DEDICATION

I started writing a weekly poem to capture the meaning of the Sunday sermons as a gift to my wife but it became a blessing to me as I learned to share my spiritual gift as my own personal ministry. This book is dedicated to my wife, Gina and all the preachers and special guest speakers who worked all week to develop their Sunday messages for their church families to share God’s Word. I want to give specials thanks to Pastors Aaron Rayburn, Roy Collins, Mark Stagg and Tony Bourque. It has been a privilege to learn from each of you.

INTRODUCTION

God talks to each of us every single day. It may not be a burning bush experience but it can be as simple as a feeling that we should do something for someone. I have learned that there is no such thing as a coincidence. These small events are opportunities for us to truly allow God to get our attention. When we really pay attention to all the signs and wonders in nature, we must admit that there is something out there a lot bigger than any of us. God’s love and messages are like a 24-hour radio station sending out blessings and all we have to do to receive them is to tune in and listen. We miss many life-improving chances when we do not pay attention and obey what God wants us to do.

People go to Church for many reasons but getting closer to Jesus is the most important. Any time you can hear or read the Word of God, you are conversing with Him. Please let these snap shots of Sunday sermons touch your heart as I share what each one said to me.

A philosophy of life based on the gospel of Jesus Christ has beliefs and advice to offer and share with all who will listen. I hope the Lord touches your soul as He has mine from these messages taken from the Bible and delivered in His loving spirit. Be still and listen when things are going good and during tough times to allow God’s Word to feed your soul with healing comfort. Learn to develop your own personal relationship with Jesus through appreciation of daily blessings. Open your eyes to let your heart truly see. Seek the Lord for strength to mature in His image and to be His reflection in the things you do. Let Him be your Heavenly Father to see you through each day. I never truly appreciated the unconditional love of God until I became a father myself. I know that His arms are always open no matter what I do. All we have to do is ask the Holy Spirit to enter our heart and we will be in the family of Christ for eternity.

My poems offer beliefs for a personal relationship with Jesus and suggestions for living. They capture the meanings to me from Sunday sermons that I have heard. I hope that my words may shape your understanding of His plan for each of us.

I write to share my feelings with others and to try to better understand and appreciate the things I encounter in life. These poems are snap shots of given situations from my point of view. Your interpretation will make the meaning and feelings special to you. With the hope to entertain and enlighten, I share my thoughts with you.

January 1

UNTAPPED POTENTIAL

There are hidden treasures and seeds of greatness buried inside each of us

God wants us to release His gifts by stepping out in faith – believe and be

You have to get out of the boat to walk on water – get into the faith zone

Do not die with your treasure still locked inside – through God’s vision see

You have not passed this way before – stretch your faith potential for new seasons

Your life is full of unlimited possibilities – you can to do whatever God calls you to do

Be full of joy and make God proud of you – do not settle for what life has given you

Have boldness and confidence to do God’s will – water the seeds He planted in you

Do not be comfortable if you are not stretching yourself to serve the Lord – succeed

Align and get ready to be a pioneer for Jesus – by the breath of God and not my might

The best is still in your future – boldly head into uncharted territories as a child of God

Live full to die spent – God is with you as He was with Moses: lean on Him for sight

Get in agreement with self and God – do not let other’s what if’s hold you back

Your life is not over until God says it is over – if you fail, get up and try again

The untapped potential is within you – just make your mind listen to your heart

Align your thoughts with God – He is calling you to step out in faith and begin

Joshua 3:4

Then you will know which way to go, since you have not been this way before.

January 2

PEACE IN CHRIST

Only the spirit of Jesus brings peace – learn from His Word and practice as taught

The rule of Christ is key to personal peace – Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life

God is always for us and never against us – give your spirit, soul and body to His plan

Be under God’s umbrella and held in His arms – He is in charge to eliminate strife

The rotten fruits of the spirit are discord, hate, envy, gossip, jealousy, anger and lust

We are filled with ourselves – God does not take sides, He takes over to show us the way

God’s peace is like a river that keeps pace with your life – be washed by the Holy Spirit

We must have peace in all our relationships to do God’s work – make amends today

Blessed are the peace makers – hear in your heart the Holy Spirit’s authority

Peacekeepers strive for a false peace at any cost – peacemakers follow Christ’s lead

Eliminate chaos even if cutting off a relationship is necessary – always do what is right

