About this ebook

Do you ever wonder why? Why we are here? Whether we are the product of coincidence or creation? Have you ever probed your mind to examine lifes purpose and your own, seeing both in yourself and in the world the signs of being purposefully and wonderfully made?

In Compendium, author Pamela Rose invites you to join her on the path of her own continuing journey through lifes valleys and mountain peaksa journey that took her across the swamps and desert wastelands of some of lifes darkest moments to the highest reaches possible. From drowning in her own complacency and stubbornness, Pamela learned how to reach out to God for lifesaving guidance, and in Compendium she speaks from the heart in the hopes that we see and hear its positivity and challenge our own complacency.

We are indeed created and of an impeccable design, and we are each unique. With God, we have eternity sewn into our hearts, and we belong. Compendium is a plea from the heart for the heart, and it is for you.

    INTRODUCTION

Can I ask you to journey with me?

Open the very eyes of your heart.

    Meditate upon your essence why.

Ponder the significance of identity, and

    Entertain the possibility of eternity?

Now turn from this page; look up.

    Deliberate both heaven and hell,

    Inextricably woven into your soul,

Ultimately assigned to His will’s choice and

Measured by the depth of the nails borne for you.

Compendium is not offered as an authority on heaven or hell, right or wrong, ought or ought not, but rather as a question mark over the complacent attitudes found in life’s alleyways—however they may touch or ultimately define us. Complacency wears multiple masks, and it masks manifold truths. It is all pervasive and indiscriminately takes many, many captives. And who are these captives? The affluent poor! Yes, you, me, mankind! And how are we captured? Through complacent living, complacent thinking, neatly woven into our many and varied lives—disguised, of course, but always detectable, if you really want to see the complacent deception that chokes.

Let me be frank right out of the starting block. If you believe that death is the end, then complacency will simply be a word packed with irrelevance, and this book may signify ambivalence at best or utter nonsense at least. And if God does not exist in your mind, then the word captive will have little relevance to you. But if you do understand and know that God exists (or you are willing to consider that, at least), then the terms complacency, affluent poor, and captive will take on new meaning. If physical death ushers man into new living or eternity, then making the right choices and decisions is now indeed critical.

This Compendium was conceived in March 2007 and written through the ensuing years. Now, in 2017, it has been given life. Why so long in the making? Well, He knows! I am merely the ‘pen. Revealed truths are scattered throughout these pages, each bearing witness to experience a now timely proclamation. This is written for you to embrace quickly as the grave is greedy and time marches mercilessly on. It is time to choose! Don’t delay any longer. It is quite simply a matter of life or death! Jesus is coming back, like a thief in the night, and that’s a promise!

May I say that when you write a book for the first time at the ripe old age of fifty-three, you do ponder its purpose and significance. You start to believe the lie all over again—that no one is interested in you, your story, your witness; after all, who is Pamela Rose? You are not the C. S. Lewis or J. R. R. Tolkien of old, but Pamela Rose from the earth’s bounty, striding confidently toward the magnificent horizon that now awaits, but once a blot on the landscape and a blur of the eye.

An unknown in today’s palladium, but with auditions complete, I march forward to Hollywood, heavenward, and nothing is going to stop me! Shaken but not stirred; I was drawn and made that choice!

Life’s journey has taken me across many terrains, some more rugged than others, but all of my own choosing. My agenda seems to have been firmly established from the year dot—to look out for number one; after all, you only have one time around, don’t you? Well, that’s what we teach!

I limped and stumbled from one heartache to the next, from one deception to another, always oblivious to the real perpetrator and never even willing to discover the awesome Creator’s offer of life. I just didn’t see it! I didn’t understand it and never knew that for every day I lived under the enemy’s wing, I was being seduced and was teetering upon the disguised precipice of eternal death. All the while, eternal life was but a whisper away!

I was living as I had been taught to see the world, with its rich diversity, but I was also drowning. In what, you may ask? I was drowning in my own complacency, my own strength, my own hard heart, my own way of doing things, and my own self-assurance. I was drowning alive as lifejackets floated quietly past, offering rescue and future refuge. But I always ignored and rejected them, for my focus was only on channel Pamela.

So, today I introduce myself as God reveals and as I obey. I do not know how my earthly story unfolds or the voyages I will take before my numbered days expire. What I do know is that I know that I know that I know! God is.

I am here to stir your hearts, to shake and provoke you into action. Some things cannot be shaken, but you can! The scripture tells us so! I know I am going home, and I am in preparation for the destination. Whatever route you decide to take along the Via Jesus, just do it and go! There is a stopwatch ticking, and it is imperative that you make your start. Your earthly future is not for you to claim, but your eternity certainly is! Time, as we understand it, is on a thin line, and as each second expires, we expire into our choices. Have you chosen hope or hopelessness? One beholds a Creator; the other, a destroyer. You have a will, and the donor respects its breadth, depth, width, and length. You are being drawn. Feel the pull. Make the right choice, and let hope be your companion. There is nothing under the sun that has not already been enacted, so stop living as a museum, bury those bully memories, and step outside into the light and live! He is but a glance away.

Woe is me, Macbeth hollered as he realized the folly of his ways and absorbed the horrible truth of his choices. So too I now holler, Woe to us mankind, if we do not understand that the author of life is patiently waiting the arrival of His cast to enact the final scene!

Are you ready, willing, and able to declare: Here I am at last! Sorry it has taken me so long. I was on the wrong road, heading in the opposite direction. Thanks for the prompt! Thanks for your map, and thanks for waiting for me.

Be shaken, and get moving. He waits. You’re in the cast!

    CHAPTER 1

    YOUR LIFE IN MY HANDS

I was born again in the wee hours of Friday, March 3, 2007, on a ranch in Hunt, Texas. And I was spoken to in an audible and loud voice on Saturday, March 4, 2007, at around 2:00 p.m. while standing next to the Guadalupe River. I was spoken to by birds who somehow uttered, Hear it now. Hear it now. Hear it now. I cannot adequately describe my reaction, emotions, or frame of mind then, but the event was life changing. Birds don’t talk, and I was not (and am not) crazy! And before a reader or two murmurs, Yes, she’s crazy, I need to state that faith is crazy. Noah can tell you all about that, as can Moses, Abraham, and a host of others. But for now, know that I heard what I heard and experienced what I experienced.

The first five poems in this compendium recall those moments as I journeyed unwillingly to an unknown destination aboard a strange bus on Thursday, March 2, 2007. They
