    Scripture Subjects - Kris Jordan

    Adultery

Jesus made it clear that the sin of adultery begins in the heart. When a married person gives the attention and affection due only to their spouse to another individual, and/or is tempted with a lustful thought and chooses to mentally nurture it rather than forsaking it immediately, they are committing adultery in their heart. Furthermore, when a married person chooses to act upon lustful thoughts by engaging in any type of intimate or sexual activity with someone other than their spouse, they commit adultery against their spouse. In addition, adultery is also committed when a married person divorces their spouse for reasons not allowed by God, remarries another, and engages in intimate or sexual activity with their new spouse.

In instances where adultery has been committed, it is always God’s desire that through His grace, the offended spouse can forgive, the marriage relationship be restored and the wounds thoroughly healed. Several factors must be present within the heart of both partners for this to happen, beginning with genuine repentance on the part of the one that sinned. This repentance will evidence itself through word and deed, so that the violated spouse can begin to forgive and trust can be rebuilt. Both spouses should strive, by God’s grace and with His help, to do everything they can to work through the damage caused by the infidelity, in hopes of restoring their marriage and affair-proofing their lives for the future.

Although God’s desire is to bring healing and wholeness back to the marriage, sometimes the offended spouse cannot overcome the aftermath of infidelity and the destruction that it wrought upon their heart and the bond of their marriage. God understands this, and in such cases He has made an allowance for divorce when the difficulty cannot be worked through. However, divorce should always be regarded as a last resort.

    Adultery in General

    You shall not commit adultery.

    Exodus 20:14 (NASB)

Or can a man walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; whoever touches her will not go unpunished.

    Proverbs 6:28-29 (NASB)

The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; he who would destroy himself does it. Wounds and disgrace he will find, and his reproach will not be blotted out.

    Proverbs 6:32-33 (NASB)

Jesus said, ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

    Matthew 19:18b-19 (NKJV)

For this, You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

    Romans 13:9-10 (NASB)

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

    Matthew 5:27-28 (NASB)

But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.

    Matthew 15:18-20 (NASB)

And He was saying, That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.

    Mark 7:20-23 (NASB)

Adultery Resulting From Unbiblical Divorce and Remarriage

Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

    Matthew 5:31-32 (NKJV)

He said to them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.

    Matthew 19:8-9 (NKJV)

Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.

    Luke 16:18 (NKJV)

Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. And He answered and said to them, What did Moses command you? They said, Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away. But Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. In the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. And He said to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery.

    Mark 10:2-12 (NASB)

For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress…

    Romans 7:2-3a (NASB)

    Antichrist and Tribulation Period

The Antichrist will be a human male who is revealed after the rapture of the church, and overthrown and cast into hell when Jesus returns to the earth at His second coming. He will be empowered by Satan himself; and his final rise to power will be what signifies the beginning of the seven year tribulation period.

During the first half of the seven years, the Antichrist will usher in a time of peace with Israel, having signed a covenant with them that offers them sanctuary under his power. However, three and a half years into the treaty he will break his covenant with Israel and begin to make war against her. He will then exalt himself above everything that is worshipped or called God, thereby setting himself up in the temple (which by then will be rebuilt), proclaiming himself to be God.

During the tribulation period, the Antichrist will perform many counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, as well as carry out every deceptive act of evil. He will suffer a fatal wound, but be healed or resurrected (which could refer to his person or his kingdom). Additionally, he will be joined by another satanic figure called the beast from the earth and the false prophet, who will carry out the desires of, and exercise the authority of, the Antichrist. He will draw the world’s attention to the Antichrist and cause them to worship him by performing great and miraculous counterfeit signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven in view of everyone.

The Antichrist will rule the world for a brief time, having received great power and authority from Satan to exercise dominion over every tribe, people, language and nation. He will receive worship from all the world, and will require everyone to receive the mark of the beast upon their forehead or right hand in order to buy or sell as part of the world‘s commercial system. Given the necessity of this mark for commerce, and the technological advances of our modern times, many speculate that this mark may very well contain the personal data and banking information for each individual, possibly in the form of an implanted microchip. Everyone on the earth will be required to receive this mark, and those who refuse will be put to death. However, those who choose to receive the mark will, in doing so, be offering worship to the Antichrist; and thus they will not be saved.

Although the Antichrist will be in earthly power during the tribulation, it is God who will be in ultimate authority and will pour out His wrath against sin, evil and wickedness upon the earth and its inhabitants. There will be terrible wars, famines, plagues and natural disasters such as the world has never seen or endured. Many will come to faith in Christ during this time, including many Jews; however, most of them will be martyred because of their faith, testimony and refusal to worship the beast.

