About this ebook

Freedom of speech, pro-choice, pro-life, womens rights, gay rights, workers rights, patients rights, etc., Everybody wants their rights! But in this book, we talk about choices. In my opinion, rights are really about what concerns groups of people. While choices are about what concerns an individual. The choices you made, or the ones you will make, affect you. People may or may not benefit because of the choices you make, but the choices are ultimately yours. Therefore, this book helps us to make better choices as we move forward in life, by considering and accepting the choices we have made so far.

Charlie M Carter Jr.

Charlie M. Carter Jr. knows firsthand about hardships, family conflict, and strife. Having learned from his mistakes, Carter became determined to make a difference and founded “Reaching Our Goals Together LLC Workshops for Relationships.” ROGT workshops specialize in building strong relationships within individuals, families, workplace, and churches through workshop interactions. Using biblical precepts and examples, life experiences, and academic knowledge, workshop participants are inspired and motivated to learn the concepts of “A Healthy Relationship Begins with You!” and develop effective strategies to build healthy relationships. With the constant rise of divorce, inconsistent and confusion of family member role establishment, youth crisis, codependency issues, marriage enrichment—before and after the marriage, and for everyday work/life concerns, Carter encourages the dynamics of “A Healthy Relationship Begins with You!” As an ordained deacon, Carter has consulted for more than fifteen years locally in church administration, leadership, membership, and ministry development. It is in this capacity that he has shared nationally at the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. in educational programs and training. As an ordained minister, Rev. Carter is shaping his ministry as (newly called and founded) Pastor of Worship Center Church (Saline, MI) and career as an author. With more than twenty-five years experience in management and social work, Carter has worked with many organizations, including Institutional and community chronic mental health treatment programs, automotive/manufacture industries, Conway Central Express Freight, (former) Paxson Television Communications. Carter, a tireless support for community initiatives and programs, has served on many boards, including the Ann Arbor African-American Downtown Festival, University of Michigan Turner Geriatrics Center-African American Service Council, many area churches, and he has worked with the NAACP Ypsilanti, MI, Youth Program. A student for life, Carter received a master’s of social work degree (2002) from the University of Michigan, an undergraduate degree (1994) in human resources administration from Concordia University, and has course work in business management, business law, police administration, and political science. Carter also has course work toward a master’s of divinity at Heritage College and Seminary Cambridge, ON, N3C 3T2.

This book is dedicated to those embarking on this
journey of Choices to learn that a healthy
    relationship begins with you!

    CHOICES?

    Sometimes in Life

As we crawl, walk, run, shuffle, and sometimes roll through life there are separate, yet very distinct Choices each of us overlook, miss, or neglected. Throughout life, and at the different steps in our lives, observations of the past will cause us to wish for another chance or recreate an opportunity to avenge ourselves of those overlooked, missed, or neglected Choices. Remember, hindsight is twenty-twenty.

In this book, you and I will make spot-checks in the past, and coordinate simple, yet, deliberate strategies for making better future Choices. First, read any section of this book you’d like to read; it’s your choice! I enjoy thinking out of the box to experience things differently — exercise my Choices. You may or may not agree with the choices I’ve provided for you in this book – that’s great! But if not, why not?

Above you have an example of Choices regarding Sometimes in Life. It provides a situation in life, which can actually affect any of us at any age more than once. And that’s what it says. From the time we begin to crawl as infants, into old age rolling in a wheel chair we make decisions – Choices.

The decisions we ultimately make shapes our lives whether we overlook them, miss the accepting responsibility of them, or simply fail to make them. Our life decisions, frustrations, the times we vacillate, remain our choices, and who we are! To say hindsight is twenty-twenty – just regroup, don’t be afraid, and make better Choices, is not always that easy.

Therefore, some of the Choices I’ve selected for you and I to discuss perhaps are familiar to you. If they are, how would your problem-solving and decision-making skills handle these situations today?
