Dr. Sasie
Dr. SASIE is a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, who gives all glory, honor, and praise to Him. Although always a believer, she did not always understand the value and the vital necessity to having a personal and intimate relationship with the Lord. As a child and young teenager, she often fondly thought of Jesus Christ as more like a history lesson based on her upbringing in the Lutheran faith and attendance of parochial school through middle school, where she was exposed to the doctrines and beliefs according to the Bible and the triune God, which was the focus of daily religion class at her Lutheran school she attended and participated in for the majority of every Wednesday morning. That is where she received more in-depth teachings and later was confirmed under the Lutheran faith at the age of thirteen. Dr. SASIE first gave her life to Jesus Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior at the age of nineteen, shortly before having heart surgery. Just as others have, Dr. SASIE experienced a series of life-changing experiences and circumstances that left her feeling slightly lost, disappointed, and like although the scriptures states “never will He leave us nor forsake us” that He had left and forsaken her at a time she needed Him most, thus the decision to further study the Bible independently as if it were her research topic similar yet different to her dissertation work completed in education because she knew that if God had helped her be successful at turning around schools, student’s choices, and their academic achievement, that surely He could help her turn around the unusual back-to-back crisis’s and challenges she suddenly faced despite her dependence solely on God, and as a result, a book series and a business came to fruition despite her realization what the future journey had in store. Initially, Dr. SASIE didn’t think she could make it, but later came to the realization that God allowed her to live through it, survive it, and began to flourish through the small beginnings because He already knew she could handle it. When life no longer made sense, she spent even more time in the presence of God and sought His face and their relationship grew and grew. Through this journey, the Lord taught her how to not only survive the devastation, but to thrive and then help others do the same. Dr. SASIE made a promise to God that one day she would share some of her experiences and tell everyone she could, and everywhere she went, that God is real, and able to do the unthinkable and impossible no matter what the trial, circumstance, or challenge, we find ourselves in or approaching in life. Dr. SASIE is a yielded vessel to God who has given her life, time, skills, talents, and gifts to Him, to use as He sees fit. She knew at the age of five that she would one day be a teacher. She now knows that even then, the Lord had a calling on her life and knows that the good work He started in her, He was already bringing to fruition. While she thought teaching was the end, He had so much more in store to become an educational leader for the majority of her nearly twenty-year career.

Foreword
While traveling in a vehicle in the driver’s seat, we often glance back in our rearview mirror and see what we have passed along the way. What we see may be pleasant or not so pleasant. It could be boring, intriguing or even just the same usual things we pass on any road trip. One thing remains true about any trip as we go forward: whatever was once in close proximity, as we pass it, we distance ourselves from the things that once were. The rearview mirror will allow us to see those things for a while as we glance in the mirror, but as we journey forward, what is behind us becomes smaller—less recognizable—and eventually cannot be seen any longer. There may be a time when something we passed is of great interest, and we look for it again on our journey, or we feel like we missed something. There are other things that we pass, and we are thankful they no longer are present, and are only a memory of what once was.
What I have learned is that our lives are the same. We all have memories of things from the past, of how they used to be, and how they once were. Some of it is good, others bad, others we miss, and other things we want to forget. Some things survive the journey and others fade away, like the small objects in the rearview mirror. Despite how good or bad they may or may have not been, sometimes, certain things or people are not meant to continue the journey with us but remain just that—something from the past or a simple memory. The nice thing is that the things, experiences, and events, as well as associations from the past, can help prepare us for things ahead and not take from nor add to any of the aforementioned, but remains as something once shared along the journey.
We can spend too much time, effort and attention trying to revive the things of the past, understand the things of the past, fight for things of the past, or we can trust that something equal or greater is ahead. What needs to survive and be a part of our future, we already have within us, as well as what is already accessible to us or will be provided as we move forward. But pulling the past of what was into the journey forward will delay our trip, slow our travels, and give us unnecessary baggage when we arrive at our new destination; we will still try to live based on what once was, instead of what is, and may also be reflect something similar to Matthew 9 of trying to pour new wine into old wineskins.
In our lives, friends and family, and complete strangers may focus more on our past, of who we once were and what we once did—be it good or bad. We become too focused on that and never look at where we are or enjoy who we are now. What we are doing now, or what we once did, accomplished, survived, or lived through has made us who we are now. I know this to be true because I too once focused more on the history of myself—what I had and what I once was or what I once did—and allowed it to keep me in a state of paralysis, not traveling or making any progress in life. Now, I realize it was just a time of transition and solidifying lessons previously learned as it applies to this crossroads in my life as to not remain too focused on what was, or what I had already done, obtained, achieved or pursued and how all that was supposed to make my traveling forward easier. The transition brought me to realize that the most important component
I needed now was to develop yet an even closer and more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. We may often begin to notice as I did, there are many signs that times have changed significantly quickly and for us to remain prepared and abreast of all that is still to come, I must always realize that God is with me as stated in Hebrews 13:5.
I know that life brings setbacks, obstacles, closed doors, trials, missed opportunities, enemies, adversities, challenges and calamities—some of which are foreseen and some totally unexpected. Some we may have believed we earned or even deserved, and others quite the contrary. This is the time when we can’t continue to wallow in the things of our past. If we are going to visit the rearview mirror of what was, we must use it to catapult our learning and move forward in our journey. The past is like any other history lesson. It is something that once occurred and can be used as a reference in time, with memories of the right, wrong, good, bad, happy, or sad. What can we learn? What can we improve? What survived? And most importantly, how are we going to move forward and do things differently now?
When I personally arrived at a crossroads, I found myself stuck in the memories of what once was and the pain that remained. I utilized a visit to my rearview mirror of life as a learning opportunity to identify my baggage and deal with what I found that was complicating my ability to move forward that was within me
. I realized that moving forward was not contingent upon what I saw or heard, and or what had initially flawed my thoughts, but more to do with what I could fix within me and most importantly, what I could also pray about and trust God to reveal, heal, renew and or fix within me.
Flawed thoughts and or outlooks for me it seemed, at times related to location and those whom I was around that continued to sow seeds of discord or negativity and that, I knew, was not what I needed to feed myself. Unpacking the baggage may be tiring and debilitating when it contains many memories from early on and up to now, yet it is necessary so we can free our mind and once again regain our strength, motivation, and faith, and keep our eyes focused on what is important— a personal relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and trusting/welcoming the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
At the end of the book series, I share a glance in my rearview mirror of life and share a brief segment of time, or a chapter in my life, over a two-year time period, which caused me so much grief, and at times feelings of shame or guilt and even more pain. Despite trying to move forward, initially I couldn’t help but think about what once was. Who I once was. What I once did. What I once had. I spent so much time trying to understand, revive, and still be the person I thought I was supposed to be while life continued to go on. I finally realized life was moving on. Time had moved on. Who I once was, was no longer. What I once did, was no longer. And what I once had, was no longer. But what I can be awaits, which is how this book series, Journey
