Dedication
I have to dedicate this story to anyone feeling like they’re in a helpless situation. I don’t want you to ever lose faith. God is testing your integrity and monitoring your movement. Also, I want to pay homage to lost themselves trying to hold me back. You’ve inspired me to be above average. I wouldn’t be anything without my strong spiritual upbringing, Greater Ebenezer.
Prisons and the poverty stricken communities overflowing with talent and skills. If you can make it in Detroit you can survive anything. I love my city.
Chapter 1
TAKING BLESSINGS FOR GRANTED
Lisa and I were on our way to Ohio on I-75, we were leaving ‘The D’. The sheriffs got behind us fifteen minutes after crossing the Ohio stateline. The officer didn’t approach my side(the driver’s door). He went to the passenger door. Lisa rolled down the window. The officer asked, where are you guys going
? Lisa said, home
. The officer said, where is home?
Lisa provided him with an address located in a suburb outside of Dayton. Then the officer asked if the car was registered to me. Lisa answered for me, no, it’s a rental
. The officer requested the rental agreement and a valid drivers license. I ‘third partied’ my license to him, through Lisa. She put it in his hand along with the rental agreement she retrieved from the glove box. The officer accepted the documents and went to the squad car to put our information through the computer.
When the officer came back to Lisa’s window, he was sniffing inside of the car. He then asked me, have you ever been to jail before
? I said, yes
. The officer got sharp, ‘’what for? I responded,
which time? The officer said,
have you ever been arrested on I-75 before? I replied,
what did the screen say? The officer had his head in the window so far, Lisa had to ask him to step back because she needed to flick her cigarette butt out the window. He said,
gimme a second guys?’’ The officer was going back to his squad car. Something was fishy.
The clock read 12:07 AM, and we were pulled over on Interstate 75. When I noticed the clock, I said it’s Valentine’s Day. We linked-in to each other and kissed passionately, considering the current situation, it was intense. We were startled by a German shepherd and a completely different officer. He circled the car twice with the dog. On the second time around, the dog jumped up and put his paws on the window. I think the officer coerced the dog to see if I would react. I was still talking to Lisa, I wasn’t giving the police no energy. He said we were speeding, but didn’t give us a ticket or warning. That could’ve been true, if I didn’t drive with the cruise control on, religiously. After the confrontation Lisa said, they thought they were getting a car with some shit in it, but they were wrong
. She looked at me for confirmation, but I let her imagination wander for a second. Then I broke the silence, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I grabbed her hand and held it. I had been ‘goin’ for a few days without sleep. I was swerving on the road, and another police officer stopped us about 35 miles down the interstate. We got ‘whooped’ twice in one night. We ran with the sleepy story, and he bought it. He told us to get some coffee and followed us to the gas station. I can’t say he was cool, but he wasn’t an ass hole.
At the exact same time, Lil Cuz was being booked and processed at the Franklin County Jail. His girl had gotten him locked up again. Or he got himself himmed up on a humble(fluke accident)… This time Candy had fought some girl and the police got contacted. They both went downtown on Valentine’s Day. I had to move his belongings, including a safe, with Lord knows what inside. The only person who knew exactly what was in it, was Lil Cuz. Lisa and I took the safe and we ended up in another city by Dayton.
I didn’t know where Lisa and my relationship was going, but I knew I wanted her around. I just didn’t know how to do it. I still had a lot of shadows tailing me. I just hoped to figure it out before I got caught. Life was moving too fast. I was getting sloppy. I came back from Tennessee with dried up sperm inside my boxers. I changed clothes and left without knowing. A chick I knew set up a business arrangement for me. She agreed cause she wanted to see me. But I wanted to deal the deal to go through. I needed to ‘pro up’(earn profit). She tried to strong-arm mef for sex before making the call. I spun her off and got her settled with giving me oral. She was content. I had an opening for dark shadows to travel home with me. I wasn’t completely over all my shadows. I thought about money and survival most of the time. Lisa and I got over that mountain and I flew straight. I had association without physical contact. I always had an excuse to why I couldn’t be there. I lost interest in random sex partners.
Lisa and I are living in Michigan now. She was coming closer to Giorgio, her son, in Toledo. And I was coming closer to my son near Detroit. We had good intentions from the beginning. By the time we got to Michigan, Lisa’s son was on his way to California. My son’s mother didn’t know I was moving to Michigan with my girlfriend. Things didn’t work out for me either, so, I had to improvise. I got right back to business. The devil has his way to pull you back into the shadows. All types of lanes were available that wasn’t there before. The plug was spoiling me. Of course, I took advantage. Leaving Lisa and her daughters in Michigan by themselves was a ‘hoe ass’ move on my part. I measured her adaptability up to mine. She told me that she was a warrior. I was used to starting over and being by myself, from traveling from prison to prison and state to state. It was all the same, in my eyes new territory to manipulate.
I hadn’t dealt with too many females with children. I haven’t had many relationships. I was always fucking something up and keeping it moving like a tornado. I never thought I’d do good inside another person’s program unless it was paying me enough. So I would remove myself from the equation. I didn’t know how to be a man. How could I when the shadow of rebellion still clung to me? I didn’t know what a woman needed, especially not one with children. I was still chasing a street dream, I didn’t take into consideration that Lisa was having a difficult time adjusting. I could’ve reinvested in my home instead of having multiple rents due and luxury expenses of being on the road. Lisa had already demonstrated a certain level of loyalty. I was blind to the fact of what was going on. I was losing myself to the streets and the shadows all over again.
