Carmine’s poetry career began when his own children were young, and he would be asked to sign birthday cards along with them. He began to write small poems when he signed his name, not realizing how certain people always looked forward to that poem, until one year, his sister in law, sounding hurt, asked, “Where is my poem?” From that day on, he has written about any and every topic, Jesus being his favorite. Carmine was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1932. He graduated from St John’s University with a teaching degree. From there he went into teaching in Plainedge School District in New York. He taught for twenty-eight wonderful years and was cosponsor of the history club, called the Yorkers. Today he lives on Long Island with his wife, Mary Jo. He has three wonderful adult children, of whom he is very proud, and two marvelous sons-in-law. His four fabulous granddaughters enrich his life immensely. As a young man, he helped to raise his nephews, one of which had cerebral palsy. His sister-in-law died during childbirth with this child, and this has given him his philosophy of life. No one knows the hour of their demise, so we must live every day as if it is our last. His great faith in Jesus has given him much strength to live his life in that manner and to communicate that idea to anyone who will listen.

T’WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE NINE ELEVEN

THE SKY WAS SO CLEAR

NO ONE SUSPECTED THE DISASTER THAT WAS NEAR

THIS WAS A NITE OF NITES

NO ONE SUSPECTED THOSE DEVASTATING FLIGHTS

THE MORNING AFTER BEGAN THE SAME WAY

NOT KNOWING THE PRICE SOME WOULD HAVE TO PAY

IT HIT US WITH SUCH A DEVASTATING FORCE

THE LOVED ONE’S OF THE VICTIMS, STILL CARRY THAT LOSS

BUT, CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT IT WAS LIKE

FOR THOSE WHO SUFFERED AND DIED

AND FOR THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS, WHO CRIED AND CRIED

WE CANNOT STOP CRYING FOR WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH

CAN YOU IMAGINE IT HAPPENING TO ME OR TO YOU?

THE COMMAND THAT WOULD COME FROM HEAVEN ABOVE

WOULD BE FOR US TO REACH OUT IN LOVE

THIS IS WHAT JESUS WOULD SAY

AND WHAT WE OUGHT TO OBEY

AS A START, LOVE GOD WITH YOUR WHOLE MIND, SOUL AND HEART

THEN, LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS YOU WOULD LOVE A SISTER AND BROTHER

WE DON’T KNOW WHERE OR WHEN, OR IF ANOTHER ATTACK WILL TAKE PLACE

THE DEVIL WILL WREAK HAVOC WITH THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE

YOUR VICTORY IS IN CHRIST WHO HAS GIVEN US HIS GRACE

WE HAVE AN ADVOCATE

WHO IS INFINITE

AND GOES BEFORE THE FATHER

ON OUR BEHALF

OUR SHEPHERD

WHO CARRIED HIS STAFF

WITH EACH BURDEN

THAT COMES INTO SIGHT

HE SAYS, "GIVE ME YOUR BURDENS

MY YOKE IS LIGHT"

HE STANDS BEFORE THE FATHER IN OUR DEFENSE

HE THEN BECOMES OUR PENANCE

HE SAYS BELIEVE IN ME AND YOU SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

NO MORE STRIFE!

NO MORE STRIFE!

THAT IS WHY WE CALL HIM OUR LORD AND SAVIOR

UPON US HE PLACES THIS EVERLASTING FAVOR

HE IS FAITHFUL TO HIS PROMISES TOO

HE SAYS ABIDE IN ME AND I WILL ABIDE IN YOU

WHOEVER SHALL CONFESS THAT THE FATHER HAS GIVEN US ETERNAL LIFE IN HIS SON

AND THAT HE IS OUR ALL IN ALL

THEN HEAVEN HAS BEEN WON

All Is Futility

FUTILITY IS OURS MY FRIEND

IT WILL BRING EVERYTHING TO AN END

IT WILL NOT WAIT

FOR THIS OUR FATE

AT LEAST BEFORE WE ARRIVE

AT HEAVEN’S GATE

IS THE END JUST TO BE AN EARTHLY MAN?

IS THIS REALLY GOD’S ONLY PLAN

THE DEATH OF ONE

WE WILL ALWAYS BEREAVE

BUT, IS IT ONLY THIS LIFE THAT WE MUST ACHIEVE?

ALL THE GREAT PLATITUDES THAT ARE SAID

ARE FUTILE ONCE WE ARE DEAD

MEMORIES AND MEMORIALS CAN NOT

BRING SOMEONE BACK

LIFE’S END IS JUST A LONE TRACK

IT HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE

THAT LIFE IS MEANT TO LIVE EVERMORE

LOOK AROUND YOU AND YOU WILL SEE

MANY RUNNING AROUND VERY CAREFREE

NO PURPOSE IN SIGHT

JUST WORKING AND PLAYING

FROM DAY TO NIGHT
