About this ebook

No Cross, No Crown is a collection of
poems with spiritual connotations, mixed with a little lively humor and
true-to-life lessons. When faced with an adverse report from a doctor
or some other tragedy in life; Where did God go? and No Cross, No
Crown would offer a great source of comfort. On the lighter side of
things, when there are social functions or family gatherings, if theres
room for a joke or two, The Raid, Swim on By, All Ma Cloth,
and a few others would put a smile on the grumpiest face. These poems
were written mostly by inspiration, some by demand, and others were
adapted from stories told about life on the family islands, for example,
Sam Majors Wife, The Wake, and Belle, Island Gal.
I hope that this book would bring you joy, laughter and inspiration to
help you through trying times as well as remind you of some memorable
event(s) in your life.
So, sit under a coconut palm, relax, and grab a nice chilled glass of
lemonade as you browse through this book. Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

Angel Eyes

…a minister, mother, nurse, author, gardener, fisherwoman, and a grammy. Each of these hats, she wear with pride…” An author, born out of adversity…under duress, stress, and hardships, Jennie found writing as a way of easing the tension and bringing closure to a day of struggling through the maze of instruments, machinery, and sutures in the operating theatre. Thus the poem, “Theatre Life.” In 1989, she obtained the Golden Poet’s Award, for her poem, “The Eyes.” Presently, she still writes poetry when inspired or called upon to cheer up a friend or family member; even to commemorate a special event.

No Cross No Crown - Angel Eyes

    No Cross No Crown

    7255.jpg

Amidst the strife, the vicissitudes of life,

    With perils all around,

My master whispers, sweet and low,

My child, no cross no crown

In streams of love, and rivers peace,

My soul have found a place,

In liquid joy, on solid rest,

Just because of his amazing grace.

I never knew such peace exist,

Until Christ came in to dwell.

I now can face the deadliest foe,

Because I know, that all is well.

When sorrows assail, and trials come,

    I’m confident, without a doubt,

    I rest assured just knowing,

My Lord will bring me out.

My savior comes with silent speed,

    And all his quickening power,

He is always there on time,

    He’s within the very hour.

So when temptations press me sore,

My faith is on solid ground,

I still hear my savior speak to me,

My child, no cross, no crown.

    Broken Vessel

    7257.jpg

I was a beauty to behold,

A cherished vessel etched in gold,

    Fashioned by the Master’s hand,

Reflecting his beauty, and to take a stand.

The Master kept me on a shelf,

He cleaned and polished me by himself,

He knew that none could do for me,

What he did daily, so lovingly.

A vessel of honor I heard him say,

    As he place me on the shelf each day;

I created you, you are mine,

That’s why I polish you till you shine.

Don’t mind the rubbing I do each day,

You can endure; you were made that way,

I know your texture, mixed your grain,

I know that you can stand the strain.

The reason I care for you this way,

You are no ordinary piece of clay,

You are cherished, and in my plan,

And none can pluck you from my hand.

I was joyful as could be,

That the Master should care so much for me,

I’m happy to serve, I’d always say,

As I go back on the shelf each day.

Til one day my world caved in,

With a crashing, rumbling, thundering din,

    An earthquake shook my neighborhood,

It rattled the shelf upon which I stood.

All shattered I lay in mortal fear,

And was quick to ask, don’t the Master care?

    Here I
