Which Is Your Garden?
38401.pngRemember your first job? How overwhelming it can seem having to learn something new to you, or having to apply what you know to a completely different set of circumstances? Education is a vital part of any job. Sometimes it comes in a classroom, other times through life experiences. Sometimes the two work together to teach you even more.
Gardening was the first job ever given to man. His assignment was to fill the earth and subdue it.
He was the caretaker of Eden. We don’t know how he learned how to tend it. We don’t know how long he took care of it before he had to leave. And when he was evicted, he was told that he would have to eat what he planted and grew himself and deal with weeds that we presume had heretofore not existed.
It has been my experience that God does nothing that he doesn’t expect one to learn from. It would then stand to reason that there is great wisdom to be harvested from the act of gardening, so I decided to see what I could glean. Let’s start with a list of gardening terms, then see what the Bible has to say about them.
Genesis 2:15-The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Genesis 3:17-18-To Adam he said Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must no eat from it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.
