This book came to be because of the cheerleader enthusiasm, the artistic eye, the unrelenting encouragement, the proofing reading ability, and the guidance of these special people: Suzy Telford, D’Ann Gunn, Fleta Edwards, Dr. Helen DeBevoise, Dr. Caroline Brown, Aileen Henderson, and Carolyn Ezell. Thank you.
Thanks, too, to Charles Edwards, Ann Weston, and the staff of Capstone Village who helped me navigate in the computer world.
Introduction
Dear Reader,
From my lofty age of 85 I find the decade of the eighties presenting some unique challenges I did not face in the teen years, middle years, or even retirement years. My body is different (demanding more maintenance, more care), my thinking is different (short term getting shorter, recalling people’s names getting harder), and my social patterns are different (energy and hearing levels make being in large gatherings uncomfortable). Therefore, smaller groups of friends are my community of choice.
