About this ebook

Religious devotees may believe, hope and pray. Agnostics may think any introspection is a waste of time. Others may constantly wonder and search for reason. In this striving it may seem that we are sometimes prisoners of existence on our Planet Earth for there are some serious constraints to our being. As we do life on Planet Earth we can have our dreams of something better and an eventual release from our bondage. With the passage of time we may relish the joy and wonder of a human life and we may certainly learn about love and perhaps, learn how to love.

    FOREWORD

This collection of words is not intended to offend anybody but there is a distinct possibility that portions of it may. The prime aim of the tome is to provide a retrospective on a human life with wonder and inquisitiveness in an innocent search for meaning. While it primarily represents a personal view, there have been many contributors, whether they know it or not. It may therefore be termed an assortment of thoughts and ideas. There is no desire to lure any reader into the adoption of a particular philosophy or religion despite much discussion of our human ignorance and wickedness. These states are juxtaposed with the glorious realms of love and compassion found within us. If there is any theme to this writing it might represent an unabashed observation of our existence. Accordingly the author assumes that one of two states of being surely describes our consciousness. There is either a reason for our lives or alternatively there is no meaning at all.

No assertions are made that anything included herein is correct or wise. This is a non-coercive compilation containing musings and observations of the experiences of life on Earth around the year 2010. Some elements of history and references to scientific observations are included but are merely illustrative and as such may contain certain inaccuracies. This is part of a so-called ‘long search’ by the writer together with that of close friends and acquaintances. There is no intention to be depressive but at times there may be some gloomy essentials especially where the human ego and nature are involved. Excursions into pessimism and optimism will occur but the majority of the text should remain realistic, even if it includes a certain amount of cynicism. Treating the experiences of our lives in this way is not meant to embody any particular form of judgment. Rather it is an attempt to settle back, to expose some of our foibles and probably have a good laugh at them. No doubt the major questions of our existence will remain unanswered but hopefully dreams of something better will find some resonance with the reader. There is no intention to assign any guilt to others from any self-imposed position of authority.

Many miscreants will be mentioned, for the world is full of them, present company excluded naturally!! Judgment remains the proclivity of higher powers or folk embracing that inclination. Some finger pointing will occur though, with tongues firmly placed in cheeks. Mostly the accusatory digit will point at all of us. The originators hope that the reader will come away from the body of these words with a feeling of warmth and amusement somewhat akin to that engendered when looking at keepsakes of childhood scribbling. There is no intention to embrace lavatory wall humour but the mention of sex will undoubtedly occur. Some embarrassing moments may be included with souls laid bare for all to see. So dear reader, you will certainly not agree with everything herein, particularly if you perceive our consciousness as meaningless. Please forgive any mistakes in grammar or spelling and try not to judge the writers and contributors too harshly, for they like you are only human, very human. Enjoy the plunge

    INTRODUCTION

Perhaps the divine or whatever we may call ultimate order, represents a complete understanding of the co-existence of good and evil, a relationship between order and chaos, love and hatred or form and formless and how these states ebb and flow in the universe, defining each other with the tide.

To some extent we might all be the embodiment of a divine reality, seeking order over chaos and humility over ego as we accept the existence of these opposites. We might be both a singularity and a conglomeration, a revelation of the power of good which is constantly being referenced to and therefore sustained by, the existence of evil.

If there is an afterlife then there most probably was a former life. Our bodily state is passed on to us by our parents as their bodies were passed on to them by our grandparents. In the beginning of it all, on this planet, the human form appears to have evolved from original parenting so we are all possibly physically related to some extent.

Our bodies are inhabited by a stream of consciousness or a life force which ceases to occupy our form when that entity can no longer subsist in a logical physical state. Perhaps this consciousness is an arrangement of energy which may occupy other entities even on other worlds. If this is so, the dynamism of our consciousness embodies extremely vigorous activity, perhaps being capable of transference faster than the speed of light and as indestructible as the energy of matter itself. Our scientists are presently investigating the possibility of states of energy which may exist in more than one place at a time.

If multiple lives are commonplace then detailed awareness of former existences might imperil our current state, inhibiting the free flow of experience. Cumulative wisdom may evolve with each life experience leading to a more developed and coherent future form of existence. This form of evolution may parallel the physical kind evident in the world around us. With each living experience we may be achieving or confirming a more highly enlightened condition, particularly if that is what we sincerely desire. A human life in this way might be an endorsement of knowledge, a great learning experience or sadly, as some folk might contend, a waste of time.

