Dr. Phillip Seals

Phillip Douglas Seals was born in N.C. in January 1961. He has three brothers and two sisters that he grew up with. In 1979 he graduated high school and entered the United States Army being discharged in 1986. He then relocated to Tennessee where he went to college and became a licensed paramedic. As a paramedic he has further advanced his knowledge of pre-hospital emergency medicine by becoming certified as a Critical Care Paramedic, a Certified Flight Paramedic. He not only sought every opportunity to continue learning but he also became certified as an instructor in many basic and advanced life support and trauma care curricula. His goal was to serve and help others that were physically sick and injured. In 2007 he began his education in ministry starting with Union University where he received a diploma in Christian ministry. He then transferred to Liberty Bible College and Seminary where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in Theology, and eventually his Doctorate in Christian Counseling. Dr. Seals’ goal now is to care for the spiritually sick and injured in obedience to our Lord and God. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

F irst and foremost, I thank almighty God for His inspiration and guidance in the writing of this book. The conception of this book would not have been possible if He had not planted the seed in my heart. This book is truly a work of God because it is in His timing that it is presented to the world to be an eye-opener to us all.

I thank Ms. Belinda Jividen, who has been a very valuable resource. She has been of great assistance in managing the business side of getting this book to publication allowing me to focus on writing it. She has been extremely patient during the process especially during times of stress that I may not have managed as well as I would have liked and strained our relationship. Thank you.

I thank Ms. Cynthia E. Seals, who has demonstrated faithfulness to me without knowing she has done so. She has given her time in reading rough drafts of chapters, giving editorial advice and moral support, and keeping me motivated through completion. She does not know how special or important she is.

I express my gratitude to J.R.M. for his assistance in reference research and positive input throughout the writing process. He worked in a harsh environment, maintained his integrity, and was a positive example for everyone around him.

I thank a small control group of people who read and critiqued the first two chapters. Their input was a valuable tool for me and a motivation because many requested to read more chapters. I thank them for reading the material and apologize to them for not releasing more before the manuscript was completed.

I thank WestBow Press, Jon Lineback, and especially Janine David for their professional assistance. The editorial, illustrative, and marketing expertise has allowed me to present a professionally done book to the world. They have been patient with me in my ignorance of the process and have made themselves available to answer all my questions and give me their valuable counsel. I thank them for educating me in book publishing.

I also thank all who read this book. I pray that God will allow them to see the power and extent of the effects of devilution and give them wisdom to apply what they learn and begin to be blessed with greater abundant-life living no matter their circumstances.

    INTRODUCTION

O ur Creator tells us our hearts are desperately wicked and beyond healing. Satan preys on humanity’s sick, dark heart with his deceit. Science promotes evolution and declares the evolving of humanity’s physical state to a higher, better position.

For the sake of argument, humanity was created a dichotomy—a spiritual and a physical vessel. Neither can be separated from or explained without the other. Things in our physical existence are manifested from the spiritual, and the spiritual is affected by the physical.

The theory of devilution explains the state of humanity more clearly from a theological perspective. It reveals that our physical state has devolved rather than evolved as we would like to think, and our spiritual state has devolved as well. God tells us there are more on the road to destruction—devolution—than there are on the straight and narrow path—true evolution. Devilution is the cause of the devolved state of humanity, and the theory of devilution addresses this fact.

While studying for my doctorate in Christian counseling, I gave much thought to the emotional, psychological, and spiritual afflictions that plague humanity. Some of what I studied referenced maladies that ranged from abuse of all types to workaholism. Though these textbooks referenced up to forty problem areas, there is no limit to the devastations that can destroy human lives and relationships.

I began to give serious consideration to the number of emotional, psychological, and spiritual hurts I could identify affecting my life and realized that the true state of humanity has devolved rather than evolved. The theory of evolution has been around only since the nineteenth century. Humanity and much of the church has accepted evolution as gospel. Many believe that our species has evolved from lesser species exponentially.

The theory of devilution identifies the deceit of evolution and the fact that humanity has devolved. Chapter 1 establishes the preposterous exaggerations of evolution—no one has ever witnessed a species mutate into a higher, evolved species. Though DNA is similar for all organic material because all elements are the same just in different concentrations, this is not evidence that one species evolved from another. If that were true, some lesser species would not exist any longer according to science, which believes in random mutations and the survival of the fittest.

