About this ebook

Rosie was with me, looking out of a window, an imaginary scene of a battle during the Civil War in our minds. We were trying to understand the feelings of thousands who gave their lives for enduring desires, a right to live, a right to exhibit pride and honor, and a right to be equal.

Attempting to realize the senseless meaning of the four-year war, as brutal and pointless one may surmise, we feel as though there is an awareness at these battlefields, a feeling of spiritual glow of the historical happenings. The devotion of each and every soldier regardless of rank or capability to be in the fight on foot and face-to-face—all this during the many nights of freezing temperatures, lack of food, medical assistance, or comfort of one’s family. The many times that I visited Gettysburg and other battlefields, I feel an urge, such a passion, to learn more.

    Introduction

Dear readers, we are going on a wonderful adventure that takes us back, 158 years to what has been called The American Civil War…a tragic, horrific four years of fighting between the southern, Confederate States and the North…the Union.

Many interesting and amazing stories have resulted in this war…a few are written about in this storybook. Throughout the book, most of the information is from personal experience…along with intense research and very authentic photographs.

The story of Gettysburg is a compilation of historical facts, events and feelings during the difficult three-day battle…known as the bloodiest battle in the Civil War. The much agreed to remarks would include, how could these soldiers march on and on…attack the enemy face to face, with a common goal, to be victorious.

Our story also takes us to several beautiful scenic areas of interest…such natural splendor and reverence with regard to this disturbing period in our country.

There are so many historical places to read about, and visit in the country…places that that will forever remain in books and in the minds of our people. Children should be taught about the conflicts and laws that govern our American way of life.

This Gettysburg adventure is the 8th of our personal experience stories. The other seven took the readers to Paris, Egypt, Mackinac Island, Hawaii, The Mexican Riviera, The Caribbean, and the most recent…to Nassau in The Bahamas. The books have many photographs, extensive information, maps and poems about each destination. All of the covers are taken from paintings that Diane has created.

The only out-of-the-order…comical point of each story is that they are