At the end of the seven year tribulation, the Antichrist will gather the kings of the earth together and launch a final attack upon Jerusalem. This is known as the Battle of Armageddon. At the climax of this battle, Jesus will return to the earth in His second coming as a Man of war, along with an army of resurrected saints. This army will consist of all God’s people who have died in faith up until that point, including those killed during the tribulation. The Antichrist, along with the other kings of the earth and their armies, will then turn and attempt to wage war against Jesus and His army of saints. (Revelation 17:14).

Immediately upon Jesus’ return, the Antichrist and the false prophet will be captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire, and the remaining soldiers will be killed. After that, an angel of the Lord will seize Satan, bind him with a great chain and throw him into the abyss for 1,000 years. Jesus will then rule upon the earth for 1,000 years, along with His bride (the glorified believers from all of history), ruling over those on earth who were allowed entrance to His Millennial Kingdom as well as those who will be born afterwards, until the 1,000 years are over.

[Note: The sequence of end time events is as follows: rapture; tribulation; battle of Armageddon; second coming of Christ; Millennium; final judgment; new heaven and earth.]

    Antichrist: About Him

Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast [Antichrist], for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

    Revelation 13:18 (NASB)

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it [the second coming of Christ] will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed [Antichrist], the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

    2 Thessalonians 2:3-10 (NASB)

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains [referring to the Antichrist setting himself up as God in the temple].

    Matthew 24:15-16 (NASB)

Then the king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done.

    Daniel 11:36 (NASB)

He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all. But instead he will honor a god of fortresses, a god whom his fathers did not know; he will honor him with gold, silver, costly stones and treasures.

    Daniel 11:37-38 (NASB)

He will take action against the strongest of fortresses with the help of a foreign god; he will give great honor to those who acknowledge him and will cause them to rule over the many, and will parcel out land for a price.

    Daniel 11:39 (NASB)

Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon [Satan] gave him his power and his throne and great authority. I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast [Antichrist]; they worshiped the dragon [Satan] because he gave his authority to the beast [Antichrist]; and they worshiped the beast [Antichrist], saying, Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him? There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven. It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain.

    Revelation 13:1-8 (NASB)

He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ [7 years] In the middle of the ‘seven’ [3.5 years] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

    Daniel 9:27 (NIV)

Then I saw another beast [the false prophet] coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a dragon. He exercises all the authority of the first beast [Antichrist] in his presence. And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the presence of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which it was given him to perform in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life. And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed. And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name

    Revelation 13:11-17 (NASB)

After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering great boasts… Then I desired to know the exact meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its claws of bronze, and which devoured, crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet, and the meaning of the ten horns that were on its head and the other horn which came up, and before which three of them fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth uttering great boasts and which was larger in appearance than its associates. I kept looking, and that horn was waging war with the saints and overpowering them until the Ancient of Days came and judgment was passed in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the time arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom. Thus he said: The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth and tread it down and crush it. As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones [referring to Antichrist] and will subdue three kings. He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time [3.5 years].

    Daniel 7:7-8; 19-25 (NASB)

And the beast was seized [Antichrist], and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

    Revelation 19:20 (NASB)

And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast [Antichrist] and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

    Revelation 20:10 (NASB)

Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation. By smooth words he will turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display strength and take action.

    Daniel 11:31-32 (NASB)

In the latter period of their rule, when the transgressors have run their course, a king will arise, insolent and skilled in intrigue. His power will be mighty, but not by his own power, and he will destroy to an extraordinary degree and prosper and perform his will; he will destroy mighty men and the holy people. And through his shrewdness he will cause deceit to succeed by his influence; and he will magnify himself in his heart, and he will destroy many while they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of princes, but he will be broken without human agency. The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true; but keep the vision secret, for it pertains to many days in the future.

    Daniel 8:23-26 (NASB)

    Antichrist: Counterfeit Miracles/Signs/Wonders

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

    2 Thessalonians 2:8-10 (NASB)

Then I saw another beast [the false prophet] coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a dragon. He exercises all the authority of the first beast [Antichrist] in his presence. And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

    Revelation 13:11-15 (NASB)

And the beast was seized [Antichrist], and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

    Revelation 19:20 (NASB)

And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty.

    Revelation 16:13-14 (NASB)

Antichrist: Makes Peace with Israel for 3.5 Years

He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’ [7 years]. In the middle of the ‘seven’ [3.5 years] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

    Daniel 9:27 (NIV)

    Antichrist: Mark of the Beast

And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast [Antichrist], for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

    Revelation 13:16-18 (NASB)

Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.

