Pastor George Tynes has been married for thirty-three years to Thea L. Tynes. They are the proud parents of Richard, Valen, and George. They have ten wonderful grandchildren. Pastor George Tynes is a graduate of Eastern University (’81). He earned a BS degree in business administration and a BA degree in religion. He finished half of his master’s degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary before transferring to Bakke Graduate University, where he earned his MTS degree (master of theological studies) in May of 2009. Pastor George Tynes is the founder and pastor of the Truth Baptist Church of Philadelphia. TBC was founded in December 1990. TBC is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Pastor George Tynes is a musician, singer, songwriter, and author. He remembers with clarity the moment he kneeled down at his father and mother’s bed and asked Jesus into his life at the age of nine. His calling verse to the ministry is Luke 4:18, 19: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.”

    Introduction

    The call to leadership is an awesome responsibility and honor. You have been chosen by God to guide those that are under your leadership into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Yes, this is the ultimate purpose of your call. It is an honor and privilege to be chosen to lead others and that honor has been given to you. Your call is no different than the call of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and Isaiah. God is the one that has called you into this position of leadership. It is God, through Jesus Christ, that will call you from labor to reward for a job well done. (Matthew 25:23; Romans 2:16)

    The two overarching questions we are going to examine are: What is the call of leadership? and How is the call of leadership confirmed? These exciting questions will be the fuel for our discussion.

    The Call of a Leader

    A leader is a role model for others to follow. A leader is a road map (incarnate), which helps others to get to their destination. While no leader is qualified to lead, a leader is given the authority to lead by virtue of Him that has called. This simply means that
