FOREWORD

Through ceremony and storytelling, shamans in different cultures all over the world have brought healing to their communities. Here on the west coast of Canada, our First Nations elders teach ancient wisdom passed on in the oral tradition, rarely written down. The connection to the land and the water, the earth and the universe, is inherent in all the teachings. As well, our connection to each other, to the creatures roaming, flying and swimming, and to all plant life is clear. In harming another, we harm ourselves. In cherishing other beings, we lift up all. In recognizing the land as sacred, we have a chance to save the planet.

When we experience ourselves as connected to all things, profound healing takes place. Debra Hillary has had such experiences.
