Most things in the beauty industry are stylist or cosmetology influenced, not NBLB. Even though a lot of the business knowledge can be used by stylists, this book is intended to ensure that no barber gets left behind. NBLB was designed to answer the most common questions all new barbers have when it comes to getting started. Like how to advertise, how to build and maintain a healthy clientele, and how to make money from behind the chair. NBLB was also designed for the veteran barber who could use knowledge on business management and incorporating your business.
This book can be used as the barbers bible; it will cover all aspects of the barber business, so take notes, pay attention, and enjoy.
Shahid R. Shabazz
Shahid “the Hair Doctor” Shabazz opened his first salon, Trimmers, in 1997 and successfully operated it until the business grew and relocated into the city’s number-one, four-time award-winning unisex salon, Allusions Barber and Beauty. Mr. Shabazz attends numerous hair shows up and down the East Coast to educate himself and to remain two steps ahead of the local competition. Mr. Shabazz is dedicated to uplifting the standards of our beauty industry and community by continually promoting the success of barbers and stylists while helping to build a stronger community. Mr. Shabazz obtained his barber’s license in 1997 and has one of the only salons in the area enrolled in the barber-cosmo apprenticeship program. He is very knowledgeable about the industry trends, the importance of image, branding, marketing, and promotion and has had hands-on experience in all aspects of the beauty business since 1993. Mr. Shabazz has maintained a current barber-barber instructors, salon, and city business license since his first business in 1997. He is also the only certified blade and scissor or shear sharpener in the state who owns and operates a blade and scissors sharpening business. He also contributes a lot of his time doing community activities and events, such as his annual back-to-school drive and his annual food-clothes-toy drive that has successfully grown into one of the city's biggest events. For the past ten years, Mr. Shabazz and Allusions have contributed thousands of free haircuts, hairstyles, nail services, as well as school supplies, uniforms, and personal hygiene items to the families of Petg. The event has outgrown the walls of Allusions Barber and Beauty and has picked up the help and support of other barbershops, beauty salons, and local beauty and barber schools that want to be a part of the bigger picture.
