About this ebook
Wendy Cooke
I was born in 1937 in Surrey, England and spent the first 10 years of my childhood in a little village. After schooling in Wimbledon I was trained as a Stenographer and worked for a number of large companies. My ambitions were to be a portrait painter and someday, a writer. The inspiration for this book came from one of my grandsons, Andrew, who had this toy rabbit to which he was very attached but lost quite frequently. I now live in Brittany and enjoy gardening, keeping chickens, cooking, painting, writing poetry and short stories.

Chapter 1
Leaving Day
Bits is a little stuffed toy rabbit belonging to Andrew. Andrew is a five-year-old boy who has been the proud owner of Bits since he was a baby. Bits goes everywhere with Andrew (well, not quite everywhere as you will see) and loves Andrew very much. Now and again Andrew is so busy he sometimes forgets Bits and leaves him in some very strange places, strange, that is, for Bits. This is the story of one of those times when poor Bits got left behind when Andrew went on holiday to the seaside with his mummy and daddy.

It all started early one sunny summer’s day. Daddy packed up the car while mummy got the breakfast ready and chased Andrew to get dressed and to remember all he needed to pack in his backpack. Mummy scrabbled about putting last minute things into bags as daddy had put all the cases into the car. Andrew wanted to take some toys to play with on the journey including his Game Boy, some books to read, colouring pencils and some paper on which to draw. He also took a pack of sweeties and an apple for the journey. He grabbed his backpack and his Game Boy and Bits and jumped into the back of the car. Mummy appeared at the front door of the house and called to Andrew. Did you go to the toilet?
No, I don’t need to,
replied Andrew. I think it would be a good idea if you tried,
said mummy. It is going to be a long journey and we may not be stopping for a long while.
Oh, OK,
said Andrew as he jumped out of the car and ran into the house. Unfortunately, just as he opened the car door to get out, Bits fell out onto the driveway. When he returned Andrew got in at the other side of the car and was unaware that poor Bits was lying on the path. Mummy finally shut the front door of the house, climbed in beside daddy and off they went. Andrew settled down to his Game Boy and took some sweets from his backpack. Mummy put on some music and she and daddy chatted. What followed was a pretty uneventful and really rather pleasant journey.
The guesthouse was right near the beach and the landlady welcomed the family very warmly. Andrew was keen to see where his bedroom was so they climbed
