This book is
dedicated to the glory of God. Without His urging through the Holy Spirit, the Neighborhood Tutoring Program would still be a figment of man’s imagination, and this book would be but a distant dream. I also would be very remiss if I did not recognize the critical support provided by many people. First and foremost, I want to recognize and thank Lynn, Avis, Terri Lynn, and Laura for their review and proofreading of the book and for their many valuable suggestions on ways to enhance the manuscript. Lastly, I want to thank my dear and loving wife, Gayle, for her patient encouragement throughout this challenging project.

The mission of the NTP project is twofold: first, to establish and operate Neighborhood Tutoring Centers in the DC metropolitan area, and second, to assist churches and other service-oriented organizations across the county to establish volunteer-based tutoring centers in their neighborhoods.
The Neighborhood Tutoring Program was written to help meet the mission of the Neighborhood Tutoring Program (NTP).
The NTP project is a dream come true for the author and a work accomplished for the glory and honor of God.
Remember, we are commanded to Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another

Foreword
The Neighborhood Tutoring Program
The Neighborhood Tutoring Program (NTP) is the realization of a dream nurtured in my mind during many years of teaching middle school mathematics and social studies in economically disadvantaged suburban neighborhoods. During this period, I annually observed a group of students who obviously needed additional academic assistance but did not have the resources or the wherewithal to obtain the needed assistance through existing channels. By channels, I mean such programs as for-pay tutoring, afterschool tutoring programs, and other community-based programs physically
