    Ruggedized Prayers - Faith Ikekhide

    book.

    Chapter 1

    Prayer Unlock Doors

    Revelation:

    My spiritual mother, a sister and I got to a door that opens to and locks out one. It's a single entry door just like the ones in airports or train stations.

    The sister that was with us could not enter due to lack of suitable ticket. She ended up peeping through the glass window which was not transparent enough for her to check on us.

    My spiritual mother and I got in, changed our wears and sat down eating the snacks prepared by the locked-out sister.

    In the first place, to be ruggedized in the place of prayer, there is need for the right association. Association determines assimilation in the school of prayer. Friends can either make or mar your life. A wise man said; show me your friends and I will tell you who you are, birds of the same feather flock together. You cannot be termed a saint when you are a partner to a robber. The company you keep determines what accompanies you.

    There are different levels of association to which one is connected, the first and most important is a father or mother figure. A spiritual parent is of great significance to the DNA of a man in the place of prayer. You cannot give what you don't have.

    The one you watch and study over time is more likely the one you resemble. If your father in the Lord is a man of prayer, it will be imparted on you. In the body of Christ, we have discovered that 'parental influence' makes great impact in the lives of 'children'. A notable example can be seen in the book of Acts 4:13;

    Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled and they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus.

    The chapter preceding this Scripture clearly referred to the miracle that took place during the hour of prayer, which attracted the people, priests, captain of the temple and the Sadducees.

    The hour was what attracted the rugged miracle because the atmosphere was intense and concentrated with the power of the Holy Ghost. This leads to the first definition of ruggedized prayer:

    Ruggedized prayer is the prayer in which the atmosphere is intensely condensed with the power of the Holy Spirit, ready to explode. It is like a time bomb. There is a prayer tempo that makes power available.

    Peter and John and other disciples of Jesus were not elites but the well-articulated message, the pattern of prayer and the acts of fellowship with themselves was after the order of Jesus Christ. Little wonder those around were able to deduce that they had been with Jesus!

    In contemporary times, when one prays, we can easily identify the source of the prayer pattern.

    For example, if any genuine follower, whether past or present, of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry being fathered by W. F. Kumuyi happens to pray or teach the Word, you will see the finger and the handwriting on the wall.

    In the Bible for instance, Elisha received the spirit of Elijah. The sons of the prophets declared that Elisha was a replica of Elijah. Benny Hinn's ministry has a semblance with that of Kathryn Kulhman's and many others like that.

    The ‘prayee’ is in control of power. Anything gets done, no matter how difficult or the duration. Jesus, our perfect role model, had a Father who indisputably remains 'The Father of all fathers'. It is written:

    My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. John 5:17.

    And in verse 19 of the same chapter, He said;

    … Verily, verily, I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth the Father do; for what things soever He doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

    All He did was to watch His heavenly Father and follow suit. It is implied therefore that all one needs to do is to observe you and it will be revealed whose son you are.

    By the fruit, you shall know the parent tree. Jesus said to His disciples, How can ye be with Me and you are still asking Me to show you the Father? Seeing Me, ye have seen My Father. Here, after ministering, people can even tell who you operate like. Even the business of the earthly father of Jesus was adopted by Him as seen in Mark 6:3, Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Mary, the brother of James?  ...

    He followed His earthly father to a point that He was referred to as the carpenter because He was well known in the business.

    Prayer is a spiritual business transaction that produces profits and its dividends are lasting. It is widely said, like father, like son. Often, children improve on what they learn from their parents. Jesus also told the disciples in confidence:

    "Verily, verily I say unto you, he that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto My Father.

    And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in My name, I will do it." John 14:12-14.

    What more shall we say? History has it that John Knox prayed, Lord, give me Scotland or I die.

    In His generation, the monarch of Scotland expressed openly that one of her fears was the prayer of John Knox.

    What a rugged prayer platform that even a queen who ruled the land feared! To the Scottish monarch then, the fear of John Knox's prayer was the beginning of wisdom.

    There is a realm of prayer that makes you a mobile prayer altar and converts you into a commander who rulers and authorities fear and tremble at. You ride on the wings of such prayers to stand before kings and not before mean men.

    Ruggedized prayer is the kind of communion with Heaven that angels accompany and carry one to a place or position that others find difficult to access.

    In the book of Daniel, it is recorded that Daniel stood before Nebuchadnezzar the king, Belshazzar the son and successor of Nebuchadnezzar, Darius and Cyrus, kings of Persia.

    The force that pushed him to limelight despite being a captive was the force of prayer. Rugged prayer is a force that catapults one from behind into becoming a front-liner.