Chapter 2 defines and establishes the basis for the theory of devilution. First, we define devilution as the interjection of Satan’s philosophies, ideologies, and rebellion into God’s creation including the affairs of humankind and the distortion of God’s truth.

By establishing the true intended state of humanity from the beginning of creation, we can identify where the state of humanity began to devolve. Through the inevitability of entropy, humanity has steadily devolved and will continue to do so until Jesus returns and intervenes. It is on the individual level that change will manifest itself, and the theory of devilution reveals some of the more difficult areas of human existence in which we all can use some help.

Chapter 3 discusses humanity’s obfuscated thinking. Devilution has caused confusion, disorientation, and chaos and has affected every relationship associated with humanity. By keeping humanity confused and disoriented through the chaos of emotional, psychological, and spiritual warfare, Satan subtly disguises his lies with a little truth and deceives the multitudes. The theory of devilution attempts to educate readers with undeniable and evident truths.

Chapter 4 shows how the confusion associated with devilution has thrown all creation out of balance. Starting with the church and family and then government and politics, salary structures, the judicial system, and education, we see how out of balance things that affect society have devolved. Satan has yoked confusion and being out of balance to accomplish humanity’s disoriented state.

The synergy created by confusion and disorientation can drive many to experience crises of faith as addressed in chapter 5. Once devilution causes people to lose faith in God, it is as if they have lost their first line of defense; attacks come more frequently with more success, and that leads to hopelessness and despondency.

Chapters 6 and 7 illuminate truths about anger and inappropriate anger management as well as abuse and neglect, and Chapter 8 addresses addictions. If we are honest, we will all admit to an addiction whether chemical, psychological, or physical. At some point, we have all felt there was something we could not do without. Devilution may distort our opinions of ourselves, and that is one major victory for Satan because it makes us think more highly of ourselves than we ought. A major step in conquering any addiction is admitting to the addiction.

Chapters 9 and 10 discuss marriage and marriage counseling, and chapter 11 looks more deeply into the eighth commandment—Thou shalt not commit adultery.

As I wrote this book, I came to realize everything about humanity revolved around relationships. Though this book is not intended to be a self-help book for relating, it will offer greater insight, wisdom, and understanding if readers maintain the thought of relationships as they read this book.

One great precaution must be understood about this book—it is not attempting to be politically correct in any way. The primary goal is to be God correct. If I were trying to please humanity, I would not be a servant of God.

God inspired this book, and it is for His glory in obedience that I have labored so others may be blessed with His truth that will naturally offend those not seeking His truth.

After I established the reality of devilution and its effects on humanity and human nature, chapter 12 establishes the need for qualified and effective Christian counseling. For millennia, godly counsel has been considered effective in healing. It reveals the fact that the church initially administered counseling to emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually wounded people. Devilution has replaced godly counsel predominantly with secular psychology and its promotion of no personal accountability or responsibility. If we as a species and as individuals desire to retard the entropy associated with devilution and possess the promise of abundant-life living, we must apply true, godly, Christian counseling.

The goal of this book is contained in chapter 13, Abundant-Life Living. If we can accept God’s truth, we can overcome and conquer the emotional, psychological, and spiritual weapons devilution aims at us; we can experience and wholeheartedly possess abundant-life living.

Most people are always looking for something better. If you have lived according to the lies and deceit of the devil and are still not satisfied, maybe it is time for something better. Read and discover how to improve your emotional, psychological, and spiritual states in the true sense of the word evolution.

I pray that all who read this book are blessed with greater insight, understanding, and wisdom and apply that introspectively. We cannot effect change in others if we ourselves are not personally and individually transformed in heart, mind, and spirit first. By doing so, we will gain something more valuable than anything we can compare to it.

    CHAPTER 1

    The Theory of Evolution

S ome human doctrines seek to undermine the truthfulness of God’s witness regarding the beginning of creation; they attempt to account for the testimony of creation as performed by Him alone. This is very important to understand: there are three theories that contrast God’s evidence of how creation began and how humanity has progressed through time.

