Tim Bright graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. He began his career as a fine artist, studying with Edwin Dickinson at the Arts Students League in New York City and Karl Knaths in Provincetown. After several years in Provincetown, he changed his vocation becoming a builder, constructing several houses including his own. When he retired from the business, he moved to Ireland for a short time. While there, he developed in interest in writing poetry. He has been writing for the past eight years. At one time, he led a writing group at The Wellfleet Writer’s Guild. He studied with Rosalind Pace and Tony Hoagland. This is his fourth book of poetry.

    A vanishing shadow under a

    gate where pebbles and sand

    and last winter’s leaves gather.

    Gathering there too are stars,

    small ones with limited light;

    setting themselves apart from

    the debris thrown from the

    street. They’re soft, inviting the

    frayed shadow until it blends

    with a summer day.

    Then

    Crunching the sand, foot steps

    split the old leaves, disappear up

    the path.

    The stars remain.

    Bed Time

    There is a toothbrush at the

    bottom of the bowl.

    It fell out of my hand at

    eight o’clock this evening.

    It lies crosswise with Colgate

    toothpaste, regular flavor, on

    its bristles. There is so many

    flavors these days—rack upon

    rack at the Stop and Shop.

    The plastic handle is blue

    with white and blue bristles.

    My old one had bent bristles

    on the perimeter and was missing

    some bristles in the inside row.

    I usually brush with one until

    it’s obvious there is no more

    traction.

    I pick the brush up and

    continue. The night is

    closing in, invading the bathroom