Get away from those who love strife – God, please change me into what you need

Christ Jesus, show me my faults so I can change only me – God changes all others

Whisper into my spirit to move me to a healthy state – all I do is only for your glory

We can only overcome our environment through God’s power and not our own desires

Discipline creates peace in the long run – take over Jesus, as I bow to your authority

Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

January 3

LIFE TRANSFORMATION PRINCIPLES

Be transformed and let Jesus change your life – it is up to you: choose Jesus

There is only one God and you are not Him – blessed are those poor in spirit

God blesses those who realize their need for Him – I cannot do it by myself

I was spiritually bankrupt – I wanted to do right but without Jesus, I quit

Our lives are a mess long before we realize that we have been trapped by sin

I believe that God exists, I matter to Him and only He has the power to help me

I consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control

Humbly make a deliberate decision to obey – blessed are the meek: set free

Face God with a pure heart – stand in front of Him without shame or doubt

Openly examine and confess your faults to God, yourself and someone you trust

Cleanse your soul and voluntarily submit to every change God wants to do for you

Remove my character defects – a daily walk with Jesus to be like Him is a must

Break free from the past – offer forgiveness to those who hurt you and to those you hurt

Make amends sincerely – reserve daily time with God to know Him and His will for you

Seek the face of God to understand Him and not just favors to ask for His helping hand

Be active in sharing your faith to fully see and understand all the blessings God will do

There is always hope with Jesus – I cannot do it without you: I surrender

Dear God, please change me from the inside out as I walk with you each day

Because Jesus paid for our sins, He will not lose His investment in any of us

So repent and surrender the fight – turn your life over to Jesus in every way

Matthew 5:1-10

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

January 4

GOOD WITH ANGER

Throughout the Bible, God and Jesus got angry – righteous anger

Turn your anger into positive motivation to serve the Lord – a life factor

Anger is an emotional response but it is not the base emotion – why angry?

View the cause and deal with the anger – anger is a gift from our creator

Be angry but do not sin – never let the sun go down on your anger

Do not let Satan get a foothold due to anger – we live in an age of rage

When we neutralize our anger, we can use it to show the passion in our life

When destructive, anger makes you cold and sulky or on a pity pot stage

Anger is a learned response – study yourself to handle your anger

For constructive anger, channel and leverage it – use in a positive way

Get angry at what angers God – be angry that the lost are missing blessings

Overcome fear and frustration – vision cast what Gad wants and obey

What pushes anger to the surface? Get your signals from Gods and Jesus

Feel the true feelings and deal with them head on – do not jump directly to anger

Stop in the name of love and think before getting angry – always count to ten

Relax: listen to God and learn to laugh – face the truth: minimize the danger

Ephesians 4:26-27

Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry…

January 5

FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT

The source of all life is in the Holy Trinity – three persons but only one God

Out of divine goodness and mercy, our Heavenly Father made, defends and supports us

Jesus redeemed and purchased us with His lifeblood – the ultimate price of sacrifice

The Holy Spirit enlightens us with His gifts and keeps us in faith – obey and trust

All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Christ Jesus by the Father

The only way to the Father is through the Son – Jesus is with you to the end of ages

Go make disciples of all nations – baptize to give the Holy Spirit into their hearts

Confess your belief to be part of God’s family – learn from the Bible pages

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit provide a life long relationship – reach out

Bring your children to God’s family through your witness – Jesus will come again

He came the first time to die for our sins and then rose so we may have eternal life

This is His promise: washed clean and forgiven – through faith a new life to begin

Matthew 28:16-20

…baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

January 6

REALIZE THAT YOU NEED JESUS

To create a positive change in your life, get serious about serving the Lord

You must first realize your need for Jesus – He is the help when you are a mess

God created each of us to be unique – using gifts He gave; He wants you to be you

God smiles when we realize we need His help – with grace and mercy, He will bless

Obey the teachings of Jesus to know the truth – God’s Word will set you free

We are freed from the bondage of sin through salvation – God is our only master

Sin has blinded and infected our lives – we are hooked on the thrill of doing wrong

When you give up your freedom to follow evil desire, your life has become a disaster

