UNCLAIMED LIES
Written by: Cynthia Jones
Inspired by: Hiram Jones
This story was inspired by my husband Hiram Jones who had a vision of something that can be Unclaimed
which are Lies
. The story portrays a conglomerate of events that are not necessarily true therefore, if any of the names, places or events that sound familiar to you and were witnessed in your area or lifetime don’t consider this the same name, place or event. We hope you enjoy what we are about to share with you. The story is told in a small town in Kansas not far from Kansas City, the city noted in this book is not real. BAGGAGE THAT BECOMES UNCLAIMED. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is Cynthia Junious Jones (Cindy, CJ, Cynt, Cynthia), a writer by nature, born in Tampa, Florida. The names you see are those names I am called by, depending upon who you are talking to—family, colleagues, classmates, and many wonderful people I have met along the way. I am the Wife of Hiram Jones, a Mother of 1 son Adam Johnson, 6 more adult children gained with the marriage to my husband, a Grandmother and now recently a Great Grandmother.
I grew up writing stories and poems never to have any published. My mother Ernestine Wynn always encouraged me to write but never to have anything published. What I believe in is that there is a time for everything under the heavens. My favorite scripture in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 3:1 A Time For Everything. So this is my time, the season, my time for writing and publishing. I asked my sister Brenda why now? She said we have seasons and now this is it for you, you are more settled, your life with your husband is good so you are able to relax now and take the time to do this, so go for it. So by her saying what she said about my season confirm my belief in a Time for Everything.
I must also contribute many of my skills in writing to my career with former General Telephone (GTE)/Verizon Telecommunications where I took the opportunity in attending many writing courses that helped to build my writing abilities. I was also a Supervisor, Staff Administrator, Business and Systems Analyst, where my primary responsibilities for most of the assignments required creative writing skills, in writing performance reviews, requirements and process documents. Dale Carnegie was another course that broadened my horizon in writing giving me the okay to write what I understand not what someone else knows. Although Dale Carnegie was a course for improving speaking skills it also helped me in developing my writing abilities.
I am excited about this first publishing, expect it to be a success and am honored to share it with the world!
au.jpgACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I’d like to thank God first in the name of his Son Jesus for wiring me the way that he did. This was all made possible by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He knows his daughter and knew it was the time for me to spread my wings in another episode of my life.
My Husband Hiram Jones for coming up with the vision and then inspiring me to finish writing the book helping me through the process.
My Mother Ernestine Wynn for previewing during my editing stages and encouragement.
My Sisters Brenda Walden, Rubie Walker and Brother Kenny Junious Sr. for their support and encouragement.
Grands that listened to me as I spoke on the book, Allan, Ambrielle and Noah.
A host of friends and relatives that listened and also encouraged me and colleagues that said they couldn’t wait to read it.
WORDS OF WISDOM
The key to all that we do is having the support mechanism in place to get through the journeys we go through and believing in yourself knowing that you are never too old or too young to do something different. Challenge yourself to be or do something different, get out of the box that you are closed in and leave the FEAR behind.
INSPIRATION OF THIS BOOK
In latter 2013 while in between Contracts my husband Hiram was talking about the visions of a story line and he named it UnClaimed Lies
. I said to him, it sounds interesting and that I would try to draft something up so he could read it and see if the meat of the story lines up with what he envisioned.
In about 3 days after we talked I had 40 hand written pages and presented it to him to read. He said, well babe, it sounds good but you got to put more in the story than this, you got to the end too soon.
Well back to the drawing board I went, did some additional investigative work to see what the average number of words that are found in an average size book.
After my investigation I came up with at least 32,000 words. I then began breaking the book apart coming up with various scenes and giving myself a timeline to go by.
One day a friend of mine Sherry asked, how long do you have before you finish your book? I said, well I only have 15,000 letters where I have a lot more to do. Strange I had never really looked to the bottom of the document to see how many words or letters I had written. Something told me to look at the bottom and I had 76,000 letters and realized I had reached my goal. I was so astonished that I had not looked at the bottom to verify my criteria. Well I reached my goal it was then time to reorganize all I had written. I mean I would give myself 2 hours a night to write. To make a long story short, I finally finished what I set out to do.
What I found out along the way, someone else’s vision doesn’t necessarily end up being your vision as you continue writing, so the story you will read has some of what my husband envisioned but a lot of Cynthia Jones vision. He had different thoughts of the main characters’ life along the way which didn’t come out to how I envisioned his life along the way.
