INTRODUCTION
Wisdom to inspire is a book of poems, Collection of words designed to inspire, motivate and encourage right thoughts and right actions. These poems come from the depths of my soul, from the very essence of who I am. Poems that tells stories, simple stories of where I have been, what I have seen and heard of the nature of people, places and things. Poems, that come from experiences lived, experiences that gave me strength to live and grow into the person I am today.
It was out of sadness, fear, regrets, joy, laughter and the pain of loneliness that I wrote these poems. Psychologically and emotionally invested, writing each poem provided a psychological release for me. It was a therapeutic endeavour to the degree that after each writing I was left in a place of peace with a sense of ease.
Each poem has its own message. There is something in each one for each of us. There are poems about the rivers, the climate, the woman, the man, mental illness, spousal abuse, love, pain and even about the mirror.
I have been writing poetry for over 18 years, but it was not until a dear friend and brother in the struggle, (Brother Emmanuel Shabazz) read some of his poems to me that I began to chronicle the ones I had written and began to write new ones.
One of my earliest poems, titled The Essence of Love, is one of those poems that reflect a time when news that my life partner was moving on with her life had begun to sink in. It was a sad period for me, more than sadness it was a period of reflection. A state of all my what ifs’, the
could have been
should have been and how
I wish it were".
Two of my later poems; the first of which is titled A letter from Ma’ Daddy and the second titled If only I was There are poems to my children, asking for their forgiveness. They are poems of confession, confessing the sadness of not being there, to watch as my children grow up into these beautiful young men and women they are today.
Wisdom to inspire is my way of saying thanks to the universe, thanks to humanity and thanks to the unseen powers that kept my mind, body and soul safe from harm, enabling me to survive and to live, finding self and peace in the hardest of days and the most difficult of circumstances and condition.
I pray these poems, my words and my thoughts, bring each reader a sense of joy and peace, that each reader will be inspired and motivated in their own way.
Thanks, and thanks again.
Peace
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It would have been impossible for me to have completed this project without the continuous help and support from the many people who took an interest in seeing the idea of WISDOM TO INSPIRE manifested into a book.
I will never forget the many friends and family members whose kind words and simply put, potent advice kept me going even when I wanted to give up. The sometimes critical, yet useful words, advice, and remarks from these beautiful individuals, kept me focus, dedicated and helped to make the task of writing this book one of pure joy and emotional satisfaction.
I know it would be impossible for me to include the names of all these beautiful people here, nevertheless those whose names are not included are no less important or appreciated.
A special thank from the bottom of my heart to all my
