About this ebook

Laughter lubricates the working parts of our personality so we dont sound like a creaking old door every time we open our mouth.

This is just one of the insights you will find in author Steven Bundys Bundyisms: Thoughts to Ponder over Your Morning Coffee. When his children were about to graduate from high school and college, Bundy gave them a book of idioms, thoughts, and sayings he had come up with over the years. Soon, others wanted to read his words of advice, observations, and humor, too. These insights cover a variety of topics, including soda pop, godly wisdom, and indifference. Bundy comments on each saying, often provoking further thought.

Bundyisms: Thoughts to Ponder over Your Morning Coffee adds flavor to your life any time of day. These observations, based on his Christian faith and experiences, will leave you thinking about them for a long time to come. And adding a little humor to your life doesnt hurt, either.

    Introduction

In 1996 my daughter, Kara, was graduating college, and my son, Erik, had recently graduated from high school. I wanted to give them one of the books often seen in bookstores containing witty and wise phrases or quotes from various sources designed to stimulate their minds spiritually, intellectually, and mentally. I had one all picked out and was headed to the cashier to purchase them when I suddenly had this epiphany: Why give them quotes and phrases from strangers? Why not give them my own thoughts and ideas?

I took the books back, placed them on the shelf, headed home, and began writing down some of my own thoughts. I also began to browse through many of my sermons, teaching scripts, and talking points for additional phrases, analogies, and quips I had authored over the years. What developed was a compilation I titled Addverbs, a word I made up. It was meant to be in verbal juxtaposition with the word proverbs. The idea of using the prefix add- was to encourage them, their children, and their children’s children to add their own thoughts and ideas based on their respective life experiences throughout the years to come. I also intended the book to impart to my children and future generations a piece of my heart and mind available to them long after I had departed this life.

Over the years, many friends became privy to this small book or at least particular quotes from within it and wanted a copy. However, the book was only a manuscript I had compiled specifically for my children. Many of the quotes were based on our life experiences together that others would not understand. So I decided to go through it and extract all the quotes not applicable to other people. I also began to add new thoughts as they came to me or that I used in my teaching and preaching. I renamed this new compilation Bundyisms to convey the message that all the phrases, analogies, quips, and sayings were original thoughts from my own heart and mind. I shared these sayings and phrases with many friends throughout the years, and many encouraged me to put them all down in a published book. After retiring in 2010, I finally had the time to make that dream a reality. So the writing of this book was placed on my proverbial bucket list.

The contents of this book are a reflection of the many facets of my personality and life. I am a husband to my very loving and fabulous wife, Debbie. Her positive, energetic, and caring spirit has continued to shape and mold my life beyond what my parents and others taught me during my formative years. Much of who I am and many of the sayings in the book are a direct result of my being one flesh with her over the last forty-five years. My love for my children, grandchildren, and others has deepened because of my life with her.

Many phrases were made humorous because I love and value humor greatly. I believe we need to laugh a lot. I also believe it is healthy and important to not
