The best qualification for me to write this book is my passion and knowledge to inspire others with my words. On a more personal note, I am not just the author, but one of the many people within the pages of this true and powerful story who was given the courage and wisdom to tell this story as it has been written. My backyard is Fort Collins, Colorado. For more than twenty years I have given to help others and as it has been in the past, so is it still true today. I do not have a mansion on the hill, but what I have in this story is so much more. I have faith in a brighter tomorrow.

    Chapter One

    The Beginning

It’s strange and a bit of a mystery all in itself, how life works out. At times you think you have it all figured out! The perfect plan that you have created to have the life you want or at least you think you want. Then in a blink of an eye or like the song I just listened too (in a New York minute) everything changes. I have seen it come and go in so many faces like a sea of lost dreams by people who spend the rest of their lives trying to turn back the hands of time, and trying to return back to the point in their own lives where it all went terribly wrong. For some such as myself have found a way to turn back those hands by creating our own time machines and using the written word of the power of memories of a time that has no end. As we are not able to change the events of our own pasts! We share our time machines with others in hopes to change their futures and to give them the chance to make right in their lives where others have failed. This particular time machine I call Eclipsed, and we are just about to open the door to the first week of December in nineteen eighty five to a young man’s life. If you listen closely, you can almost hear his voice as he is about to share his story with us.

I had been working on a play for Christmas with some of my classmates. After an hour of rehearsal, our teachers decided to let us take a break. My friend Donna who was also in the play walked over to me and asked, Jimmy, do you think you could help me rehearse some of my lines? I don’t think I have them all memorized yet. I was playing a reporter in the play so my part wasn’t too hard to remember.

I looked at her and said Sure I can do that! Then we walked over by the window and sat down at a table.

I was looking down at the rehearsal sheets when I heard someone ask to speak to Donna and I.

As I looked up the most beautiful girl I had ever seen was walking over to Donna and I. Donna and the mystery girl started talking about things they needed to do after school. Then she looked over at me and said, Oh I’m sorry, Jimmy this is my sister Rose! She’s going to be in the play with us!

I stood up and smiled then said, Hello, it’s nice to meet you Rose!

Rose smiled and said, Hi Jimmy it’s nice to meet you too!

As I looked into her amazing hazel eyes, a feeling I had never known came over me like a giant wave crashing down all around me. I couldn’t explain it, but you know that strange feeling they say you get when you fall in love for the first time? Well that feeling was definitely more than there! I had liked girls before, but this seemed to be something more. I tried to come up with reasons of why I was feeling this way, but I couldn’t! The same question circulated through my mind over and over. Why is a girl who I had just met making me feel so nervous and shy? This was something new to me, something I hadn’t felt before.

I thought to myself, she must be an angel, because I had never seen a girl so beautiful before and when she spoke her words were so soft. I thought to myself, god has sent me an angel from heaven to love!

After a week of seeing Rose around the school, I finally got up enough courage to ask her if she would go out with me. Rose said yes and we started seeing each other as a couple.

For the first couple of weeks we just talked on the phone and seen each other in school.

As we worked on the play and finally recorded it for the rest of the school to see, time passed and Christmas break was here. Rose and I had been talking about me coming over to meet her parents over the break, but unfortunately that wasn’t going to happen.

On the morning of the last day of school, my dad told me that we were going out of state for the holiday season. I wasn’t too happy because I wanted to spend my time with Rose! When I arrived to school I looked for her, but didn’t see her until lunch.

I walked into the lunchroom and Rose was just sitting down with Donna at a table. I walked over to the table and said, Hello beautiful! Donna looked up at me and laughed then said, Hey now, I thought you were going out with my sister. Rose looked up and smiled at me and I said, She knows who I’m talking about!

Still smiling she asked, Are you going to come over sometime during Christmas break to meet my parents?

I don’t think I’ll be able too. I said as I sat down next to her at the table. My dad told me this morning that we’re going to go to Niagara Falls up in Canada, for the winter break!

Rose looked a little disappointed then said, That’s ok, at least you’ll get a chance to get a break from around here!

Yeah, I guess that’s one way to look at it, but I would rather stay here with you.I said with a slight frown. The three of us sat and talked until the lunch bell rang and then left to go to our next classes. The rest of the day went by very quickly and then school was out for the winter break. I got off the bus and ran inside to use the phone to call Rose, but was stopped by my dad as I closed the front door. Jimmy you need to get your things packed, so we can get on the road!

I looked at him, Ok dad I will, I just need to make a really quick call and then I’ll pack, I said as I headed for the phone.

No! He said in a deeper sharpened tone. "Everyone else has all of their things packed and ready to go!

