Author

Patti Trickett

Since retirement, Patti Trickett and her husband have pursued their favourite pastime of walking and sightseeing in England and abroad, particularly on the beautiful island of Crete and bought their pretty villa in the foothills of the Psiloritis Mountains. Living in their villa for six months of the year, they walked in the mountains and villages, explored the beautiful gorges and visited many historical sites, as well as helping their Cretan friends to plant and harvest crops and cut grapes on the sunny slopes in the N.W. region. They have enjoyed so many unique experiences the average tourist never sees. This is a happy, light-hearted book which makes you smile!

    DEDICATION:

To our four grandchildren, with love.

MY NURSERY RHYME FRIENDS IN GOBBLE-DE-GOOK.

    BY: PATTI TRICKETT

Spinning on a sixpence, a pocket full of rhyme.

The Queen of Hearts, she burnt the tarts –

    And asked the reason WHY?

She sent a Maid of Honour to make some sense of it all,

But when she got there, Humpty Dumpty had fallen off the wall.

The White Rabbit and Alice were sent for, to see what could be done.

The little Brown Mouse ran up the clock, as the clock struck one.

‘Oh! My Ears and Whiskers –

I’m late, I’m late, I’m late’, the frightened Rabbit declared,

And as he hopped through the garden gate,

All the Playing Cards were scared.

‘There is no point going to Mary’s garden’

    Alice called after him -

With her Silver Bells and Cockle Shells,

All her Maids in a Row are quite dim.

As well as being contrary – Mary wouldn’t solve the riddle

You may as well go to the Man in the Moon,

And ask him to play on his fiddle.

Jack and Jill came down the hill, to see what WAS the matter,

Jack fell down, and broke his crown

And Jill saw The Old Mad Hatter.

‘Pon my soul’ The Hatter cried

‘If it isn’t my old friend Jack,

‘Yes, tis I’ Jack said, as he rubbed his head,

‘How are you, my friend in The Hat?’

Old King Cole isn’t a Merry Old Soul -

when the Queen burnt the tarts today,

The Queen gave permission to give them The Duchess,

But she threw them all away.

‘Oh! What trouble – I do declare’

Said pretty Little Bo Peep –

The King and Queen made much less fuss,

    When I mislaid my sheep.

The wise old owl was summoned,

To see what could be done.

The King and Queen and soldiers were there,

    In fact- almost every one.

The wise old owl listened carefully,

As he slowly weighed up the score.

    ‘I do declare your Majesty,

YOU’LL HAVE TO MAKE SOME MORE!’
