The Big Move
I never thought love would end up to be a part of me. I live in Milwaukee. I am six foot four inches and weigh a hundred pounds with ninety extra pounds of muscle. I am half Puerto Rican and half black. I have a light skin complexion with fuzzy soft hair, but don’t judge by appearance, because every fight I fought, I won.
Travis, wake up! It’s time for breakfast.
She cooked my favorite meal: pancakes with scrambled eggs and franks.
Mmm… Thanks, Mommy. This is good.
You’re welcome,
she said.
Travis, I should have told you this earlier, but we’re going to be moving soon.
Why, Ma? I was just getting used to this house. Why do we always end up moving?
I’m sorry, honey, but you know I have to pay bills, and I can’t stick around anymore because of the rent,
she said.
After I found out I was moving, I was very upset but what could I do? Life moves on.
Ring, ring, ring!
Who this? Oh, Lucky? Oh, waddup? What you doing? Word. And nothing. Just tight. I’m moving and switching schools,
I said.
Nigga’s always moving.
Word. So what’s with the singing lesson so far?
I said.
Lucky Charms never had dreams of being a singer until a guy came up to him and told him he should be a singer.
Hey.
Do I know you?
Excuse me, let me introduce myself. I own a studio and spend most of my time looking for singers and finally found what I am looking for.
But I don’t know how to sing.
It doesn’t matter. You could learn how to sing, and besides, think about the girls you going to get.
Lucky laughed. Fuck’s wit you, bro,
said Lucky.
So, here is my card. Call me if you are serious about this.
Aight, I got you,
said Lucky.
Yo, Travis, I got weed,
said Lucky.
What kind?
I said.
Kush,
said Lucky. I’m coming over with some bitches.
OK, bring Amy,
I said.
Aight,