Sin operates daily in our lives – it is the sinful nature of man’s soul

Since the wages of sin is death, Jesus is God’s gift for eternal life – the cure

Only when you realize and ask for help can Jesus set you free from your sins

Just as I am, believing in you; I come – please forgive and make me secure

John 8:31-36

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

January 7

IF WE LET HIM

It is impossible to please God without faith – sincerely seek the Lord

I am blessed when I realize God exits – God is real and He cares about me

He will change your life for the positive if we let Him – clean and forgiven

The plan to change is in God’s Word – He is willing and able to help me see

Man longs to know his creator – God holds the answer to all questions

Our problem is that we choose to ignore God – arrogant indifference to Him

We do not have time for God while we are doing what we want to do – mistake

The check engine light of our life is on – chance for success without God is dim

Life without God opens you to heartache that Christ did not intend for you

We may choose to sin for a season but all have to pay at judgment – play but pay

God cares what happens to you as a loving Father – His children amaze Him

If you let Him, God has plans of hope for our future – a hunger filled today

Please wash me in forgiveness – do not banish me but make me willing to obey

Only God can create from nothing – create in me a heart that is clean and shame free

Lift me from the slimy pit of life and set my feet on rock – on God’s firm foundation

Help me escape the world to enter eternity with Jesus – Dear God, please save me

1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

January 8

DISCIPLINE FOR THE LORD

Are you constantly banging on excuses instead of playing beautiful music with your life?

Use your God given gifts and skills together to make life a success – be spiritually awake

Jesus told us to live larger than life – work hard to put in the effort and stay focused

Learn to fast to distract from the material to things of God – make a physical break

Do not fast to show your sacrifice to other men – you are making a deal with God

As you fast, ask God to reveal Himself to you – from the Bible, live on His every Word

Address your areas of temptation no matter what they are – tune into God; get in touch

Satan is pulling on you to prevent your full potential for God – let him not be heard

Discipline is doing what you ought to do to be able to do what you want to do

Redirect your food source to God’s Word – new perspective on which way to go

Worship and magnify Christ Jesus through the power of three: pray, give and fast

Seek first the kingdom of God and all the rest will follow – His Word seek to know

Principle of the first: spend time daily with God to have the rest of your day blessed

Since your body is a living sacrifice, your worship feeds God – give His love away

Redirect your appetite toward God – fasting is not just the food but also for the soul

You can overcome anything with God’s help – invite Jesus into your life today

Matthew 6: 33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

January 9

BE LORD OF MY LIFE

Give up control because you know God loves you – live to please Christ

We all have daily struggles that require God’s help to overcome – God loves me

Blessed are the meek that are submissive and compliant to the leadership of God

I consciously choose to commit all my life to Christ’s care and control – bow a knee

Choose an attitude to be like Jesus – He owns us; we can submit or rebel

There are negative consequences for refusing Jesus – walk in God’s Word

Wake up and see the mess your life is in without Jesus – house built on sand

God cares and is willing to help when I turn control over to Him – He is heard

We need to learn to respond to the loving pressure and healing touch of Jesus

You may have to hit bottom to know you cannot do it alone – give up; give in

Declare unconditional surrender to Jesus – give up every area of your life forever

Look for His cues as you walk in faith – allow the Lord to lead; new life to begin

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

…he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him…

January 10

FAST FOR SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE

Fast to resist temptations as you get in touch with God – delight in Jesus

My desire is to want what God wants for me – the stomach is the center of desire

Make your wants be God’s wants to receive life’s blessings and breakthroughs

Jesus is the bread of life and the living water – God’s perspective, we require

Release of the power is achieved through prayer and fasting – drive toxins out

Redirect toward God to go to the next level – let Him completely nourish you

Fasting is slowing down and learning discipline – God will reward our sacrifice

You lose when you pursue only what you want – learn what God wants you to do

Fast to redirect your appetite heavenly – hunger for righteousness to be full

Worship feeds and satisfies God – do not give Him leftovers; He wants your best

Get aligned with God to change from the inside out – move from good to great

Others will see your raised spirit as you live larger than life – in God take rest

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

January 11

RELEASE YOUR FAITH

Wrong thinking limits and holds you back – live with raised expectations

Expect God’s favor always – Something good is going to happen today

Faith at work comes from expectations released – don’t worry; be happy

Use positive self-talk to be at peace – live victorious, savor what comes your way

Live according to your faith to overcome challenges – always seek win-win

Work on God’s timetable and do not give up – nothing happens if you do not believe

Expect to be in the right place at the right time – focus to obey and keep God first