    Revelation 14:9-11 (NASB)

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God. So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant sore on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.

    Revelation 16:1-2 (NASB)

And the beast was seized [Antichrist], and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

    Revelation 19:20 (NASB)

Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

    Revelation 20:4 (NASB)

And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God.

    Revelation 15:2 (NASB)

Antichrist: Turns on Israel After 3.5 Years

He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’ [7 years]. In the middle of the ‘seven’ [3.5 years] he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

    Daniel 9:27 (NIV)

From the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days! But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.

    Daniel 12:11-12 (NASB)

Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank of the river. And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, How long will it be until the end of these wonders? I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; [time refers to 1 year, times refers to 2 years, half a time refers to a half year, all of which total 3.5 years] and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed.

    Daniel 12:5-7 (NASB)

There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty-two months [the second half of the 7 years] was given to him. And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven. It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.

    Revelation 13:5-7 (NASB)

He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time [referring to the second half of the 7 year tribulation].

    Daniel 7:25 (NASB)

Then there was given me a measuring rod like a staff; and someone said, Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar, and those who worship in it. Leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months [3.5 years]. And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.

    Revelation 11:1-3 (NASB)

Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation. By smooth words he will turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will display strength and take action.

    Daniel 11:31-32 (NASB)

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains [referring to the Antichrist, who sets himself up as God in the temple].

    Matthew 24:15-16 (NASB)

Antichrist: World Ruler who is Worshiped

    Revelation 13:11-12 (NASB)

And it was given to him [the false prophet] to give breath to the image of the beast [an image made of the Antichrist], so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

    Revelation 13:15 (NASB)

It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.

    Revelation 13:7 (NASB)

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it [the second coming of Christ] will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed [Antichrist], the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

    2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (NASB)

    The False Prophet

    Revelation 13:11-18 (NASB)

And the beast was seized [Antichrist], and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

    Revelation 19:20 (NASB)

And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast [Antichrist] and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

    Revelation 20:10 (NASB)

    Tribulation: Armageddon

And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; for they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. (Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.) And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon.

    Revelation 16:13-16 (NASB)

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war… And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, Come, assemble for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great. And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. And the beast [Antichrist] was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

    Revelation 19:11; 14-21 (NASB)

It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

    Jude 1:14-15 (NASB)

And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind. The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.

    Revelation 9:15-16 (NASB)

But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other… But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

    Matthew 24:29-31; 36-42 (NASB)

Behold, a day is coming for the Lord when the spoil taken from you will be divided among you. For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord, my God, will come, and all the holy ones with Him! In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle. For it will be a unique day which is known to the Lord, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light. And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter. And the Lord will be king over all the earth; in that day the Lord will be the only one, and His name the only one.

    Zechariah 14:1-9 (NASB)

The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The Lord of hosts musters the army for battle. They come from a far country, from the end of heaven-the Lord and His weapons of indignation, to destroy the whole land. Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. Therefore all hands will be limp, every man’s heart will melt, and they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames. Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it.

    Isaiah 13:4-9 (NKJV)

Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

    Revelation 1:7-8 (NASB)

In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the Lord before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

    Zechariah 12:8-9 (NKJV)

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. In that day, says the Lord, I will strike every horse with confusion, and its rider with madness; I will open My eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in the Lord of hosts, their God.’ In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a firepan in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch in the sheaves; they shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place.

    Zechariah 12:2-6 (NKJV)

As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age? And Jesus answered and said to them, See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

    Matthew 24:3-14 (NASB)

The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ And he said to them, ‘An enemy has done this!’ The slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them. Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.

    Matthew 13:27-30 (NASB)

Tribulation: Catastrophic Events Never Experienced Before

For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will. Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

    Mark 13:19-20 (NJKV)

Then He continued by saying to them, Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

    Luke 21:10-11 (NASB)

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

    Matthew 24:15-22 (NASB)

But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people; and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

    Luke 21:20-26 (NASB)

When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.

    Revelation 6:3-4 (NASB)

When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, Come. I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

    Revelation 6:7-8 (NASB)

I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?

    Revelation 6:12-17 (NASB)

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind would blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree.

    Revelation 7:1 (NASB)

And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them. The first sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

    Revelation 8:6-7 (NASB)

The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed.

    Revelation 8:8-9 (NASB)

The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters. The name of the star is called Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

    Revelation 8:10-11 (NASB)

The fourth angel sounded, and a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a third of it, and the night in the same way. Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the
