Pet Cat on a Hunt

A cat named Ginger preys upon two parakeets, whose cage sits atop a dresser, simply out of jealousy. She thinks the family is paying more attention to them than to her. Her chance to get even with the birds comes when she jumps on a chair leaning on the dresser, and takes a swipe at their cage, sending it crashing thunderously to the floor. The noise brings Mrs. Guzmn, who threatens Ginger with sending her to the Animal Haven Home if she does it again. I see a dresser in a corner of the living room and sitting on top of it is a cage with two parakeets named Bluebird and Greenbird. Perched on an artificial twig, they are noisily chattering, unaware that a one-year old cat named Ginger is quietly observing them from a distance. The cat and the parakeets have been together as members of the Guzmán family for at least ten months but they have never been able to become friends. They do not ignore each other, though.

Ginger became a member of the Guzmán family two years before the parakeets did. For that reason, she feels that she is closer to Mother and the children, especially when all of them make such a big fuss over her when they pick her up.

When the parakeets were brought to the house, Ginger heard all the family members saying how beautiful the birds were. She felt slighted and she began meowing incessantly.
