Poetic Dance Across the World In The Key of Gospel Romance, Faith and Love. Poetic Dance Across the World
Is a collection of spiritually uplifting, sometimes life wrenching realities, within, romantic poems, sermons, prayers, prose and essays. All crafted and carefully designed to uplift your soul.
Written primarily to help guide readers and listeners throughout the arduous heart wrenching, confusing political march upon which the entire world appears to have embarked… a quiet and gentle reprieve from those long, dragged out tiring, lonely winter days; to a pause and look toward the brightening, uplifting of our body, mind and souls, as spiritual beings placed within angelical gestures placed upon this earth to help touch the core of our humanity… as we await the spring and dance with joy throughout the summers nights in the park under the sky- filled stars.
Poetic Dance Across the World, Sabas Hernan Flores Whittaker’s new book of poetry, is a spiritual invitation into the world of this widely travelled multi-talented man. This collection of romantic poems, sermons, prayers and essays, is designed primarily as a guide to uplift and inspire. The author, is a poet, historian, composer, graphic artist, painter and a lifelong humanitarian advocate, activist, whom has performed many of these written words contained within, at numerous cultural, literary and academic, conferences, and other functions to benefit homeless causes, domestic violence, Aids benefits, etc… as well as during honors and other celebratory presentations at historic churches colleges and universities.
He has volunteered his creative talent at fundraisers for a vast number of humanitarian efforts throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Sabas, brings to his writings, extensive life experiences as a multi-faceted artist, Merchant Marine, mental health professional, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son.
Poetic Dance, is an invitation to some of the most personal, heart-rending experiences of his travelled, adventurous, artistic, creative, intellectual and spiritual life. Poetically, his words comfort, confronts, and asks questions we all have asked at some point in our lives. In light of the tragic September 11 events, homage is paid in prayers, to all whom have lost their lives and to the families of the heroic first responders, whom placed their lives and gave the ultimate sacrifice; as if being called to duty and those on the home front working for common ground. The content of his new work, reaches every corner of the world and will touch the heart and soul of all whom journeyed upon its pages.
Sabas Hernan Flores Whittaker is a former merchant marine and law enforcement officer, a retired Lead Mental Health Worker, therapist, turned author, composer, artist, stage and screen playwright, lyricist and poet… an artist whom daily follows the art of living well!
Among the author’s other writings Vestiges of a Journey, Tears of Joy Peace and Harmony While the Fire Burns Within, Africans In the Americas Our Journey Throughout the World, Faith in the Field, Songs to Valentines A Song to Love, Canto Al Grito del Emigrante en Voz Latina, (his first book written in the Spanish language). The Minister’s Journey… From A Merchant Marine Perspective
Although perhaps dog tired… the pastor’s stands upright to affront their congregation from the pulpit
As steadfast a grip to grandma’s bible, just as a sailor to the helm, alike an echo upon the open seas. Their bible becomes the rudder by which each day they navigate. Head bowed in prayers… eyes closed shut… hearts and minds wide open. Our soul, faith and spirit no longer adrift!
No longer tied up in the harbor alongside the quiet docks… among the old tired ferries
WW2 freighters, and barnacle bottom of tanker ship hulls, who’d sailed upon the distanced oceans, rivers and lakes so long ago. Thou in fact poised… hence resting at the waterfront beside the pier as if nesting upon a frigate, beneath them lays but pelican lifeless eggs.
Thus, henceforth thou set to face the challenges beneath the deep blue yonder, like the submarine commanders in search of those conniving U-boats… Binoculars, sextant, periscope in hand.
Telegraph pumped fast forward, toward welcoming the aspiring souls to mend
Pastoral care, always a search to tend, as if navigating eyes once closed shut, now again opened through a spiritual guidance reexamined the footsteps of a lost and tired essence of oneself, left in the craters of uplifting prayers risen to the heavens, their souls thus now unbroken.
Hence notwithstanding the imprints of their hands, found stamped upon the tombs of repented sinners still trying to scratch their way back out and reach to the heavens above, as if clamoring to the everlasting in forgiveness for that one last party that sudenly turned into a bacchanal.
