Author

T.G. Willis

Terry is a serious scholar of scriptural subjects and has been for over 50 years. The fascination and intrigue of the Biblical Book of Revelation has always been of major interest - and more so in the light of increasing malevolence in life. Although the Biblical book of Revelation has many abstruse depictions, the four malevolent apocalyptic horses are clearly revealed through history. He attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Bible College in Canberra, Australia.

It is God who saved us and chose us to live a holy life. He did this not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan long before the world began – to show his love and kindness to us through Christ Jesus. - 2 Timothy 1:9 (NLT Precept Austin.org)

‘What is the meaning of life?’ is the often-asked rhetorical question. The answer is located in the plan for the world.

    Everybody makes Plans!

    Daily plans and God’s plans

L ife consists of planning! It could be as simple as planning to go swimming later in the day, which involves considering the best time, thinking about what may be needed, estimating the method of conveyance, amount of time there to occupy, returning home, etc. Planning usually precedes action!

It might be planning an evening meal or the expected events during the day, or perhaps a future day and event, maybe camping out needing a menu, amongst other things – but very few expected occasions occur without planning in some way! (And many disasters occur through lack of planning!) And, of course, greater planning and strategies are required when more people and larger events are envisaged. All successful businesses plan to succeed. They pay attention to details that will affect their business. Their management meets together to calculate and estimate how their past performance has affected their growth; what might be the cause of hampering their expectations; how to deal with anticipated situations; marketing strategies to project their hopes and aspirations, etc.

Of course, circumstances don’t always adhere to one’s plan. Often contingencies challenge intentions and must be managed.

Departments and organisations are established to handle accidents, horrific events, natural disasters and anything that affects our corporate and national lifestyles. Crisis Co-ordination Centres, Maritime rescue units, aircraft disaster rescues, horror mine collapse rescues, fires, wars – the list is endless! But every single possibility of disaster has been considered (as much as possible) and prior contingency plans have been designed and instigated. The book ‘In Case of Emergency – How Australia deals with disasters’ says ‘Extreme weather conditions and terrorism have sparked increasing interest in national security issues, risk assessment and critical infrastructure protection. As special information is critical to the prevention, preparation for, response to, and recovery from emergency events, there is a compelling argument for cooperation between agencies to collate special data and Geographic Information System (GIS) capacity.’¹ In other words, input from multiple sources has value for organised recovery!

A plan of some sort is even needed for writing this book – otherwise all that results is a jumble of disconnected ideas and expressions! And too, without knowing the future, and before the possibility of life after death has been ‘reasoned’ away there exists a yearning, no, a longing that this life is not all there is – there must be more after death! It has been said: ‘It has never been possible for me to persuade myself that the universe could have been created, and we, homo sapiens, so-called, have, generation after generation, somehow made our appearance to sojourn briefly on our tiny earth, solely in order to mount the interminable soap opera, with the same characters and situations endlessly recurring, that we call history.’²

But, man is not the sole maker of plans! God is the God of plans! God is far more practical and less mystical than is generally realised. But if we view God as all practical he³ becomes ‘just like me only bigger’ and if we view God as more mystical he just becomes a vague entity and an almost irrelevant figurehead of man’s religion. There is a balance! And there is a reason for the 1 centimetre of our oft-time malevolently miserable lives against the endless tape-measure of eternity!

God, the Bible records, formed each one of us, carefully planning a life course for each of us to follow⁴ within his plan for the world. The demonstration of this is revealed in the life of Cyrus, King of Persia, and conqueror of the known world. Through the prophet Isaiah God revealed his plan to use Cyrus about 200 years before the birth of Cyrus. When Cyrus saw his name recorded so long before his birth, in the writings of the Prophet he was stunned with the realisation of his pawn-ship, and complied with what God had said to and about him.⁵ And in like manner, with the final goal of refining his family in mind God has planned the perfect course for our individual lives depending on what he wants us to comprehend and what actions to follow. In fact all our own plans are subject to what God allows.

In this account we will examine God’s plan for the world and dealing with apparent contingencies.

Every stage of God’s focus and attention exists to either elicit a response from or teach a lesson to individuals or mankind and he also gives directions of how to handle personal and national events – if we take the time to listen!⁶ Every aspect of life, including the reason for, the purpose of, and the future of life may be gleaned from God’s plan latently glistening through the holy word, the Holy Bible! And yet God allows us to decide for ourselves whether to find his plan or enact our own designs. God will not force you to go against your will.⁷ It’s the freedom of choice that enables mankind to selectively and positively respond in a relationship with God. The overall scope of God’s plan for each of us and the world astonishes the mind and contradicts our common understanding that while Satan (God’s supposed enemy) authors evilness and harm, God only does ‘nice things’. Common thinking purveys God as a ‘marshmallow God’ – a sort of glorified fairy Godmother, wringing his hands with concern
