CHAPTER ONE

Kai & Evelynn

I told Anita I want to leave her, Kai confessed to Evelynn. Evelynn’s eyes visibly lit up, she was happy and it was almost impossible to hide it. This was the news she had been waiting months to hear, and now it was finally happening. Why should she hide her excitement? She stood up from the chair she was once lounging in and walked towards the wall Kai was casually leaning on.

His demeanor was unusually calm for the situation. They had been discussing this for weeks. He should be a bit more chipper. His crisp white shirt seemed bright against the darkness of his skin. He didn’t look excited like Evelynn expected him to and it was making her nervous. He normally was optimistic when he discussed them getting back together so why was tonight different?

That means we can finally get back together, Evelynn put herself closer to Kai, smiling at him but he didn’t smile back. Instead he stared at her for what Evelynn thought seemed like forever. Evelynn put her hand on his shoulder as if reassuring him but her hand fell to her side as Kai walked toward the window.

Kai stared out into the night wishing that he could really wish upon a star and be with Evelynn. He looked at her with pain in his eyes. He loved her and he didn’t want to do this to her but he had to. He had no other choice. He was about to break her heart again and it was killing him. He knew she patiently waited for him to find his way back to her and now he was going to tell her he wasted her time.

Evelynn was beginning to get a bit anxious. Something inside of her was telling her this meeting was not going to go in the direction she was hoping for. She could feel her heart pounding hard against her chest and she wondered if Kai could see it beating through her shirt. His dark brown eyes were so intense as they stared at her. They seemed to bore into her soul. She shifted on her feet uncomfortably trying to get away from that look. What was he thinking about?

"I changed my mind. She made me realize that I love her too much to leave her," Kai finally said as he turned his back on her and peered back out the window.

He was looking at nothing in particular, but he needed somewhere to look other than that pained look he knew would be on her face. He took silent deep breaths preparing himself for Evelynn’s reaction. They had been broken up for three months and in that time Evelynn had still reserved her heart for only him. Of course she was going to be mad. Livid. He had let her down again.

Evelynn needed a second to catch her breath before she could respond. What did he mean he loved someone else? That was not a part of the plan. She loved him and he loved her. Why was he making this more difficult than it needed to be? She stayed true to him even in their time of trouble. He was her first. Her only; and she was willing to forgive his transgressions so why was he doing this again?

She shook her head in denial refusing to believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. This had to be a joke; A joke that she did not seem to find funny.

What? She finally demanded. Her voice was accusing because she didn’t believe him. Of course she didn’t believe him. She knew that Kai had to be lying to her because he loved her and nobody else. I don’t believe this.

Kai turned from the window giving her a small grin. Her normally bright eyes glistened. No matter how tough she sounded, Kai knew she was on the verge of tears. You have to. She did have to believe him. She had no choice. Kai couldn’t be with her no matter how much he wanted to and he desperately wanted to. He loved her more than he had loved any other woman but it did not matter.

Why are you doing this to me? Evelynn was suddenly in Kai’s face. She could not hold herself back. Her heart was shattering and instead of feeling sad she was getting furious. She could feel the knot in her throat threatening to choke her. Tears of rage wanted to fall but she wiped them away as she glared at him. Who in the Hell did he think he was? Coming into her home just to tell her some crap like this?

Just let it go. His voice was calm but deep down, he was destroyed. He understood her anger. He felt the same anger when he realized he had to let her go but there were things about him she didn’t know; she couldn’t know and this meant they couldn’t be together anymore. He was not the White Knight she believed he could be.

Let it go? Evelynn repeated as if she misunderstood the question but she did understand. She just didn’t understand how he could say that to her. He knew her too well. They had been dating since they were in high school. He had to have known how she would have reacted. He absolutely knew she would not have let this go. If he did not want her reaction, he should not have come. No, you are leaving me again! I have a right to know why you’re choosing this bitch over me. Is it because she is more beautiful? Because she is super skinny? Because she has two -

Stop talking. Kai suddenly strengthened his stance as he looked down at Evelynn, and she could tell he was revolted by her words. His dark eyes seemed menacing and it actually caused Evelynn to take a step back. Evelynn suddenly began to question his love for her. Perhaps she was wrong. Maybe he did love Anita more than he did her because he had never looked at her in such a manner. Maybe she should not have called her a bitch. The hair on her arms raised and her heart shuddered.

