About this ebook

In this Duckhorn's thirteenth published book of poems, she obviously shirks the number thirteen in her title, calling it Twelve plus One. No harm there. She writes her selected poems in six parts where the topics range from alien space crafts, time, heaven and ascension, and much more. Using her trademark knack for phrases in each poem, she is an ever-evolving, free-verse, modern poet. She loves people and wants to share her poems with the world.

    TO BE A POET

To be a poet beyond all doubt

One has to think like one

Grasping the heart of words at hand

And salvage their beat as chum.

One has to orchestrate the band

Whose notes hit high and low

To absorb into the reader’s mind

As if it were a sheet of snow.

To write on such a landscape

May not save the cause to feel

And to draw a parallel line above

Would only become a preacher’s will.

To be a poet beyond all doubt

Needs a ventured personality in tow

A ‘trained seal’ mind of existence

One of which often steals the show.

One may write as ‘hunt and peck’

Or on a cursive writing pad

    When illumination calls their name

    They dispense sincerely glad.

    Yet a serpentine dilemma

    Often besets their uncommon fetch

Of words in highest places mirrored

And one’s inclination seems to catch.

    They trespass in the ozone

Like a mystic on the brink

Then pull you in with gravity

With topics common as a kitchen sink.

    There really is no mystery

    As one’s talking may contort

The poems get up and walk away

To look for God at last resort.