You can call your friends when we get back, they can wait two weeks, and we need to go now! "Now questioning my dad was like questioning a rattlesnake, you just didn’t do it! I decided to do as he said and got my things packed, then we left for Canada and the winter break.

I wanted to call Rose while I was on vacation, but my dad had told me if I did he would ground me when we got back home.

I decided I didn’t want that to happen so I tried to concentrate on other things, but no matter what I tried to do I just couldn’t get this girl off of my mind!

Once again I was back in that state of confusion, of trying to figure out why I was having such strong feelings for a girl that I barely even know!

Finally, after two very long weeks in Canada we returned back home. School was the next day and I wanted to call Rose, but my dad had said we had chores we needed to catch up on. It was after eight at night so I figured by the time chores were finished it would be close or after nine. I didn’t want to make Rose’s parents angry by calling so late! Especially since I hadn’t met them yet! I decided to just get my chores done and I would talk to Rose in school the next day.

The next morning I got up early and waited patiently for the school bus. It was a little late picking me up because the roads were snow covered. We finally got to school about nine thirty and since we were an hour late I didn’t get a chance to see Rose until lunch. At first when I walked into the lunchroom I didn’t see her. Then she walked up behind me, and said, Hey you.as she gave me a hug. I smiled and put my arms around her and said, "Hey you. how are you doing today?

Then we walked over to a table and sat down. Donna had come in a few minutes later and sat down with us. Rose smiled and asked, How was your vacation?"

It was ok at first, I said, "but I wanted to call and talk to you instead of being with my family. I did try to call you a couple of times, but my dad said if I wasted my money calling anyone I would be grounded when we got back home.

I mean it was nice up there and all, but for some reason I just couldn’t get you off of my mind! Rose stared at me for a moment and didn’t say anything. Then in a quiet voice asked, Are you feeling ok?"

I smiled, Yeah I feel fine. Why did you ask me that?

Well it just sounded weird because you said that you couldn’t get me off of your mind.

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean! I tried to figure it out more times than I can remember. I think it’s because you’re not like any girl I’ve ever known. I’ve taken girls to the movies before and things like that, but I haven’t ever felt a need to want to be around them like I do when I’m with you! It’s strange I know, but the way I feel when I’m with you is like nothing can go wrong and the one really big thing is you make me want to be a better person!

The three of us sat and talked until the bell rang, then Rose sighed and said, I don’t want to go, but I think we need to get to our next classes. I was just wondering, are you going to call me after school today?

I smiled and said, You know I will that is, unless you have some other plans.

She smiled, then squinted her eyes just a little and with a little sarcasm in her voice said, "Well let’s see now, I might be washing my hair, or something like that! You just never know what a girl might do in her spare time! Come to think of it, I might even go skiing, but if you’re really… going to call….!

Then she laughed and said, Actually the reason I asked is because we might be going to my grandmother’s house down in town for dinner and I just didn’t want to miss your call just in case you did!

Well I’ll try, I said, and if you’re not home I’ll leave you message.

Donna spoke up, Ok you two love birds, we should probably get to class before we get counted late!

Yeah, you’re probably right Donna, I said, as we got up from the table. We don’t need to be late! Then I gave Rose a hug and said, I’ll talk to you tonight!

Jimmy, do you promise you will call? she asked.

I smiled, then caressed her face gently and said, Anything for you Rose! With a sparkle in her eyes she said Ok, Jimmy, talk to you tonight and then gave me a hug and a soft kiss on the cheek. Then I walked out and went to my next class. I tried calling Rose after school, but there was no answer. I just figured I would see her in school on Tuesday.

The next day I looked for Rose during lunch, but didn’t see her anywhere. Donna had a doctor’s appointment in the morning so she didn’t come to class until the afternoon. In between classes I had seen her in the hall and asked, "Where’s Rose today?

Oh, Rose isn’t feeling so good today, so she didn’t come to school,

she said as we walked into class! Can you tell her when you get home that I said I hope she gets better soon and I’ll see her when she comes back to school?

I can if you want me too, she said and then we sat down and class started. Rose was out of school for a couple of weeks, so we didn’t see each other, and we hadn’t talked on the phone either. I decided I would write a couple of letters and send them home with Donna instead. This way Rose and I could still talk until she was feeling better.

In the letters I would tell Rose things like, how I was sorry she wasn’t feeling good and how I missed seeing her. Rose finally came back to school on her birthday. Donna had told me the day before that Rose would probably be in school tomorrow.

That night I went to the store and bought some flowers, a birthday card and a little stuffed animal for her.