She shook her head as a laugh escaped her mouth. The situation was not funny but what else could she do? She glanced at the door looking for an escape should she need it. As calm and composed as he looked standing in front of her, Evelynn knew the situation could quickly turn. She was not stronger than him.

Kai was fuming. How could she think he would ever willingly choose anyone over her? Yes, he made a mistake and he got in bed with the wrong person but he didn’t want this; he wanted her. He just couldn’t have her. She was stunning. No, she was not skinny. She was curvy and he loved every curve on her body. Her hair was wild and represented her personality. Her brownish green eyes always took his breath away. Even in the current situation her eyes threatened to destroy him.

She bit her full bottom lip in a nervous gesture and his cock jumped. Damn, he was in trouble. He knew he had to convince her that they were over but he did not realize the effect it would have on him. How could he convince her that he was over her when he could not even prove it to himself? Either way, he had to try.

Because she’s the only one that really gets me. Everything about her is— Kai’s head made a hard right turn when Evelynn’s open palm made fast contact with his face. The shock on Kai’s face was visible. He brought his own hand up to his burning cheek before locking his eyes back with hers. This time, she didn’t wipe her tears away. They fell freely down her face showing her feeling of betrayal.

How dare you? I’m the only woman for you. What are you afraid of? Why are you turning away from me? How would your girl feel about you being here with me in my room? Tell me! Evelynn couldn’t stop ranting; she was livid. She knew the stuff coming out of her mouth probably sounded crazy to Kai, still she did not care. She was wrong. She did not need an escape from Kai, he needed one from her.

The more she yelled the angrier she became. This could not be happening to her. Not again. She loved Kai and she knew he loved her. What was going on? What was his problem? Her fist clenched tighter as she howled on. She had to force herself to open her fingers to stop the annoying ache that was beginning to take hold.

Kai did not know what to do. All he could think was how beautiful she was when she was angry. How he loved the way all of her naturally curly hair was always flowing down her back and bouncing all around and the way her pretty mouth pouted when she was not hearing what she wanted to. He really didn’t want to upset her, but he knew it was inevitable.

Evelynn please—

Don’t! Tears streamed down her face as she rubbed roughly at her forehead. I loved you so much and you didn’t love me back. How could you? Evelynn became hysterical. He knew she actually did not want to hear any more of the nonsense that was coming out of his mouth. He didn’t want to hear it either. It would be wise to just end the conversation; and end it fast.

Before Kai could think of a calmer subject to switch to, Evelynn began punching and hitting him, continually connecting with his chest, shoulders, and stomach, while her feet aimed successfully at his shins. He deserved the pain that she was inflicting on him but she did not deserve the war raging inside of her. He had to end the whole thing.

Evelynn, stop, knock it off, Kai tried to shield his face from Evelynn’s attack with very little success. He could barely concentrate on the pain she was desperately trying to inflict. All he sensed was her hurt; all he saw was the pain streaming out of her eyes, all he heard were all the hateful words coming out her mouth, and he knew he was to blame. He did not want to experience any of it. Anger flashed over Kai’s face and then it was gone.

He caught Evelynn’s fist just before it made contact with his left shoulder. Evelynn’s heart jumped against her chest as Kai spun her quickly and pinned her hard and fast against the window with force that was almost strong enough to break the glass. Evelynn yanked her wrist free, and in instinct of defense, brought her knee up to try and kick Kai in his groin; but he knew her and knew that would be her first reaction. They had been in too many altercations before this. It was impossible for him not to know her mindset.

Kai grabbed her knees and lifted her up easily onto the windowsill, so that her legs were around his waist and her body was hard-pressed against the window. His lips crushed hard on hers as he kissed her deep. He could feel her body fighting against his but he did not care. She was not stronger than him and if he wanted her he was going to have her.