    • the big-bang theory

    • the gap theory

    • the theory of evolution

    The Big-Bang Theory

Science is knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through the scientific method; it is a system of knowledge concerned with the physical world and its phenomena; it is a system or method reconciling practical ends with scientific laws. ¹

Some people find it difficult to believe in something or someone they cannot physically see. Instead of the creation story in Genesis, there has been a secular rendition of creation known as the big-bang theory, a theory in astronomy stating the universe originated billions of years ago in an explosion from a single point of nearly infinite energy density. ² This is described as a cosmic explosion and can be observed from two viewpoints that indicate the falsity of the theory.

First, according to the laws of physical science, it is impossible for an explosion to occur in a vacuum. For an explosion to occur, oxygen is required, but space is described as a vacuum; thus, it has no oxygen. This truth alone dispels the believability of the big-bang theory.

Second, those who believe the Bible is God’s inerrant, holy, and inspired Word know that Jesus is God in human form. Since every word of God proves true, when Jesus as God was confronted in the Garden of Gethsemane, He answered the crowd as they approached Him. Just the power in His words knocked the crowd backward and down. ³

From this observation of power in God’s (Jesus’s) spoken Word, we can deduce with certainty that when God said, Let there be light, from the power of His voice and spoken Word, there was a cosmic, divine explosion that set creation in order. This totally supports creation as depicted in the Bible and dispels the big-bang theory as it is utilized by contemporary science.

"In the beginning, God created …" (emphasis mine). ⁴ These are the first five words God decided to record through Moses, a man of God as inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Hebrew word used for beginning means the following.

    • a time or place; beginning from

    • beginning of the world, first

    • before time (beginning)

    • the first (in place, time, order)

    • sense of opening, commencement, original, first time

Webster’s corroborates this definition as the following.

    • to bring into existence something new

    • to have a starting point

    • to bring into being

    • the point at which something begins, origin

In the creative, spoken words of God, He indicated that this was the first, the original, the point in time when something began. That something is all creation as we know it. There was no antecedent to the universe including earth and humanity prior to this Creation.

    The Gap Theory

Another misleading doctrine is known as the gap theory. Proponents of this theory want to interject an indeterminate amount of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. This part of history as they perceive it is called the ruin-reconstruction version of the gap theory. It is implied that the earth had previously existed with Satan as the ruler and there was a pre-Adamite society in the dateless past. This pre-Adamite society was a race of people without souls who experienced death, bloodshed, disease, and suffering all before Adam sinned.

It is also believed there was a Garden of Eden in which Satan dwelled and was composed of minerals based on Ezekiel 28. Satan then rebelled by desiring to become like God as referenced in Isaiah 14. Because of Satan’s fall, sin entered the universe and brought God’s judgment in the form of a catastrophic flood, which is misinterpreted from the word waters from Genesis 1:2. Then there was a global ice age when light and heat from the sun were somehow removed.

Supposedly, all the plant, animal, and human fossils on earth today date from Lucifer’s flood and do not bear any genetic relationship with the plants, animals, and fossils today. Lucifer’s flood is what left the earth destroyed, without form, and void.

The gap theory was not a doctrine of the early church fathers. Thomas Chalmers (1780–1847), a notable Scottish theologian, was perhaps the person most responsible for the gap theory. ⁶ It did not come into existence until the nineteenth century. This was a significant attempt by Christian theologians to reconcile the time scale of world history in Genesis with the popular belief that geologists provided supposedly undeniable evidence that the world is billions of years old rather than the 6,500 years as accounted for by scripture. Instead of using scripture to interpret scripture, these men with minds clouded by presuppositions and biases decided they had to fit scripture into science rather than fit science into the truth of scripture, God’s infallible, holy Word.

By understanding scripture and using it as a guide, reconciling the history of the Bible and the history of geological time is possible. God tells us that to Him, A day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. ⁷ This gives us a formula for calculating time.

365 days per year multiplied by 6,500 years = 2,372,500 years

    2,372,500 years multiplied by 1,000 years = 2,372,500,000 years

Figure 1: Author’s theory of calculating geological time.

    According to this formula,