I told my husband if you don’t write it, it won’t necessarily come out word for word of what you envision. The characters became real at some point therefore I could not back out who and what they were. So now I truly understand how characters become real in your heart and mind.
I challenge you to sit back and enjoy the story line you are about to read, it has a lot of values, laughter, fun, serious moments, tragedy, deception and more.
Why I chose the state, locations, events I say it was all inspired by God, I have no idea why I began with the location but it felt right.
I am preparing to write more books including a line of poetry. I am also a Poet in my own right taking special moments that trigger feelings within; that inspires my poetry. More to come so be on the lookout.
NOWADAYS-THE SCRIPTURE
PROVERBS 31: 10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
NOWADAYS-IN THE MIDDLE FIRST
As I gazed into open space the question was asked, Senator…? I’m looking back over my life; Winston Jordan can you answer the question?!! Can you have children?!! Where were you when your last child was born?
I could not get it together in my head, in my mind, I was speechless. My Attorney, my friend had spoken to me days earlier to prepare me for this day and like always, I thought I was ready.
It was March 13, 1987, Friday the 13th; almost 30 years to the day I married the love of my life.
It was ironic to be in court on this day that should have been a celebration of a 30 year marriage anniversary. Let me take you back to the beginning because….
OLDTIMES-BEGINNINGS MATTER
My name is Winston Jordan; I was born September 2, 1940. I grew up in a rural area outside of Kansas City, Kansas, called Bornesville. The little town of Bornesville was not a place many knew of, there was about a little less than 1000 people between the colored and white communities.
My parents were a loving couple and most of all excellent parents. My mom, Jannie Sommer finished school but was soon married to my pop Jethro Jordan after she graduated.
She met pop when he would come to visit his family in St. Louis, Missouri where mom was from. Every summer he would come visit his mother’s sister Aunt Rozeeta Jackson and there he met mom Jannie Sommer; fell in love and the story ends there.
They still today have a caring and loving admiration toward each other. When we kids were in the room with them you could see and feel their love and respect for each other. If they snuggled we got embarrassed, nobody wants to see adults snickering and snuggling it was yuckey, yet it makes a difference at the latter years of your life to have that loving kindness with your loved ones.
Through all the events that took place in our home and community mom and pop were both believers and fighters at loving each other no matter what. I guess that’s why I wanted a relationship like my parents. So I thought that’s what I had or would have in life.
OLDTIMES-SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST
My father Jethro Jordan whom I called pop, was a small time farmer and worked in a mill in the town. Pop worked at the mill on Fridays and Saturdays only and the remainder of the week would work the farm. Pop had land and grew vegetables and fruits that he sold in the community.
Pop had plenty of chickens; he sold eggs and chickens by the order. If someone wanted chickens cleaned and cut up, pop would clean out the chickens, leaving each chicken in a coup by itself; after the chicken was considered clean he would then ring its neck, pluck the feathers, clean it, cut it up and deliver the chicken if the customer wanted it delivered or the customer would pick it up. The cleaning, cutting up and delivery of the chicken would be done at an additional cost.
On the farm we had hogs, cows, chickens, a donkey and 2 horses. We would slaughter hogs and smoke the meat in the smoke house; after it was smoked and dried; pop would carve pieces and use for cooking fresh greens that were grown on our land. We grew many types of greens, kale, cabbage, collards, mustards and turnips.
Mom was known for cooking the best greens, so people in the community would order fresh cooked greens. Mom would slice off chunks of smoked meat to cook the greens. My mom and pop did well with the work they did within the home, therefore, it was no need to go out and work although pop worked the mill for those 2 days.
My parents were what we consider entrepreneurs today during that time. Pop always said if there is a WILL
there is a WAY
with a CAPTIAL W
. He would laugh loudly when saying it too. Pop had a strong voice and it pierced your ears when he raised his voice.
My mother Jannie (Sommer) Jordan was a homemaker, which some call a house wife nowadays and would also take on jobs within the home; cooking, knitting, sewing, and quilting for others in the community. She was an excellent seamstress and real creative, people throughout the small town of Bornesville would come to her for quilts, sweaters; especially during the winter. People in other small towns outside of Kansas City would also come to Bornesville to purchase products from my mom. I gotta say again, mom, was an entrepreneur in those days and with pop the 2 of them kept the family in order; we never had a need for anything. We kids weren’t rich or spoiled; our parents just worked hard to ensure we had the necessities and did not have to go without the basic needs in life. Yes, I say basics; not those things we really wanted as kids like bicycles, instruments, toys, just clothes and food. We had plenty to eat and a whole lot of clothes.
