Introduction
My name is Aisha Night.
It took me some time to decide whether I should write this book. I was thinking about the embarrassment it would bring to me and my family. But I thought this book could help someone who may be or has been going through similar situations in life. I decided to tell the world how I overcame what happened in my life and how God blessed me so that I am still here today.
I thank my entire family for their support in my time of need. I especially thank my sisters. We have experienced a lot of hard times, good times, and lots of tears, all which have shaped us to be strong women of God, positive mothers, and loving human beings.
Although I may not tell my family how I feel very often, I want them to know that I love them with every fiber of my being. I also want to thank my brothers for always putting up with me no matter what. I believe that when you have a loving family, you should hold on to the memories, whether good or bad, because at the end of the day, that’s all we really have.
I thank my mom for always dealing with my father’s crap and for staying strong, trying to raise us the right way. The following words are from my heart: I pray you have a blessed life. Your prayers are heard.
Grandma, thank you for keeping our family together. Even though you know that most of us don’t have a relationship with God, no matter how many times we have messed up, you have never given up on us. Love you.
Father God, thank you for giving me the strength and courage to write this book!
Chapter One
When I was living with my grandmother, things weren’t so bad. My grandmother used to make sure we had food, clean clothes, heat, and hot water. There came a time when my grandmother had to move on with her life because all of her children were grown. She had seven children. She was a strong woman of God who continually prayed for her family.
I remember sitting around and talking about how the family had expanded from two people. My grandmother and her sister started what years later turned out to be a mess. Between the two of them, they had fourteen kids.
After my grandmother moved on, my mom became the owner of her house. Lots of things changed, and it seemed always to be cold. I remember the hunger pains from not eating every day and night. I can still hear my siblings crying because they were either hungry or cold. Our house was in need of so many repairs that we played in it as if it was some type of clubhouse.
We shared beds because it was the only way to stay warm. Most of the time, we would be afraid to fall asleep because we had huge rats running around. The rats were almost as big as the cat we owned. At night we could hear the rats chewing through the walls. Our cat would try to catch them before they could reach the steps, and the fights between the cat and rats were