These ministers, pastors, reverend, monks, rabbis, imams, padres, priests… spiritual leaders across the board, whom we often found at wedding halls filled with laughter, in hospital rooms, welcoming newborn babies into the world, or praying for the sick, lingering near death… where the echoes now overflows with prayers to provide guidance, counseling, lend an ear. After all its just everyday pastoral care…
We see them again at the baptismal font with beautiful babies dressed up in colorful or whites and crying laughter alike a blessing from their parents… thus congregation now content.
Then back on to the streets to wage protest amidst police brutality epidemic… fight for equality and racism toward social justice for all. There is also free breakfast to be served at the community and frequent social outreach gatherings. As they stand to confront, affront, and thus remind us all that our LGBTQAI brothers and sisters also have rights, which ought to be respected, hence protected.
That we all have the right to live peacefully in safe environments. To implement a social enterprise for our homeless kinship still in need of warmth and a hand-up to extended.
At day’s end, pastor’s arduous battle still wages on. Henceforth there is an obvious weekly sermon to write, staff to supervise and God’s uniquely beautiful church that ought to run, as smooth as a cardinal thus through who’s blessings we often welcome the good angels and saints to help us all remain afloat. So, anchors away, Chief mate! Thus grab steadfast your helm, deckhand… we sail full ahead into the storm quartermaster… straight toward calm waters into the horizon far beyond the rainbow!!!
Persecuted
Every day I feel persecuted
Perhaps it’s simply due to the color of my skin
Though its everyone so perhaps it’s just my accent
Persecuted for my spiritual belief
Persecuted for my fight to end world hunger and world relief…
Persecuted for the way I walk talk and
Simply confront unknown grief
Sometimes I want to stop and shout
Stop and ask them what’s this all about
But I pause and seize the moment
Thought I’d yield and let them by
To enjoy my long awaited
days of wine and roses.
Try ignoring my presence for I appeared happy
A jealousy which just won’t end
Though a brother
You constantly trying to keep me down
I’ll just sit and write
You do not read
Perhaps I can borrow your pen
Memories of September Eleven… Today Sadly Know as 911
Perhaps all of us are asking ourselves today What can we do to help our country and those whom today still mourn the loss of their love ones in the face of this terrible tragedy?
The hallmark of America is our ability to continue to press on in times of adversity and tragedy, with faith and the resolve that out of our challenges will come our triumphs. Our finest triumph is the triumph of the American spirit that leads us individually to step forward with prayers, compassion and assistance, and the courage to volunteer in times of need. Our history is a living testament to this.
September 11th 2001, a national day of tragedy and prayers. This little, though simple piece is my literary contribution to honor the memory of all the men, women and perhaps children whom has fallen during such terrible tragedy. It was supposed to be a quiet day. I was supposed to head to NYC, but the meeting that day was cancelled, so I opted to go to work. On my way to our office, the drive appeared as if the entire nation was in a solemn morn and shock. Of course I worked as a case manager in a state run outpatient psychiatric program. My shift ran from 4:pm to 12:am, and as I arrived, I met my colleague, Peggy in the parking lot, we looked at each other and somehow new that it wasn’t going to be an easy shift.
As we stepped in to the office, we received first shift’s report and they immediately belted out of the door; understandably so, since they’d been there all morning and needed to go check up on their family. Our client consumers began to approach the office for their meds and vital signs. Normally they took their medications and went about their business, though not this day… no not that day, they gathered around, each and everyone, as they arrive. My colleague and I look at each other and realized that we needed to have an emergency meeting to help them debrief and listen to their concerns. Our office was on the bottom level of perhaps an 8 to 10 story building in Meriden, CT and many of our clients were older adults, diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia, living on the upper floors. Their fears and concerns were taken seriously… they were allowed to share their feelings. One of these gentlemen, clearly believed that we, the United States was under attack and that they’d be airplanes flying through all tall buildings. Others threatened to jump out before they burned to death. It was then that I realized we had very little time to be solely therapeutic, but that we needed vivid prayer reinforcement. I asked them that they concentrate on writing out their feelings
