Marianne Mkrtchian, the author of Athena’s Curse, was born in New York City in 2005. She is an American-Armenian who is very proud of her heritage. She loves reading and her favorite series are The Sisters Grimm and Wayside School. Marianne writes stories, diaries, comics and beautiful poems. Athena’s Curse is the first book of Marianne, which she wrote in 3rd grade at John G. Dinkelmeyer Elementary. She was very much inspired by her mother’s and her teacher’s ideas about perseverance and staying true to your values. Marianne now lives in Long Island. She also attends Armenian Saturday School, takes piano and violin lessons, and devotes her free time to reading and writing. Currently she is working on her second book The Vikings of Valor.

    CHAPTER ONE

    The Queen’s Revenge

    O nce upon a time, there lived a beautiful young princess who was too beautiful for her age. She was far more beautiful than any ord inary princess. Her name was Athena. Athena’s mother died at childbirth, which made her very lonely. Her father, a royal king, was sad and lonely too, so he decided to marry again. He married a beautiful but heartless woman named Queen Silvia.

    Queen Silvia was very selfish and jealous. She never loved Athena and was treating her like a servant. Nevertheless, Athena didin’t stop being kind and hard-working hoping that one day Queen Silvia would finally love her like her own daughter. Alas, Queen Silvia was very cruel and one day she ordered her huntsman to take Athena to the forest and kill her. Athena had to escape for her life and after running a while in the forest, she met the gnomes who hid her in their cottage. But the evil Queen Silvia found Athena and poisoned her. Furious, the gnomes killed the evil Queen Silvia as revenge. When Prince Arthur received the news of what had happened to Athena, he came to see her. He was so unhappy. He kissed Athena and magically woke her up from her deep sleep. Then, Prince Arthur invited Athena to stay in his castle. Everything looked happy and normal until one day…

    One day, Queen Silvia who was dead and was living in the Spiritworld decided to have revenge on Athena. She had an evil plan. She
