about it too from our government?

    In some way, I could see why there was this love affair between the evangelicals and the Republicans. It has been a tradition that the evangelicals have kept for centuries and felt that the policies the Republican Party have put forward have been policies that have been in line with evangelicals’ faith. It does make sense however, that the evangelicals remain loyal to the Republican base. They think that it is important to support their base in good and bad times. Frankly, that seems noble to do, but at the same time it should be more important for the evangelicals to focus primarily on God’s mission, not in the politics of either political Party whether good or evil. Because, politics will come and go, they will change from time to time, but God’s word will remain the same forever.

    The problem for those of us evangelicals, when we start mixing our faith with politics, we tend to get in trouble all the time. It is not that we cannot get involved in government, public service, as oppose to stay away from it, but when we are involved, we do not want to get carried away or to be influenced by the sinful behaviors or the craziness of a politician or politicians representing the Party that we are affiliated with. Remember, for every generation, we are called to bring the light in a world filled with darkness. We are the hope of the world to ever know the working of God in the affair of mankind. What if we do the same in everything they do because of their politics, where would the hope of the world be? Think about that!

    The saying goes: We are all created equal this is not simply a saying; is it? It is the very truth of God’s word. When a politician is starting to put one human being against another because of one’s country of origin, because of the color of one’s skin, or because of one’s economic status, this is evil. As evangelicals, we should not be participating in things like that secretly and openly. Our role should always be to denounce such a thing for what it really
