Foreword
I had the distinct pleasure of discovering the poetic styling’s of Mr. Steve McKee back in 2012. It was with no small amount of trepidation that I ventured into an online forum dedicated to both readers and writers of poetry. These poets wanted to share their thoughts and to read the thoughts of others, receive feedback from their peers and, in general, mingle with other people who understand what it is like to need poetry in your life. To my great joy, I found myself surrounded (cyberly speaking, of course) by a world full of like-minded poets. Steve McKee was one such writer.
Mr. McKee’s words stood out to me immediately. His gentle deliverance of various topics, along with his free flowing form, offers a balm that can calm the mind and lift the soul. I delved into his numerous poems with fervor and found a kindred spirit. From humor to sadness, from wizened lessons to spiritual mentoring…Steve’s poetry spoke to me in a way that few others have. Within the shared thoughts of this wonderful human being I have found moments of peace, self-speculation and much wisdom. He has brought to me numerous smiles and even a few gut-clutching laughs. Steve McKee’s poetry transcends the idea of traditional poetry. He speaks and writes from his heart and in so doing…captures the hearts of his readers. As many poets do, Steve sees the world through his own eyes…and then shares his vision in words. However, his viewing and sharing has the ability to uplift and to make others reflect internally on a deeper level.
In 2012, I had the immense pleasure of working with Steve (along with fellow poet and mutual friend, Nick Hayward) on another publication of the heart, Poetic Synergy. Our combined efforts led to not only a book that I am extremely proud to have been part of, but also to a deep and abiding friendship. I truly believe that God places you in the presence of certain people and circumstances at just the right time of life when you need them most. Mr. McKee is an invaluable friend and mentor. I thank God for using our mutual love of poetry to ensure that I was in the right time and place to benefit from such a person; from such a God given talent as he.
In the following pages, you will find yourself on a journey through the mind of a wonderful modern day poet. I hope that you find his