OLDTIMES-MEET MY PARENTS
I am just thinking about my parents who were so good to me and the family. They gave so much of themselves and stuck to each other. They were a force to be reckoned with.
My pop was born before the 20s, along with his other siblings. He was a tall man, stood about 6 feet 5, dark skinned, muscle bound, receding hair line, the white in his eyes always a little red, he had no tattoos, and had big feet about a size 12 ½. Pop resembled the lumber jack kind of guy. He could lift a log like it was nothing. Pop didn’t have to go to the military as most men did in those days. My Pop was the youngest boy and my 2 uncles went in the military during that time.
Mom was born in the late teens too. My mom was a tall slender lady, dark red tone skin, short wavy like hair, she often wore a part on the side and it back on 1 side, slanted dark brown eyes, wide lips not too thick, average size feet about a size 9, she was about a foot shorter than pop, so I take she was about 5 feet 5 inches.
Mom said her mama named her Jannie because it meant God is gracious
. Mom always said God is gracious
, I want you kids to think about all we have gone through, and how we have come through it, so that we can be a testimony to others who are our future generations.
We didn’t like getting mom started on this topic because this is one that she would talk about all day long. So we steered away from getting her started about being gracious and thankful.
OLDTIMES-OUR FAMILY HOME FRONT
The memories I have of my home was that we had a cozy home. Pop built the house from scratch when he and mom first got married. A log cabin style, with a flair of colonial including a stable and barn.
My parents stayed with pops parents, Grandpa Franklin and Grandma Ethel until after the 2nd child James was born. We called our Grandparents Grandma E and Grandpa Frank. Pops parents were still alive and living in Bornesville as I grew up.
The house had a front porch, 3 steps to get to the front door, and 4 windows in the front.
The living room and mom and pop’s bedroom windows were to the right. The living room had an indoor furnace and fireplace and there were vents put in the floors to every room so heat could be emitted to each room.
The windows to the left were me and my sibling’s rooms. The boys shared a room and the girls shared a room.
jpg2.jpgThe bathroom was down the hall to the left; we had a tub that stood on legs, with an inside toilet, and face bowl, thank goodness! Pop wanted to make sure we had indoor plumbing installed. He and Grandpa Frank did all the work themselves with the help from one of the local builders in the community, Mr. Barker.
I can recall before our grandparents got an indoor toilet and plumbing; if we had to go to the toilet, we had to go to the outhouse. We were so happy when Grandpa Frank and pop installed an indoor toilet and added the indoor plumbing. This took a while to get it in, but they worked for about a year until it was all done.
When we’d stay with the grandparents, before they had their indoor plumbing we had to boil the water for a bath, pour in the tub and take a wash, then empty the water out. It was so time consuming, but if you didn’t have the convenience you were used to it and didn’t know the difference later we did…hahahaha
In the back of our house was 3 sections, there was an area that pop made so mom could do her sewing and knitting, a place where she could get away from us all. There was an indoor and an outdoor kitchen attached; this attached kitchen area was very big; while planning to have a big family pop and mom intentionally wanted a big kitchen, enough for all the family to sit down, eat together and just mingle. The kitchen was where everybody hung out together, talked, laughed and enjoyed each other.
While hanging out in the kitchen, the biggest joker was, believe it or not, my Grandma E. She was a jokester by all means and then pop was right behind her, he could tell some stories that would make us all laugh. Grandpa Frank just went along with the 2 of ‘em. Pop had a similar mannerism to Grandma E; my Aunt and Uncles were more like Grandpa Frank with a quiet demeanor. I guess I would say my pops brother Uncle Sylvester had a little more of Grandma E in him too when it came to talking noise.
Then we had another room across from the bathroom that was located right before you entered the kitchen. That was the bedroom our grandparents would stay when they spent the night with us. Sometimes when they’d come over, we would be up all night, laughing and telling stories; because it would be so late, mom would say, Ma E and Pa Frank, y’all need to stay for the night; so they would. It was nice having them here with us. The room would also be used for guest if we had any. Sometimes, mom’s family from St. Louis and my pop’s brother and sister would come and visit and stay in the extra bedroom.
OLDTIMES-WHAT A TIME WHAT A TIME
Holidays were special in our home. The favorite family holiday was Labor Day and Christmas. Well, that’s my opinion.
On Labor Day the community came together and on Christmas we celebrated and did things together as a family.
For Christmas, pop would cut down our own Christmas Tree, gifts were placed under the tree, mom made more clothes for us, grandma and grandpa would spend the night with us. Mom