    It involves a continuous resistance to distraction and detractors. A decree was signed that carried a death warrant as a consequence but see what brother Daniel did: Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem; he kneeled upon his knees, three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he did aforetime. Daniel 6:10. What an undeniable, unshakeable, unkillable faith in God. Job puts it this way;

    Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him; but I will maintain mine own ways before Him. Job 13:15

    Again we see that faith in Daniel 3:16-18, …But if not, be it known unto thee, O king that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

    Unbowable faith and absolute trust in God.Resilient in nature. The good thing is that God is that same God. In ruggedity, there is an environment you create or step into that urges you to pray without restriction.

    You may not really have a general prayer request but you enter into a place of spiritual growth. Energy, stamina and spiritual muscles are developed in order to withstand trials and temptations.

    John Fletcher was said to have prayed until his breath formed his image on the wall. James, the brother of Jesus prayed until his knee cap looked like that of a horse. Wow! It is time to get on board and rock the flight of rugged prayer by selecting the right plane where men of prayer are boarding.

    The second group is like unto the first but with a slight difference. In spiritual parenting there would be a physical connection between the father and son but in the case of a mentor, there may not be any form of physical contact. You may adopt his ways and patterns by watching, observing and reading literal works of the fellow.

    A mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person. A mentor can be seen as a coach. To avoid ‘cockroaches’, you need a coach. Who you follow determines what follows you. This is enjoyable via humility.

    The influences on your life determine the impact or outcome of your life. You cannot end at the right destination when you are involved in wrong association which can expose you to negative influences. Your future can be determined by your friends.

    One wrong advice can destroy your life forever and a wrong counsel can cancel one's glorious destiny. Beware who you give your ears to because the words you hear could take your heart, then your life. Fire happens when firewood gathers. The Bible says; iron sharpeneth iron. Anyone not going in your direction is not worthy of your association. Carefully make a choice of your prayer partner. Define the purpose of your partnership.

    If a rugged prayer lifestyle is your target, then there is need for a careful choice of partner. A prayer partner is one that you spend most of your time with in the place of prayer.

    Daniel carefully selected his three friends and together they fired up prayers until they began to wear spiritual fireproof and lion-proof garments. (Daniel 2:17). The Bible says;

    Iron shrapeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

    Even when the two partners are not of the same spiritual status, as long as they hold hands together in agreement, Heaven will confirm the word of truth in their midst.

    Can two walk together except they be agreed? Amos 3:3.

    Again I say unto you that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in Heaven. Matthew 18:29

    Two faith-filled people can ignite great fire for exploits. Your association determines your destination. All that is needed is for you to have a good and a consistent prayer partner. The Bible says the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man avails much. The coming together of two righteous people to pray will surely yield great results.

    Another important person or persons that can help you quicken the spirit of prayer or ruggedize your prayer life is your protégé.

    Since you know that there are certain persons looking up to you, you will want to be a good example and there is no other way by which this can be achieved than to be a prayerful person because you cannot give what you don't have. Knowing fully well that you want to impact the next generation, your life will have to be a living epistle.

    Many don't read the Bible anymore but read people's lives. Like Apostle Paul said, we are living epistles.

    Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.  2 Corinthians 3:3

    And at times people you don't know will come up to you to tell you they love your lifestyle and have been watching you.

    These are pointers to the fact that there are people watching you and looking up to you. Therefore, there is need for you to give attention to your prayer life not necessarily because you need something from God but to keep your prayer life on fire and not to die like a chicken.

    Another group that can catapult you to the top in prayers are enemies of light. For example, powers that be, people that hates you and can go as far as consulting negative forces that can cast spells upon you and also trigger negative ancestral influences, etc. All these persons and personalities are catalysts and motivators to make you a person of rugged prayers.

    An empty child of God cannot face these powers; it takes prayers to put your enemies in their place, which is under your feet.

    In the book of Numbers 23, Balak consulted Balaam to curse the children of Israel even though they did not offend him; and their God, who is mighty to save and who answers prayers, turned the curse into a blessing.

    Behold I have received the commandment to bless and they are blessed and I cannot reverse it. Numbers 23:7

    Prayer is calling on God to intervene in your affairs, whether known or unknown. Even in the ignorance of the Israelites, the Lord fought for them. Prayer works any day, any time.

    Therefore, there is a need for you to be soaked in prayers and be on fire for God so that your adversaries will not take you by surprise and God will be there to defend you.

    If you are not a heavy-duty prayer person, your destiny is in question. To fulfill destiny, you need to be fervent in the place of prayer. Many lives and destinies have been cut short due to prayerlessness; yours will not be cut short.

    Psalms 124:1-3 indicates that "Without God on your side when men rise up against you, they would swallow
