DEDICATION
After discovering Louis Blues Boy Jones’ music on the Internet, I told my sister Taneshia I will write a book and hopefully someone will make a movie about our Dad’s life. I dedicate this book to some of the loves of my life: my Dad, Grama, my Mom Louise, brother’s Harold and Louis III, Taneshia and all of Blues Boy Jones’ great followers universally. Remember…Life is a blessing, enJOY and love from deep within your ♥
PREFACE
M y name is LaVern Rebecca Jones Lemons I am the oldest daughter of the late Louis Prince Jones Jr. Jones, who was a native of Galveston, Texas, and a blues singer from the early 1950’s and 60’s. My mother is Louise Frances Ford, and she resides in San Francisco, California. I am married to Pastor Hollis O’Neal Lemons. I have three amazing children, two daughters and one son. I have four beautiful granddaughters. They all sing, dance and recite. My oldest two granddaughters act, create comedy and play musical instruments. Also, I have one multi-talented grandson. We reside in Clute, Texas. As a young girl, I must admit I was fascinated when it came to my Dad because I felt like there was just something special about him that I did not know or had not discovered. For many years, as young children, my two older brothers and I traveled to the breathtaking and beautiful Galveston Island to spend our summer with our grandparents. While there, our Dad would come by to visit us. This was a grand moment for me. As a little girl just seeing my Dad meant everything in this world to me. This book will be loving, yet at times very emotional and tearful for me because I came to the realization that in our lives, some things will remain unanswered. As the story unfolds, people will be able to feel and relate to some of the same experiences perhaps in their lives or maybe identifiable within someone that you may know. My Dad passed away over 30 years ago, but lately his music is being viewed and purchased worldwide over the Internet.
A Special Tribute to my Brothers
Harold Leonard Jones, my dear brother, for twelve days we are the same age. We laugh about this each year until he passes me up again. Back in December, 2012, he was diagnosed with a rare lung cancer, stage three. Everyone is still lifting him up in prayer and we are so thankful for each and every prayer. Please continue to pray. Harold resembles our Dad the most. Also, he has our Dad’s witty and fun-loving personality. Harold we love you, be encouraged and know my dear brother that you are never alone. We believe by faith God will heal you. Hang in there, knowing that your family and friends are right by you side. My dearest brother, I love you and I dedicate this book to you.
Louis Jones III, our oldest brother. He has had his fair share of life’s trials. We hope one day that he overcomes his struggles. Louis we love you and know this, my dearest big brother that with God all things are possible. I dedicate this book to my siblings because as of today we are still striving to locate who has ownership of Louis (Blues Boy) Jones’ music. We, his four children are his legal heirs and we are seeking to claim the rights to our Dad’s music. Our Dad left such an amazing legacy behind and I am grateful to share the story of Louis Blues Boy
Jones’ life with people in locations around the world that love, respect and enjoy listening to his beautiful yet timeless music. Dad, we love and miss you dearly, Blues Boy Jones, R.I.P.
INTRODUCTION
The Story Begins
I n October 2007, I received a phone call from Opelousas, Louisiana. It was my youngest sister that I saw once. Taneshia Aaron, stated that she had to find her two brothers and sister because she received a phone call from one of her relatives in Galveston, Texas, concerning our late father’s music. Her relatives had some almost unbelievable information about our father’s music. Taneshia went on to tell me about our father’s old records being sold on E-bay. What excitement in my heart just hearing from her and then the good news about our dad’s songs on the Internet. This news was overwhelming and almost hard for me to believe! For many years I have asked relatives. What ever happened to our Dad’s music?
To receive great news that his music is being sought over the Internet felt awesome as well as amazing! Without a doubt, I dedicate this book to my loving sister Taneshia. Sister, I love you dearly. I thank you for making that phone call. It opened doors to start this wonderful journey for me. Also, to let our family, friends and many other people know about our amazing Dad, Louis Blues Boy
Jones and his unforgettable legacy that he left behind.
Dad, I feel you smiling down on us. Words cannot express or tell it all of how much we love and miss you. We thank each person where ever you are located in this world from the bottom of our hearts for your loyal and heartfelt support throughout