The next afternoon, Rose’s class had a birthday party for her. I had a study hall so I went to Rose’s class and gave her the gifts and said, Happy birthday Angel! I’m glad you’re feeling better and back in school, I missed you! Rose smiled and gave me a hug then said, "Thank you for the birthday gifts, and I am so happy to be back in school too!

While Rose was out of school my dad had helped me get a job at a local hardware store. This way I would have some money of my own and I wouldn’t have to ask either one of my parents for any in case I wanted to go out. I told Rose about my job and she asked, Do you like it, what do they have you do?

Well, being my first real job, I said, I guess its ok! Not everyone works at fifteen, but I guess my parents figured it would help keep me out of trouble. Besides, this way I would have my own money in case anything was to come up. Which speaking of things coming up, I was wondering if you would like to go out to the movies sometime when I have a day off that is?

Yes, I would like that a lot she said, but you need to ask my parents first to make sure it’s ok with them."

Ok well that sounds good to me. Should I call and ask, or come over and ask?

You should probably come over and meet my parents first, she said, and then ask!

I smiled Yeah that’s probably a good Idea Angel seeing I still haven’t met them yet! When do you think would be a good time for me to come over?

She thought for a moment then said, Let me talk to my mom first and then I’ll let you know!

The study hall bell rang so I said, Sounds like there playing my song, I need to go to my next class, but I’ll try to give you a call later tonight after work, that is if I don’t get off late!

Rose said, Ok, then gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Thanks again for the birthday gifts and all the letters you wrote to me while I wasn’t feeling good, and I really missed you too!"

I looked at her and said, Anything for you Rose, you’re my Angel. Then I gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek and took off to my next class. I didn’t get to call Rose that night because by the time I had gotten off work it was after nine at night and I didn’t want to make Rose’s parents mad by calling so late. Especially since I still hadn’t met them yet! Besides calling someone after nine at night was kind of my parent’s rule as well. They would always say, If it isn’t life threatening you can wait until the next day! I just figured I would see Rose in school tomorrow, but during the night a bad snow and ice storm set in so we didn’t have school the next day. Everything was closed down, but living in the mountains we expected things like that to happen anyway! I waited to call Rose until nine thirty and just as I was going to call, the phone rang! It was my job calling to see if I could come in early because they needed some extra help. Since school was closed I told them that I would be down as soon as I could get there. I hung up the phone then called Rose, but her phone just kept ringing! Then I called one of my older brothers and asked him for a ride to go to work. I arrived at work an hour later, but didn’t get a break until two thirty in the afternoon. I tried to call Rose again, but there still wasn’t any answer. I took my lunch break and went back to work. I thought about Rose while I was working and wondered what she was doing on her day off. I figured that unlike my family, Rose’s family lives right above their hometown, so she might have gone with her sisters into town for the day.

I worked until five thirty and then my parents came and picked me up from work. By the time I got home it was just after six thirty.

I tried calling Rose again and this time Donna answered the phone. I said Hello, I tried calling a couple of times earlier, but no one answered.

Sorry about that, she said. We went down into town about eight this morning so there wasn’t anyone home all day.

Oh, well I guess that explains the phone just going ring, ring. She laughed then I asked, Is Rose there with you so I can talk with her for little bit while my mom makes dinner?

Oh I’m sorry Jimmy; she’s still down in town. I think she’s spending the night at our grandmother’s house, but I’ll tell her that you called.

Just a little disappointed I said, I’m not sure if I have to work tomorrow or not, I just guess it depends on the weather, but I really hope it clears up though so we can go back to school!

I know what you mean, she said, it’s just so boring and there’s nothing to do because of the weather!

I mentioned to Donna how I felt about her sister and she giggled a little then said, Rose had said something about you too!

We talked a little while longer and then we hung up.

The storm lasted on and off for almost two very long weeks Rose and I talked a few times on the phone, but it was just for a few minutes. Since the only way I could talk to her was during my breaks at work, and those two weeks just seemed like they were never going to end.

Finally it quit snowing enough so things started opening back up and we went back to school. I had asked Rose at school if she had talked to her parents about me coming over.

She said, I did, and my mom said it would probably be best if you come over on a weekend. Things are busy during the week so that would probably be best.

I shuffled my feet a little on the ground then looked at her and asked, If I came over this weekend do you think it would be ok?

Rose got a big smile on her face and said, I guess that would be ok! I smiled and heard someone walking by mentioning the student basketball upcoming game with the teachers. So I brought it up to Rose, "My teacher had mentioned that the school is making two basketball teams. It’s going to be students against teachers and I was thinking of trying out for the team.

Normally I wouldn’t, but since it is students against the teachers, it sounds like a lot of fun!"

