About this ebook

This book is not about myself. It is about life and the living who share my predicament and struggle. I was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease by Dr.Teresa M Mangin at Dean Neurology, in Madison, Wisconsin on October 19, 2013. Within six months of clinical observations, diagnosis, and on-trial medications, I was medically confirmed positive and was prevented from working on my last job since then.

In writing this book, I have carefully laid out a step by step introduction on each chapter about the disease and my-SHIELD, a multi-faceted lifestyle therapy to improve your quality of life with a humanistic agenda (incorporating your doctor’s prescribed medications & symptoms modifying treatments, and my-SHIELD) to enjoy more flexibility and mobility, living life to its fullest, on a day-to-day basis.

    Foreword

It has been well-known that Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic progressive neurological disorder, which has no cure to date. Most drugs available on the market are used to alleviate symptoms of PD. It is eventually distressing to both patients and family members when PD progresses to become advanced.

I was extremely honored when Chef Ng approached me in April 2019 for his book review. He is revered as a chef and researcher in gastronomy. His vastly crafty experience in culinary has won him international recognition and countless awards.

His life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with PD in October 2013. As a professional chef, living with such an incurably disabling disease must have been a torture. However with his exceptional courage and optimism, he devoted himself to reading articles and studies related to PD to understand his affliction better.

my-SHIELD against Parkinson’s disease is Ng’s tireless research in combination with his personal gruelling journey on how he has modified and adopted this humanistic and multi-faceted approach to combat PD. The weapons described in his book are well grounded and recommended as an adjunctive therapy for PD. As a neurologist, I am tremendously amazed by his marvelous work and knowledge about PD. As a reader, his work is readable and commendable for his selfless devotion.

I highly recommend this book to those interested in knowing PD, especially those affected and their families.

I applaud Ng’s impressive work and wish him success in fighting this disease.
