About this ebook

Notes are fundamental to the making of music, but its not just the notes that fascinate us. We love to learn about the musicians who use them to make great music and entertain us.

Felix Schrodinger and Pyotr Stilovsky have compiled in this, the third volume of the series, a compendium of information that will appeal to all who love music and especially to those who seek out knowledge for its own sake.

    Foreword

Our first book was all about numbers and the second about people and their names; we now present the third in the series. This book contains lists of information about music and the people who make it. They will be most useful to those of a quizzical nature but should be of general interest to all.

Readers should be aware that lists like these are never complete and it’s possible that more than the odd error may have crept in so if you propose to use any of the information contained herein, please remember that it is your own responsibility to verify it before such use.

We have generally stuck with the simplified English alphabet and apologise to those who like their accents, graves and cedillas. Remember – this is not Wikipedia!

Some spelling errors are inevitable in a first edition - if you notice any or omissions we would be most grateful if you would notify them to us at our website which can be found at: https://felixschrodinger.wordpress.com/2015/02/04/using-these-pages/

    Banned by the Beeb

These are some of the records banned by the BBC and, as there is no official list it has to be somewhat subjective – either way they don’t admit that they’re banned. Many other records have been banned in other countries and for a short time e.g. during the Gulf War.

There are reputedly no banned records after this – but many are simply not played.

    Beatles Albums

There are many more compilation albums since the original albums.

Hey Jude, Paperback writer and Lady Madonna appear on the US released 1970 LP ‘Hey Jude’ along with Can’t buy me love et al.

Best Selling Singles in the UK

Some years have more than one title listed as the chart makers (mainly New Musical Express and Melody Maker) did not have robust systems in place and disagreed between themselves as to which was the best-seller.