We might represent the living embodiment of good and evil because our consciousness may define either of these states. We are capable of the most dastardly acts towards one another or the supreme delightful altruistic treatment of our fellows. Our wickedness and ignorance bond us to chaos while our charity and love lift us to the very doors of a heaven. Life is surely a lesson and the sooner we discover the dysfunction of evil, the better we and those who share any lifespan with us may become. Treating others as we would like them to treat us is a wonderful starting point. Spiritual guidance from religious or philosophical teachings may also help. When we err, contrition tends to lead us back towards the correct path. It all begins with us.

Cause and effect may be demonstrated in the scientific world and perhaps are also evident in levels of consciousness where enlightenment and divinity may provide forgiveness and intercession regarding spiritual inequities. If we are truly regretful regarding our spiritual failings we will naturally set about making amends. Perhaps someone who once was intrinsically evil may, through forgiveness and contrition, rise up to become a massive cause for good in the present or another incarnation.

    CHAPTER ONE

    HOW GOOD COULD IT BE?

You might ask someone with whom you are having a friendly conversation, what their wish would be if they could have anything in this world at all. Wealth and power are most desirable, but ultimately we all need the peace and confidence engendered by a state of good health. We remain locked in an animal body for a certain length of time, continually suffering the pain and corrosion of this frame of our existence. Given that our demise is a certainty, we tend to desire a non-violent exit from our consciousness. We fear death as it is the great unknown. For all we know, it may be the end of us in total. On the other hand, those embracing the hope of a religious faith or a particular philosophy may possess a different attitude to our passing, but nobody really knows for sure. If we are to progress further down a wish list of human yearning and if we can put aside the desires of the flesh for a moment, we may hanker for a certain degree of wisdom, leading to that great equilibrium called peace of mind.

Given the fragile nature of our form, it is as though life on Earth is almost a gamble. As we age and our body fails, we become confronted with a massive eventual and unquestionable change in our existence. Death is certainly the most significant event in our consciousness. This is perhaps the root of our ultimate lack of power over our day-to-day being. So much pain and suffering beset the human race when power exists without a degree of wisdom. Leaders or nations may rise up conquering all around them, subduing enemies, establishing regimes and governments but these will all eventually fail because of a lack of wisdom.

    THE QUEST FOR POWER

Wealthy and poor people alike possess many pets. Why? Possibly there is a feeling of some intrinsic power in having a pet. We commonly derive pleasure from feeding an animal and providing it with care. Our persona is gratified and our ego massaged. A domesticated animal needs us or is dependent upon us and our nurturing makes us feel more complete. If perchance as many religions intone, there is an all-powerful supernatural host residing somewhere in another realm but cognizant of our daily existence here on Earth, then maybe that divine singularity or group could be likened somewhat to the possessor of countless pets.

Unless we belong to the pathetic collection of individuals who derive pleasure from the torture of helpless creatures, we are generally happy to see our pets as individual life entities possessing a certain freedom of will or spirit, albeit without the attachment of an imagination. In some ways, the cherishing offered to our children may represent a similar motivating compulsion. As bizarre, primitive and dysfunctional as our life may sometimes be, it could represent an affirmation of love. This in turn might epitomize some form of a confirmation of wisdom. Are we dipping into a realm of self so that we may briefly experience the folly of such a state, where self is inclined to inhibit the attainment of wisdom?

    THE CORRUPTION OF POWER

One of the great causes of unhappiness in our present world stems from feelings that we have little power over our lives. We remain constantly and subtly confronted by the cost of our existence. We generally know we will have to toil for our survival. This work will naturally involve a great deal of interaction with our fellows and our environment. We are at the mercy of our talents, our strengths and even our cunning, in order to provide our daily bread. A lack of power over our fellows and our world, constantly and subconsciously hampers us. Life then evolves into an ongoing learning experience following on from the banality of potty training, until we ultimately reach an age where the innate desire for independence kicks in. The individual arises and self then becomes a decidedly significant factor in our existence.

Young adults topple into a maelstrom of coupling, immersed in a feeding frenzy of want and need. There is
