About this ebook

Have you felt cast down?

Have you ever felt like life is a constant battle?

In Broken but Not Crushed, author Clive Clarke makes the bold assertion that no matter how far you have fallen, no matter how far you have sunk in life, if you just get up and continue walking, you will make it back to the top.

He suggests the type of mind-set you should try to possess and guard in order to get there. Its what some would call The Winning Mind-set. In this mind-set, one demonstrates the courage to believe that anything is possible when one sets his or her mind on achieving it.

He also suggests that you should have and embrace an invincible determination to let nothing deter you from your goals and dreams in life.

By embracing this kind of mind-set, Clive asserts that you will cope with and overcome all odds faced in life.

As he purports, life is a battlewin it!

    Preface

‘B ROKEN BUT NOT crushed’ is written for the man or woman who is feeling down cast, may be, it is because he or she has made many attempts at succeeding in life but may have fallen short at achieving the desired level of success at what he or she has tried to achieve. It is geared to bring an understanding that, no matter how difficult or challenging life seems, you have the power to succeed. Even in the midst of chaos and brokenness, you can overcome. As the saying goes, It’s not over until it is over. If there’s breath in you, there is still hope. Success is still within reach. You can, and will achieve success if you keep pressing on. You cannot and must not give up; there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This book is motivational in nature and relays the type of mindset you must have in order to make it. It suggests that you must approach life with invincible determination, and with a fixed purpose, determining not to fail or to give up. It cites evidence of people who have persevered and have achieved success in overcoming odds and have taken their place among the famous in life.

The book also gives some basic ideas as to what one needs to do to assure success and, also, suggests what needs to be done once success is achieved so that the wealth gained can be transferred to the next generation.

This book also includes some timely thoughts or quotes that will lift the reader in spirit and propels him to a place of confidence from where he can stand up and take the next step forward towards achieving his personal goals.

    Chapter 1

    Best advice ever!

T HE BEST ADVICE I have ever gotten from someone is that, you can make it on broken pieces. This advice came at a time in my life when I was struggling financially, married with a young family and experiencing difficulties that came with a youthful marriage. You may ask, what does this advice mean?. Well, it basically means that, no matter how bad life seems, and no matter how far you might have fallen, you can get up; put the pieces of your life together and still make something ‘beautiful’ of your life.

And, yes! I know you might be thinking – hey, easier said than done, but I tell you this, if you get up, brush yourself off and keep on walking, you will be surprised how far you can get on the journey of life. Basically, what I am saying is—it’s not over until it’s over, and, by this I mean once you have life, you have hope and you never have to give up – never ever!

    Never give up!

One thing I know about life is that it will always present challenges and impress up on you the feeling that somehow your challenges are insurmountable – there will often be times when challenges appear and feel like mountains that you cannot climb over or deep rivers that you cannot cross. But, hey, the key thing is to remember that it’s all a matter of perspective. How you perceive a problem will affect the ease with which you are able to deal with resolving it. You may also want to consider that, maybe, your mountain is not meant for you to climb or your river is not meant for you to swim across or get over the way you are currently thinking. Maybe, the mountain you see is there so that you can stop, think, and explore an alternate path to getting where you want to go. Also, possibly the river you see may be there for a reason, maybe, so that you can realize there are alternate path or ways to getting where you want to go. Maybe, to cross you don’t really need to swim over or it could be that this is not something you attempt to cross alone. Maybe you are going to need someone or a helping hand or a vehicle to get you there. Maybe, it’s purpose is to bring you in connection with someone, one who can help you and bring you to the realization that self-effort alone will not get you to where you want to be. It could also be that you need to reach out to someone – hitch a ride on their ‘boat’ if you will, for a moment so that you can have a little ease getting where you need to be. And, that’s ok, too, because life is a journey, and a journey you cannot complete alone. In fact, the journey of life is such that, as you travel along you will meet various people, and each person you meet is for a particular purpose, for he or she will in some way contribute to fulfilling your destiny or purpose in life. The key, though, is to realize the purpose for which you meet different people in your life so that when the time of parting comes, you would have fullfilled that purpose, and letting go will be easy because you know they were not meant to stay with you forever. Again, understand that your life is a journey, and you cannot take everyone with you on that journey. So, for whatever it’s worth, try to discern the purpose for which you meet each person so that, when the time for letting go comes, you can keep on walking.

    Show gratitude when help comes!

One thing to remember, though, when you are waiting in that place to cross that river or get around that mountain, do not forget to show gratitude when help comes your way. Never let pride consume you. Just be grateful and accept help gracefully. Really, show some gratitude; don’t act like you are entitled to receive the help that comes. Don’t be arrogant. If a hand is reached out, accept it with dignity and understand that we will all need someone to help us at some point in time. As I say this, I remember, in Elementary school, we learn the expression ‘no man is an island, no man stands alone…each man is my brother, each man is my
