John Andrew Wanat is an up and coming writer from the New England area. Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Wanat has been writing since his teenage years. He's written articles in small, local newspapers, and wrote a feature article about the Naismith, Basketball Hall of Fame. John, as his friends call him, is severely disabled with Beckers, Muscular Dystrophy. During John's working years, he's worked for Goodwill Industries, several local radio stations, and has managed several successful political campaigns. Now, confined to a Western Massachusetts nursing home, in Westfield, MA., Mr. Wanat has written his first book, "Nursing Homes - The Real Deal." John is divorced, has two married, step-daughters, and lives a quiet, but active life.

    Writing This Book

    I’m very glad I wrote this book, because I believe it has some redeeming value. It was my goal from the beginning, to enlighten people to the fact, that nursing homes are an option, that can be considered.

    I don’t want this book to be a complaint book, filled with horror stories, and tales of wow. Because it’s not all that bad. Of course you’ll have no privacy, the food sucks, and there are lots of rules to follow and break.

    It’s never a dull moment, always something or someone that needs help.