Evelynn nearly forgot she was angry. Kai always had that effect on her. He could could commit murder but if he kissed her she would probably forgive him. She started to trace her fingers along the nape of his neck. She could get lost in him. She could feel his erection pushing at her through her pants. She almost dropped her hand to feel the glorious width of him but the situation re-registered in her mind and she began pushing at his chest.

Kai lifted his head to look at Evelynn and she thrust him backwards. He only took two steps backwards but it was enough for Evelynn to lower her body and make her escape. She huffed out her sexual frustrations and walked past him. She needed time to regroup. No, He needed to leave. If he wanted to leave she should let him. She turned back to him to him.

Get out, her words were almost a whisper but she knew he heard her. Her body was burning up for him but she would not beg him to stay.

Kai stared at Evelynn. His manhood was still bulging in his jeans but he knew he should go. He walked past her towards the door and looked back at her beauty. Her pajama bottoms rode low on her hips and her tank top gave away her lust for him. Her nipples were hard peaks pressing through the thin material. She looked away from him and her chin went up in a defiant manner.

They were both in trouble because she was his. She belonged to him. All of her. He wanted to do the right thing but he failed. He needed her to know that she would always be his.

Kai stalked back over to Evelynn and bunched her hair in his palm. He loved her hair. She had recently showered and her hair was damp against his palm. He pulled her mane forcing her head back and took her mouth. He continued to devour her lips as he led her toward her bed. He released her lips and pushed her long body letting her fall onto the welcoming sheets.

How dare you? She spat the words at him while trying to get up. She knew he was trying to worm his way out of another bad situation with his sex appeal, and she was not going to let that happen. She refused to allow him a free pass. She would never forgive herself if she gave in to her body’s demands for him. Why was he doing this? He said he didn’t want to be with her so why wouldn’t he just leave? He was not being fair.

Her thoughts were disturbed as Kai pushed her back down on the bed. Before Evelynn could say anything else, she looked up to see his shirt falling to the ground, leaving his chest exposed and sculpted. God, he was so beautiful. He was a running back and it was obvious. His muscles were so defined and they begged her to kiss them.

She began taking deep breaths in a failed attempt to control her thoughts. She shut her eyes and sat up demanding herself to hold her ground. She would not be weak. She would not give in. If he wanted to go she was going to let him but she knew he would miss her body. He would regret letting her go and that seemed to give her strength.

Just as she thought she had herself under control, Kai’s Boxer Briefs fell to the ground and she felt like time and space had frozen. Only the sound of her breathing was audible as her eyes fell on what was between Kai’s legs. She watched him slide a condom onto his perfect erection. Suddenly, the room seemed unusually loud for two people that were no longer speaking. She could no longer control her breathing. She was doomed.

He couldn’t resist her. He loved her most when she was angry. He knew this was a mistake. He was only adding flames to the fire but what else could he do? This was his, she was his; until the morning. Then he would be gone and she would be crushed but there was no alternative. They both deserved one last night.

She was sure Kai could hear her heart beating. Her breathing was too fast and ragged to even pretend she was not affected by the sight of him. Don’t give in, don’t give in, she repeated to herself. But it was pointless. She was staring at his thick, black, perfectly-made man part, and she could not look away no matter how hard she tried. All she noticed was the way he hung with a slight J-curve, and it brought memories and fantasies to her head that she did not want there.

She licked her lips and looked up at Kai with pleading in her eyes because she knew that her body wanted him so bad and longed for his touch but her pride was hurt, and she wanted so bad to be strong. She needed him to walk away because right there in that moment she knew she no longer could.

Just let me make love to you. The raspy voice of Kai’s desire for Evelynn made her heart shudder. Those were the words that she had heard so many times before and also the same words she missed. Her insides went from hot to liquid magma. She had not experienced him in over three months and it felt like an eternity. All the thoughts and yearnings took over and her jaw dropped and she leaned forward, taking him into her mouth.

