The
Wood
People
II
Tessa’s powerful scented perfume knocked the socks off me. I didn’t care one bit! I was too proud of my friends and I for finding the map and crown, but I always forewarn my friends and I that the mightiest challenge awaits, to find the clock. And that had to be done this year from all the procrastination they have been doing. We’re kind of taking a break the next week, then right back to the painful work. I stumbled out of bed, hopped in my fuzzy slippers, woke Cookie, and yelled at Tessa. Tessa, you’re going to smell like garbage if you keep putting perfume on!
I said. Fina, what do you know about perfume?
she exclaimed. A lot more than you do!
I lied. She finally listened. By this time Joe and Elsa were heading outside looking like dead zombies from an apocalypse. Cookie was still sleeping. I let her stay outside to enjoy the silence.
Tessa and I hurried to them. Guys want some coke or coffee it’ll shoot you right up!
I said. Joe took the coffee and coke and knocked them out of our hands. Geez what’s wrong with him?
Tessa said. Beats me,
I said Elsa started to wake up at this time and we all left to breakfast. Something odd occurred. There were tons of wood people and kids surrounding boxes that said K.K UNIFORMS. Oh great, new uniforms!
Elsa said sarcastically. Joe just walked on. You know I hope they are skirts and polo shirts with ties, instead of this ugly uniform!
Tessa said. Me too!
We all bought 7 bundles of fresh new uniforms that smelled like Tessa’s perfume. Why does everything smell like her perfume? We walked to breakfast and it went the same. Joe squirted ketchup on his face. Tessa put mustard on her pancakes. Elsa ate soup with a knife. And I, um...hmmm, I’m pretty normal. I think they’re just too tired. For sure Tessa got a perfume headache. We all finished up without cherishing the moment we drank the raspberry juice that’s only served occasionally.
I’m getting super nervous about the year and the crown. It’s that type of nervousness you get when it is probably when the teacher looks over your homework and you didn’t do it and you are trying to do it now. Very confusing. That is what I am feeling now.
We walked to English class and took our seats.
A little bit about ourselves while we wait for the teacher. Tessa’s favorite subject is math and geology and oceanology, mine is English and Science, Joe’s is science and chemistry, and Elsa’s is geography and Reading. If you did not know are very different for example I have glossy brown hair with beautiful curls. Tessa has black wavy hair. Joe has dirty blonde hair. Elsa has reddish orangeish straight hair. I am Swedish and a hint of Australian (though I don’t have the accent). Tessa is Russian, German, and Icelandic. Joe is French and Spanish. Elsa is Croatian and Finnish.
Anyway, we are taking our seats, and right when I sat down the speakers announce to get to our rooms immediately because there is a bad person in the school or a mob! Oh, great! Elsa, run!
we said. She was speed walking through the long corridor, rushing pass jumbled students looking lost. It was like rush hour. We finally got to our rooms, and what do you know? Joe’s