My teacher also mentioned something about it, she said, and I was thinking about being a cheerleader for the game, but I wanted to talk to Donna about it first before trying out!

I smiled, Rose I think you would be a really good cheerleader Rose smiled and her face lit up, Really, do you really think so Jimmy?

Nope, I don’t think so, I know so, and you’re already one you just don’t know it yet!

The bell rang, so I gave her a hug and then we headed out to our next classes. The rest of the week just seemed to fly by and before I knew it the weekend was here!

I asked my dad on Saturday morning over breakfast if he knew about how far it was to Jeffersonville. Why do you need to know that? he asked as my mom poured him a cup of coffee. I’m going to go meet Rose’s parents today, I said as I got up from the table to go put on my boots. He thought for a moment then said, Well it’s at least an hour by car that I remember. You know, I haven’t been that way in a very long time so I’m not exactly sure. I have an appointment I can’t miss, but I do know how to get there. I can drop you off with your bike just a little outside of town so you won’t have to ride too far! We loaded my bike in the back of my dad’s truck and left the house. He dropped me off with my bike about ten miles from town.

It took a little over an hour to get there, but I finally did. I wasn’t too sure how to get to Rose’s house. I was doing pretty well until I couldn’t find her street so I asked a store clerk if he knew Rose’s family. He said, he did and gave me directions to their house then I thanked him and headed off to Rose’s parents place.

Rose lived about a quarter of a mile from town so it wasn’t too bad. I rode up to Rose’s house to meet her parents, but her parents weren’t home! As I put the bike off to the side of the driveway Rose came out and said hello and then asked,

Why are you on your bike, I figured your parents would bring you out?

My dad dropped me off outside of town and I rode in the rest of the way in, I said! Donna came to the door and said, Hello then asked if I was tired? Actually I feel pretty good, I said as I took my Walkman off and put it into my pocket! Rose invited me into the living room and offered me something to drink. Then the three of us sat and talked for a couple of hours. Rose asked, Jimmy how are you going to get home later?

I looked at her and said, I’m just going to ride my bike it shouldn’t be too bad!

Isn’t that a long way she asked?

Well, my dad gave me an idea but he wasn’t sure exactly how far it was.

Donna stood up and said, Let’s go down into town for a while. So we did. We stopped at their grandmother’s house. I was introduced to their grandmother and one of their uncles. By the time we left downtown and got back to the house it was seven thirty. Rose’s parents still weren’t home so I stayed until eight thirty. Her parents still weren’t home so I said, I think I’m going to get going since I’m not sure how far or how long it’s going to take me to get home and since it’s going on nine if your parents come home at nine and I’m still here I don’t want you to get in trouble.

Rose and Donna walked me to the door and told me to be careful. I said, I would and gave Rose a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

I told Rose I would call tomorrow after work then put my headphones on, found a good station and took off for home.

I left Rose’s house at eight forty five and had my Walkman with me so it made the ride a little easier. Since I had never been out this way before all of the roads were new to me. Finding my way through the mountain roads and all of the small towns was an experience since I was riding in the dark. I had a little light from the moon and a little reflection from the snow on the ground, so it made the roads easier to see. By the time I got home it was two a.m. I had measured out how far it was to Rose’s house from my dad’s place. It came to thirty seven and a half miles one way over four mountains. I was exhausted when I got in and flopped down on my pillow then just before I closed my eyes I said, Goodnight Angel.

I got off of work the next day at five and called Rose’s house. Her little sister said she was at the store with her parents. I asked her to let Rose know I called and I would see her in school tomorrow. She said she would let Rose know. Then I hung up the phone and went upstairs, and listened to some music. Every song just seemed to have some kind of meaning to our relationship. I sat and thought and still could not fully understand the feelings I was having for Rose. All I knew for sure is that she wasn’t like any other girl. I thought, Rose is so special and one of a kind. I guess old cupid must have snuck in while we weren’t looking and this must be love that I feel! Not knowing what love really is, or if this is how you really feel still left me feeling even more confused. In a way, I guess I was hopelessly lost in something I didn’t know anything about. Yet at the same time it really didn’t matter. The only thing that does matter is Rose and whatever we feel for each other is all I need!

    Chapter Two

    Cupid’s Twist

Tryouts for the student’s basketball team were during lunch on Monday. I had written Rose a letter in study hall and passed it on to Donna to give to Rose that night. I told her in the letter that I had practice for two more days during lunch and that I was also scheduled until nine at night at work for the rest of the week, so I probably wouldn’t be able to talk to her until the weekend. I gave the letter to Donna and she asked about practice. I told her the same as I had written to Rose in the letter. It was two thirty when I gave Donna the letter and everyone was going home. I asked her to tell Rose about my crazy schedule and that I was sorry, but hopefully I would talk to her this coming weekend if she was going to be home on Sunday. The rest of the week went as planned and I got to talk to Rose on the phone on Sunday.