Evelynn witnessed as Kai’s head fell back and the air escaped his lungs and out of his mouth. Kai’s hands attached to the nest of curls on top of her head as he attempted to keep his footing. This would be his punishment she convinced herself. She would remind him what he was missing then he’d come crawling back for more.

The condom was so tight and well made it was as if he was raw. She could feel the defined veins running through his manhood. The condom had a sweet flavor. A flavor that appeared fruity but she was too far gone to process the taste.

She pulled her mouth slowly down the length of his shaft, stopping at the head. Her tongue moved over the sensitive skin causing him to move his hips back and forth.

Mmmmmmm. Kai’s fingers tightened in the mass of curls as he pulled himself out of her welcoming jaws. He needed her; all of her but first he needed to taste her one last time.

Evelynn wanted to question Kai’s reasoning for stopping her but the look in his eyes made her stop short in her thoughts. The desire in his pupils appeared untamed. She could almost taste his yearning for her. His normally large eyes looked veiled with ecstasy and she could not stop the shiver that ran up her spine.

Kai pushed her back onto the bed, looked down at her, and with his deep voice he whispered again, let me make love to you.

Kai reached down and pulled off Evelynn’s pajama pants without waiting for her response. She was wearing no underwear, and her dark triangle of hair was inviting in the dim lighting of the bedroom.

She knew Kai could see the rise and fall of her chest as she tried to keep her composure. She knew his own heart was racing as she watched his arousal thicken.

Kai dropped to his knees and pulled Evelynn’s long legs until her bottom was at the edge of the bed. He lowered his head and took his time exploring her insides. Evelynn’s hand tangled in the sheets as the gasp of pleasure escaped her throat.

This was what she remembered and this was what she wanted to keep. She didn’t want to share him. She didn’t want anyone else having his body but her. They were great together; she didn’t understand why Kai couldn’t see that.

He knew nobody could please her the way he could. He knew nobody else could drive him crazy wild like her. He loved this woman and he hated that he had to let her go. He didn’t want to imagine anyone else’s mouth pleasing her core like him. He held her hips trying to keep her still. He let his tongue enjoy the playground that was Evelynn. Her taste and her scent were intoxicating. She bucked against his mouth and it fueled hunger. Her cries were music to his ears.

He needed to taste all of her. He knew her Orgasm was close and he was eagerly awaiting it. He could feel her trying to escape him but he refused to allow her that. How dare she believe he wanted to leave her. Although, he could not blame her.

Evelynn continued to ride out her orgasm. Her toes stiffened as they began to curl. The sensation coming from her core felt too good to be true. She attempted moving away but Kai quickly snatched her by the waist and held her still. Her fingers curled in her sheet and her head thrashed.

Cries of pleasure released from her mouth as her body bucked with ripples. When her orgasm was done her legs went limp and Kai kissed his way up her body and ended at her neck. Evelynn slid her nails up and down his back as he passionately kissed her. They had lost their virginity to each other in high school and they took their time back then learning how to please each other.

The air rushed out of both of their mouths in almost perfect synchronization when Kai’s manhood plunged deep into Evelynn’s moist core, causing Evelynn’s nails to dig deep into his skin. Her nails cutting into Kai’s flesh resulted in his lips clamping down hard on the side of Evelynn’s neck as he suckled away. She moaned as she bit her lip.

The idea of never feeling her like this again was unbearable. Kai did not know if how he was going to do it.

Evelynn’s legs wrapped around Kai’s back and her nails dug deeper. She needed his shirt gone. She pulled at his shirt and he understood. He pulled his shirt from his body and tossed it aside. She took Kai’s mouth with hers and sped up the motion of her hips. How could she ever stay mad at him when he made love to her like he did?

In a swift motion, Kai flipped Evelynn so that she was on top of him, straddling him like the cowgirl she wished she was at that moment. Kai reached up and pulled off her top.

