It is one of the biggest, most exciting events on the social calendar, with a history dating back to the 18th century.
From the regal procession to the chilled champagne, picnics and fine dining, Royal Ascot is much more than a flutter on a fast filly. And, of course, the spectacle of high fashion and fabulous frocks is another important factor.
But this year, the annual feast of racing is being held behind closed doors, so while there will be action on the racecourse, the public – including the royal family – have to stay away.