I called Rose’s house at eleven thirty on Sunday morning and Donna answered the phone. We talked for a minute, and then Donna gave the phone to Rose. She asked, Are you going to come over today to meet my parents?

I’d like too, I said, but I was scheduled to work this afternoon. If you’re going to be home next Saturday I can request to have it off.

Ok, hold on for a minute, she said, let me go ask my parents I’ll be right back! She got back on the phone about a minute later and said, I’ll be home on Saturday afternoon.

Great, I’ll ask when I go in today to have it off and I’ll do my best and make it a point to be there!

What time do you have to be at work today she asked?

I need to leave here by twelve thirty to be on time, I said, but not really looking forward to it.

Ok then I better let you go so you can get ready for work!

I agreed and said, That’s probably a good idea so I’m not late.We hung up the phone and I got ready then left for work.

My boss wasn’t in when I got there so I figured I would ask after school tomorrow about having Saturday off.

I went to school the next day and then left for work right after I got out. When I got in my schedule was already up and I was scheduled to work on Saturday. I talked to my boss and told him I had something very important to do on Saturday afternoon, but I’ll work on Sunday to make it up! He said that would be fine with him and rescheduled me for Sunday. I wrote Rose a letter letting her know that I would be over on Saturday and if I had a chance I would call her before then. I didn’t get a chance to call, or even write another letter for the rest of the week. I had practice during lunch, homework during study hall and then straight to work every day after school. All in all it put in for a long very week!

I didn’t get up until eight on Saturday morning and decided to wait until nine to call Rose.

I had gotten something to eat and got ready to leave and gave Rose a call. Her brother answered the phone and I asked him to let Rose know I was on my way and would see her in a few hours. He told me he would let her know and then I hung up the phone and I headed out.

I figured I wouldn’t get there until about three, but I got lucky and got out to Rose’s house just after one. There was a good sized man outside when I rode up on my bike and since I hadn’t met any of Rose’s family before except for her and Donna I wasn’t sure if this man outside was Rose’s dad or not. I introduced myself and He said, I’m Rose’s father, nice to meet you! Rose is inside, you and I will talk a little later! I walked up to the door and Rose and Donna were coming outside.

Rose looked at me, smiled and said, I’m surprised you’re here already!

Yeah I know it seemed to take forever to get home the last time that I was out here. I guess since now that I know the way it isn’t too bad I said as I walked my bike around the front walk.

Rose invited me in and we sat down and talked for a while on the couch and watched music videos on MTV. The new sensation of MTV, just about a year old was something to sit and watch what was going on. No matter what we seemed to talk about we always found ourselves looking back at the tube. The music artist we had been listening to on the radio all had music videos and you couldn’t help but to watch! It got to be about five in the afternoon and Rose’s mom and dad asked if I would like to stay for dinner. At first I was going to say no, but then realized it probably wouldn’t be good to say no so I smiled and I said, Sure!

Rose’s family didn’t treat me like I was just some boy dating their daughter. They treated me like a part of the family. Rose’s younger brother and little sister came in just as we sat down to eat so I got to meet the whole family.

Rose and I were sitting on the couch talking after dinner when Rose’s mom sat in a chair across from us. She looked at me and asked, Jimmy, what are your intentions with our daughter?

I hadn’t ever been put on the spot before like this so I looked at her and said, I like Rose a lot and I like it when we spend time together!

Is that it, is there anything else? she asked as to be looking for something else.

Other than that I would like to go to the movies and take her out from time to time, skating As far as I have anything else in mind yes, that’s it!

She nodded her head in approval, That sounds ok, but if you want to take Rose to the movies and things like that, you will have to talk to her father!

Rose’s dad had gone outside so I went out to talk with him.

He was over by the car when I walked outside so I walked over to where he was and asked him if it would be ok if I took Rose to the movies sometime. He looked at me for a moment then said, First I want to know a little more about you and your family!

Ok, what would you like to know sir?

First, where do your parents live and what are they like?

They’re hard working and honest people and we live in a town called Wurtsboro. Well actually, that’s the nearest town. We live about twelve miles out of town on County Road fifty six!

Then he asked, If you were to take my daughter out, do you have a car?

No sir not yet, but I do work after school every day so I’m trying to save up for when I get my license later this year in October!

Well then how do you plan to take Rose anywhere without a car? he asked.

    "I can ask my parents
