    As blood flowed in my veins, my birthday was framed by fate.

    As the Gods gave me life, I lived but a short time within my mother’s arms, a momentary comfort before her heart stopped and her body began to cool.

    I had departed from her womb only to arrive at a room of confused voices. As the light blinded me, all that was being shouted all around was that she was not going to make it! Being pulled from her arms, I gasped out a cry. But the cries that surrounded and filled the room were not only mine.

    There were many faces even in dark places. I sought comfort again in another’s arms, and there I yearned. Wrapping me in comfort, there I knew I belonged. That night was full of thundering storms, which was not the norm. All that were around shuddered and wondered on their blunders.

    Grandma sighed while looking down at me but didn’t feel defeat, taking hold, rubbing, warming, and holding my feet. From that day, she took hold and protected me, clearing and guiding my path every step of the way. This was the task she took on that day.
