YOU ARE BORN FOR A PURPOSE
God does everything with purpose. Looking at the world, its fullness, and its good and bad sides, you are likely to have wondered why certain things exist or are allowed to happen in the first place.
Human beings tend to think that only the things that directly serve their purpose should have been created by God; or that God should have made it in such a way that life in this world is full of good experiences only. We sometimes fail to realize that God created so many different things and scenarios to serve many different purposes. For instance, among creatures, there are ugly and beautiful insects; poisonous and non-poisonous snakes; trees that grow in thick forest and others that grow in deserts or in the tundra; etc. Even the Sun rises every day, while the Moon appears only once every month. For every one of these things, God has a purpose.
Everything in life has some contrast with one another. Among the human races, there are differences in cultures, colors and statures. It may not be readily obvious why some of these things are made the way they are until we begin to understand God’s purpose for everything. Confusion and problems begin where God’s purpose for something is not understood. Take for instance the concepts of food chain and food web as taught in elementary science. It gives us an insight into the fact that God does nothing without a purpose.
In a food chain for example, the Sun provides food for the plants. The grasshopper eats the plants. The frog eats the grasshopper, and the snake eats the frog. The snake itself is eaten by birds like the hawk. In the straight line arrangement of life, one of the purposes of God is to show interdependence in the things He created.
There is no one thing in creation that exists in isolation. Through the divine purpose for its creation, there is something everything is meant to serve to keep the cycle of life going. Where the purpose of something is not known, there is a break in that cycle and the result is chaos. The reason there is trouble, chaos and redundancy among men is failure to understand God’s purpose for life, which culminates in man’s inability to fit perfectly into the cycle of life or function effectively.
The food web is more complex than the food chain. Its interdependence and life interactions are more dynamic and compounded. In this arrangement, you find one thing serving more than one purpose.
Take for instance, the Sun produces energy for trees to make their food. The trees produce leaves, fruits and flowers that attract birds, insects, mice and other animals. Where mice and other animals are found, snakes and some bigger animals find their food. Tree flowers and the insects that gather around them attract large number of birds which feed on them. Flesh eating birds and animals like the hawks, owls and foxes are drawn to snakes and mice for food.
The beauty of a food web is its interconnectivity. If one part is removed, it can affect the whole system. Like the spider’s web, food web shows how life is connected in many ways and parts to form a complete cycle. Unlike in a food chain arrangement where each player has a straight line function, players in a food web serve more than one function in the system.
Environmental scientists say that mere cutting of grass around houses; or a more serious issue such as deforestation affects the system of life around us. Similarly, in human cycle of life, tampering with a part, department, group or some individuals have a way of affecting the entire system either for good or bad.
Discover Your Purpose
One of the things you must endeavor to know is God's purpose for your life. You are born for a purpose. You are a product of divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding. God does not do anything arbitrarily. In everything He does, He is known for clear cut purposes. He knows where He is heading before He sets out on any course. Even for those things or people you think are bad, there is a purpose they serve in the cycle of life. Each purpose of God is known to Him from the beginning.
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
– Acts 15: 18
The Bible says God's purposes are known to Him. This is so comforting to know. We have problems with God and with ourselves because we don't know what He knows about us. Another reason we have problems is that we don't create enough time to seek His purpose for our lives.
Since the fall of man, the tendency for self-rule has been part of every natural man. We rely on our human assessment and understanding of ourselves, and determine what we think should be the purpose for our living. Self- reliance, not seeking God's purpose, just passing through life or accepting everything that comes in good faith is an attitude that hinders man from the glorious purpose for which God created him.
God's purposes are known to Him and He is willing to make them known to those who seek His face. When dealing with God, you cannot rely on your understanding as the Bible says. You must seek Him and totally surrender to Him to know His purpose for your life.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
– Proverbs 3: 5
No matter how you feel about yourself, God has a purpose for sending you into this world. He has a purpose for every child that is born not minding where or how the child was born. Nobody was born by accident. God made this clear to Jeremiah when He said:
... Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou earnest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
– Jeremiah 1: 4-5
God’s words unto Jeremiah are proof that His purpose for us is not an after-thought. He had thought it out ever before creating us. It tells us that even though He has all power, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to do anything, He does nothing without a purpose. There is a purpose attached to your life: find it.