She bent over him, increasing her speed as he took her left breast into his mouth. Evelynn watched as Kai’s hands got a tighter grip on her wrist and then his head fell back once more. This time, Evelynn watched the pleasure on Kai’s face as he let out a muffled moan as his body released his juices. She slowly rode him, milking all of him.

When Kai finally regained his breathing he opened his eyes and stared up at Evelynn. She was amazing in everyway. He rolled her over so that he was behind her on his side and she was on hers. They were both quiet for a while, lying with no words between them.

Evelynn didn’t want to ruin the moment by bringing up the past conversation again but she could not hold herself back. Just because they shared a special moment did not mean anything was resolved. She was still conflicted. Did they just have sex or did they make love?

Why would you want to leave me? Evelynn whispered. She rubbed her fingers up and down the length of his arm as it cradled her to him.

Kai pushed up Evelynn’s hair and kissed the nape of her neck. His lips were soft as they brushed kisses over her skin. His silence continued to greet her and she frowned. If she knew him as well as she thought she did, she knew he definitely did not want to ruin the moment they just shared together any more than she did.

Just let me hold you, was all he whispered back as he tightened his hold on her.

After a while of lying in silence, Kai reached past Evelynn’s head and turned out the lamp on her bedside table. He pulled the covers up over the both of them, and Evelynn drifted off to sleep in the dark.

CHAPTER TWO

Evelynn

That was the last time Evelynn made love with Kai or with anyone. It had been over a year now, and Evelynn still found herself thinking about that night. She remembered waking up in the middle of her bed lying in the dark, and Kai had already gone. She knew at that moment she had lost him. Even after all they had been through, both good and bad, Kai chose to abandon all they had. They still kept in contact here and there just checking up on each other, but it wasn’t the same.

He liked to toy with her. He would reach out to her and tell her how much he missed her yet he wouldn’t leave Anita. He tried to have sex with her a few times but Evelynn refused to open back up that wound for a simple fling. She was slowly getting over him and she couldn’t afford to ruin it.

Evelynn hated that he was still dating that little girl, Anita. Evelynn felt idiotic to ever think he would actually leave her. Anita was short with dark almond skin and long hair, although Evelynn was sure half of her hair was filled with extensions. The girl basically worshiped Kai; of course, he would keep her; wouldn’t anybody?

Evelynn walked over to the oversized mirror on her dresser and stared at herself then gave a little smirk. She looked pretty good, she thought. Thanks to long seasons on the volleyball team as the star outside hitter, she had lost a lot of weight, and her body looked well-toned. She was five – feet – ten inches tall with a relatively small waist and big hips. She was far from skinny. She was definitely curvy but it was nice.

She always received remarks on how big her butt was, but she figured it was men being men although she received those comments from women too. She often thought, what was the point of having such a great figure if you could not use it to win back the man you once thought was your soulmate?

She usually had beautifully tanned skin that looked like the sun kissed her, but it was November, and cold weather paled her complexion tremendously. But it was in a nice way, she had always thought. It wasn’t like she looked like a vampire or anything; she was just fairly lighter than the other people in her race. This time of year her curly hair looked extra dark, hanging down past her shoulders.

Her black-and-white—rimmed glasses made her look knowledgeable; well when she actually wore her glasses and not her contacts, that is. But at the moment she was wearing them, and they magnified her distinctive green eyes. Her eyes were actually hazel but the green seemed to stand out more than the brown although she wished they were a darker color since they often made people confuse her race. Nevertheless, she felt that was normal for somebody who was considered a mutt when it came to ethnicities since her family lineage was filled with race after race.

Evelynn smiled at herself and stared at her left arm, the trademark that made her stand out against all the rest. She was missing her arm from the elbow down.

I was just born this way, she always told people when they asked what happened. It didn’t bother her because after having to deal with the same question for almost 21 years she became immune toward any insecurities the question could induce. Plus, she thought it was what made her special.

The coaches of the volleyball team back in her high school of course thought this would affect her chances at making it big, but she proved them wrong when she received her full sports scholarship to the school of her dreams; The Great Mason University.

The true reason Evelynn
