About this ebook

Drummer Boy: A Glimpse Into The Life of Dinerral Shavers is a personal memoir about my brother, Dinerral Shavers. Dinerral was a member of the world renown Hot 8 Brass Band. He was a teacher and mentor to all those he touched. The book gives a glimpse into his life from birth until his untimely death on December 28, 2006. My perspective provides readers with a sense of being in New Orleans during Katrina and the actions before, during and after Dinerral's death. I hope this book helps the families of victims of crime heal and find a purpose for remembering their loved ones.

    Epilogue

New Orleans, Louisiana also known as The Big Easy is a city full of mystery, excitement, history and lots of crime. As of 2009, the city made its mark by ranking number 11 on the Forbes.com list of America’s most dangerous cities. The state capital, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was ranked number 12. Despite this fact, the city’s world renowned French and Spanish culture, historical sites and Creole cuisine makes it one of the world’s best tourist destinations. The City of New Orleans celebrates its rich history throughout the year with a host of events and tours of the city’s most notable landmarks. Mardi Gras, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Second Lines, The Cabildo, The Presbytere, Cities of the Dead, Vieux Carré, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, Armstrong Park, Congo Square, New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans City Park, Aquarium of the Americas, Audubon Park, Audubon Zoo, Riverwalk, Jackson Brewery, French Quarter Market and Café Du Monde to name a few. New Orleans also has a unique ecology. Areas near the Mississippi River are above sea level while the areas away from the river and below sea level. As a result, most of the city’s neighborhoods are built on land that is below sea level.
