About this ebook

This book is inspired by actual events or a true story about a woman who was swept off her feet by a man she thought was her prince charming and she was looking to spend the rest of her life with. Nevertheless, the man she dreamed of marrying turned out to be the man of her darkest dreams. This man was so humble but was full of dark secrets and lies. His background was so haunting it would give you chills when you read about his most hidden secrets and lies. But of course, all the red flags were being revealed, slowly but surely. This man was her friend, lover, partner, and most of all, her husband.

Looking for the Man, I Thought I Married was written to inform others about domestic violence and the warning signs about this senseless behavior and convince them to speak out before they become a victim.

    I

dedicate my book to all women and men all over the world who have been victims of domestic violence, abused by the person they expected to love and protect them—whether it was a spouse or someone they were dating. There have been so many people whose lives were affected or changed forever. There are some ladies I knew personally whose lives ended at the hands of their abuser. This book is dedicated to them.

Be a survivor, not a victim.

    Love does not hurt.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

On this day around 5:30 p.m., I was headed to the gym to work out. I ran across this man—tall, brown skinned, short haircut, and wearing work boots on. He approached me and asked, soft-spoken, Are you married or do you have a boyfriend?

I replied, Why? I am not interested in you because you can’t talk no louder than this. Don’t ask me no question. I was blushing while I made the comments, but of course, I gave him my number.

A couple of days went by, and I waited for him to call. When he did, he stuttered like he was trying to make something up for the reason he didn’t call. I explained, You don’t owe me an explanation. I don’t even know you. It’s okay.

We spoke on the phone a couple of times and decided to go on a date. On the date we were supposed to have gone out, he stood
