Darien Marie Barnaby- Toussaint

A native of the tropical island of Jamaica, Darien Marie Barnaby-Toussaint discovered her talent in writing, mainly plays and novels, at a tender age in middle school. Though introverted, being the creative expert that she was, she would watch other people doing things and then find creative ways in her mind to improve them. She acted in pantomimes, church skits, and school skits, some of which she still writes and choreographs. She enjoys reading novels and the writing of skits, plays, and children’s sermons. She was taught to be obedient and courteous to others by her grandmother, with whom she lived for the early years of her life. Then Darien was a mixture of half-cup gullible and half-cup too trusting, thus she would believe anything that anyone said. Her extensive faith in people has brought her much disappointment in life, and though Darien has had a lot of rough times and struggled with the demons of distrust, fear, and brokenness, she has seen a lot of miracles through it all. God has answered her many prayers but has also put her faith to test a number of times. Through this, she has learnt to walk closer with God through his divine intervention in her life. Darien has been a Seventh-day Adventist Christian for the past twenty-four years. She is married to Reid Toussaint, a native of Dominica, and together they have one daughter, Talisa. She holds a BA in elementary education and has been teaching for the past twenty years. It is her sincere prayer that God will use this book to heal and restore people who are broken -hearted. She also hopes that others will recognize that God still works miracles, and that He is interested in every aspect of their lives.

    DEDICATION

I would like to dedicate this book to:

God, who bestowed me with the gift of writing, wisdom, health and strength that sustain me every day.

My darling husband, Reid Toussaint, my best friend, and confidant whose unwavering motivation and encouragement propelled me to the realization of my dreams.

My daughter, Talisa Toussaint, whose presence lights up the room every time she walks in. Her simple prayers and constant peeking over my shoulders while I was writing my manuscript motivated me to go on.

All my teachers, especially my seventh and eighth grade teachers: Mrs. Julia English and Mrs. Irene Rose from Bamboo All-Age School. These teachers instilled in me a love for reading. They didn't just teach me the academics but they unknowingly fulfilled the emotional needs of a shy and insecure child, because they genuinely cared and wanted the best for me.

You all helped me to be who I am today.

    INTRODUCTION

It was the year 1991, a promising year for many young people. I was one of those persons. I accepted the Sabbath truth and got baptized on February 17th. Even though I was brought up in the Sunday church, I decided to become a Seventh-day Adventist Christian after learning the truth in a crusade in the Lime Hall district.

As a new convert, I was encouraged and joined the fasting and prayer group. This group met the second Sunday in each month. It was those sessions that helped me to grow as a young convert.

I remember it quite vividly, almost as though it were yesterday. It was the perfect day for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. As we met for our regular fasting and prayer, the leader, Sister Patricia Brown challenged us to pray for a gift from the Holy Spirit. That was my chance to ask for the one gift that I was intrigued with, so I summoned heaven and asked God for it.

It took years before I realized that God answered my prayers and gave me this special gift. This realization came only through a number of experiences
