About this ebook

The Importance of Church Attendance guides people of all ages to ask themselves a fundamental question: Why should I attend church? In turning to the Bible, Author Frances A. Ross uncovers a wealth of wisdom and insight from that books prophecy, teaching, and exhortation to lead both youth and adults to see the place God envisions for them in the church and to inspire them to gather regularly with other Christians.

Devoting chapters to children, teenagers, newlyweds, and retirees, The Importance of Church Attendance presents an overview of the place of church attendance at various stages of life and then surveys key Bible passages, drawing from them teachings about the place of church participation at each stage in an individuals life. After that, two chapters turn to ultimate issues, lifting up the Bibles teachings on eternity and judgment.

If you look around and see people apparently prospering without faith, you might wonder why you should bother attending church. The Importance of Church Attendance gives answers to that question and encourages you to make your way to the church door and knock, to find the courage to step inside by faith, and to live and celebrate your membership in Gods life-giving community.

    PREFACE

I have felt compelled to write this book for several years. I would write a few pages and then lay the book aside, but it would not be very long until I felt this desire to continue writing the book. I don’t know why I felt this way, and I have made an effort to consider the environment in which I grew up and the things that happened in my life when I was a child. I have often heard people say they need a vacation, which usually mean missing church one or two Sundays. There was a time when I felt it was fine to miss church and go on vacation, but when I did go on vacation, I would always feel guilty. For several years, I have felt this was wrong. Our lives should be fully devoted to God, and taking a vacation does not qualify as being fully devoted. I often think how out of control everything would become if God took a vacation.

When I began this book, I thought that lessons from the Holy Bible and whatever God led me to write would become The Importance of Church Attendance. I read through the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament, and the scriptures seemed so real to me, just as if Jesus spoke to me and pointed out which scriptures to use in the book. I hope you will use the lessons learned from these scriptures in your life.

When I was sixteen years old, I had corrective surgery on both of my legs and had to wear long leg casts for six weeks. This was during the month of August, and my church always had a revival in August. I wanted to go to church so badly that my dad lifted me into the pickup truck and my mother built up the floorboard with pillows and quilts to make
